Hi

Just got a video of me hitting groundstrokes this afternoon. Nothing fancy just hitting around for fun. Partner was ex ATP Professional who played 20 years ago and now plays once a week. When I hit again I will try to get some volleys, serves and matchplay :)

This is my first video on here so please dont flame me to hell LOL...not really looking for any in depth coaching as I have a coach but any comments on rating or some tips are very welcome.

Prob best if you put the video on full screen as its really small....

Here we go:

Cheers!

Very nice strokes, Nick. I've been waiting for a video of your game for some time now. Your backhand is amazing, it looks even better than your forehand! :)

I did notice that your left arm doesn't really extend across your body on the forehand side, but seriously, great strokes!

Damn, nice looking game... Something about your strokes seems a bit mechanical, but there's nothing wrong with that when it works as well as it seems to with you! The 1hbh is nice to watch.

Do you, did you, or will you be playing college tennis? Next time your out would you take a few from behind (propping up a tennis bag then placing the camera on the bag with a towel on it so it won't move works, or tying it to the fence)? You get a clearer picture of the shots, the opponent, etc.

Nick: I DO love that BH. Really nice and really smooth. I use a 2 hander and I'm always jealous when I see a stroke like yours.

Where are you hitting? It looks, and sounds, like you're in a Mall with all the noise and people walking by. :)

I wont be playing college tennis...im in the UK so not really many options. I am trying to play more tournaments and want to play some high level doubles if I can (like challenger tournaments).

Will try to get some better vids..

The club I coach at...david lloyds in the UK. There are 10 indoor courts...was really buisy today! The club is massive with over 6000 members so lots of noise!

Thats the centre court where people can watch so always people talking...plus the cam is crap!

pretty backhand.

I was going to comment on how far you are standing behind the baseline, but then I notice that your hitting partner is not, exactly, giving you much space to come forward due to the depth and pace of the shots.

My hitting partner in the video is a 6.0 player....when he was 18-25 he played div 1 college tennis. His shots hit the line most of the time and are very heavy / hard to handle.

Its good to see a video of someone actually cracking the ball.

Looks like your partner was getting good depth but you hung in there.

Good job.

Nice snappy strokes. Lovely 1HBH (better than mine; I was off today.!?)

Keep playing with that ex-ATP hitting partner. I keep hitting with people who are worse than me, and I play down to their level.

Sounds like he was in college for 8 years! :)

Seems like the space from the baseline to the curtain or back wall is small.

I also noticed the lack of shoulder turn on the forehands. Other than that, the footwork between shots looked good.

I meant to say he played college tennis then turned pro...:)

Thanks for the comments..

Nice video. Obvious problems to me is that your footwork-technique- needs improving. It seems to be all over the place on your forehand. But the backhand it seems fine.

Thanks mate!...hows the tennis going?

Will say hi....we have a Nat League match this sunday away.

Sweet one hander, no doubt. You look a touch flat footed when you hit your forehands. I'd like to see your feet move with the transfer of weight.

Also a bit of zoom on the video would have helped. Nice ground game though.

Cheers...will note all this stuff and try to work on it.

Just trying to help.:) You can notice this on your video if you watch closely. Notice on the backhand it seems to be a much more consistent motion, your stance and swing is pretty consistent, on the forehand though your footwork and technique seems different each time. Another tip is try playing on your toes more, lift your feet-heel- a little more, you seem a little flat footed. Study connors footwork.

I know what you mean about the forehand footwork storm I feel a little slow on that side when playing. The camera I used was just a regular 12MP photo camera not a vid cam...the zoom is really bad!

I'm a S and V player so need to get my volleys up!

No I know you were and are!

I get what your saying 100%....I def feel/look a little sluggish on the forehand.

Nick, awesome strokes!

What amazes me is the massive speed you generate when going thru the contact zone on the FH. Very sweet.

The one hander is awesome as well.

Your strokes have solid mechanics.

Nicely done, and thanks for sharing with all of us.

You should try to hook up with Moz from the boards. He is from England as well. I believe he is playing a tourney in Spain right now.

Very nice nick esp your backhand, with your power and the opponents power i understand how you can break strings in a few hours!!

If only i could have a partner that plays just like that:)

Looks cool! The neat thing about it is that there doesn't appear to be a window or anything blocking the people so there probably is a lot of noise.

Great strokes by the way. Is your backhand your better and/or favorite shot? It looks great. I was going to comment earlier about your forehand follow-through too. Looks kinda like a Yevgeny Kafelnikov forehand. :) I think he kept his a little more stiff on the backswing but the follow through reminds me of his and other Russian players.

Good stuff.

Yeah no nothing...thats why people get hit all the time walking past!...once I hit some woman smack in the back of the head with a mishit LOL.

Thanks...my forehand is more consistent than my backhand but I hit quite a few winners/passing shots on the backhand side. I'm proud you compared my follow-through to Kafelnikov...ive got the fischer to match!

Thanks again.

I didn't even think about the Fischers. LOL I liked the older Fischers like you have so much better than the new ones.

David LLoyd have great facilities, i go to the one in manchester!

Yeah I think the place is great...with free membership for coaching what more could I ask for? lol.

The only problem I have is those courts are way too fast and all play differently. The points end really quick and its all serving..
