0-6 0-6 loss at the 3rd doubles spot. i really need to practice some more. This team was the monster of our conference, but still, we shouldn't have been double bageled.

Any tips on hitting the ball deeper?

Hit through the ball more. Work on extending the racquet before wrapping around in your followthrough.

extend out through the ball instead of just brushing it. alot of players have this problem and compensate for it by moonballing. if you extend out through it, you should get a nice driving, deep forehand.

I think this is my exact problem. I have a looped backswing, but my follow through is short. So work on extension? And should I not hesitate on swinging fast? I've found that when I swing slower, it feels less powered and less spin. i use SW grip

Swinging fast is not too much of a factor, in terms of depth alone. You could swing slowly, and the ball could end up deep, if you do a lob-type stroke. Of course, the ball would go rather slowly, without much pace.

When I was a sophomore in high school I played a guy on his way to Stanford. I won one game. Whammy. Happens :-|

I did break his serve, however. Holler!

If you can win one game against a guy going to Stanford (to their tennis team right?), that's one more game than I would've won.

Just blame your partner.

Most guys in high school try to hit too flat, with not enough margin for error. Hitting 3-6 feet over the net (not 1-2) will allow your shots to hit deeper and more consistently.

Depth is an odd problem in dubs. When are you hitting short and how is this hurting you? Is it on returns?

Short dipper shots can work great to the right spots.
Don't hit too many groundstroke rallys, just chip and get to the net when you can.

good point...... just get 2 players to the net

I prefer the 2-up formation myself, despite my poor volleys.

It puts a lot of extra pressure on the opposition. They'll shank a lot more knowing that two people are up there going for the kill instead of just one.

Are you sure you lost just because you (and your partner) weren't getting the ball deep enough? Just asking...

In doubles if I see this score it's usually because:

a) Serving was weak

and/or

b) Vollying was weak

I've never been double bageled before <knocks on wood> but if it happened in a doubles match something has to be wrong with 'a' and 'b' above.

Cool, i'll try to do well in my watch tomorrow.

Yea, my goal is to hit with topspin. A lot of players just get effed up by it and the flat ball isn't really needed at times.

Yea, but when I did hit deeper, it put pressure on them from back there. It's one of my main problems.

No, that's not the only problem. These guys were very good players at a 3rd doubles spot. This team is the powerhouse of our conference, they're a dynasty. Hitting deep is one of my main problems.

Today however, we had an informal practice, and I was hitting with my ntour opposed to my rdx and the serve head speed felt faster. I thought I was hitting better today. I'll warmup with both racquets before my match to see which feels best.

I think you've kind of answered your own question here.

If they were simply a much better team than you guys then it's not really very surprising.
