This champion college girl really wields a K90. How amazing :)

She's one of the girls specifically cited in the OP of the "tennis girls are fat" thread. She's cute for somebody so thick though.

I watched her on cable (not sure if it was Tennis Channel of one of the Fox Sports College channels I get on Comcast) play in the Pac-10 championship. She appears to play very well.

She's not fat. She is really short, but if she was rail-thin, she would have absolutely no power. And it would be hard to play #1 for the best college team if you didn't pack a punch.

I've been at the NCAA tournament this week. I'd say that about half of all the women in the tournament use either a Pure Drive or the Wilson nTour Two. For the guys, it's the kFactor 6.1 or Pure Drive.

Since so many players use the same racquet, what are some of the more interesting racquets you saw? I know that Marc Spijaric (sp?) from Illinois uses a POG OS.

UCLA women won the national title 4-0 over Cal. I guess her K90 works.

That's not even really a good pic of her above. She looks much better in person:)

Interesting game- she is very short but still hits a 1HBH and comes to the net a lot. I think at the pro level her success will be in doubles.

Her father played Davis cup for the Philippines.

and about the majority of those with KFactor 6.1 don't play with a real K-factor

One girl was using a Volkl Tour 9 V-Engine, and Baylor's #1 player was using a Wilson H6 MP.

Also, I think the UCLA women's team must be sponsored by Wilson, as every player on their team uses one.

Isn't Pete Sampras' sister the head coach at UCLA? That's quite a Wilson connection. Not that UCLA couldn't be sponsored by Wilson anyway.

She is definitely more attractive in person. Took my daughter to the tennis center to watch them play Denver in the regionals. I didn't realize that was the 90 she was playing with- I assumed it was the 95. I guess I wasn't focusing on the racquet- that's probably because she is "phat" and not fat. All puns aside, she really looks like a great kid with a promising future in tennis or beyond.

I think she does have a promising future in pro doubles- she is very active and her instinct is to play attacking tennis. Actually, the Bruins dubs were all pretty impressive- lots of australian and I formation, solid serve & net play too. I think I read that they were the only team to take the doubles point from Florida this year.

After watching that clip, she is very good. I don't think anyone on these boards could beat her, but maybe I'm wrong.

You can't possibly believe that, because you don't know every single poster. There are at least a few posters here on TW, that I know of, who could at least give her a beat down.

Sydney Jim is the only one I can remember but there is a bloke whose handle is something like 'serveitup???' (can't remember the last bit) who plays Division 1 for Furman.

That said, I reckon the number of posters who could genuinely beat her wouldn't be enough to fill a phone booth. Unlike 99.999% of us, she's a genuine talent - as are a great number of the girls playing division 1 tennis (especially at schools like UCLA).

Well, I know a WTA player personally, and I could beat her. Now this UCLA girl here is an elite player, but still she is not a pro (yet?). ...Not talking down on this girl, but just adding to the prior post -- there are pretty good people here (touring pros and advanced open level players).

I'm sure there are more than 10 or so. I met a guy who played practice matches with her like two years ago, a very tall, 40'ish, 5.5 player with a huge serve, and he beat her 8-6 once (her dad suggested no tie-breaker), and 6-2 the next time they played a set (he said his forehand was working that day). She's probably much better now, but just gives you an idea. I think the key is his huge serve, and he's 6'2 or 6'3, it's just a shot she regularly sees. I'm sure he was holding back, probably really going for his serves when he needed to. In a ground stroke game, or during rallies, I would give her the edge against this guy.

I always wonder how the top women college players will do professionally. I've had the chance to watch quite a few of them, including the highly-ranked Northwestern team. I do know that last year's NCAA singles champ, Audra Cohen, turned pro and is now ranked in the 200/300s. There are, I think, only three repeat singles winners: Amber Liu (ranked 200/300s), Laura Granville, and Lisa Raymond. None are household names, although Lisa Raymond has certainly made a name for herself in doubles. And these were the SINGLES champions. I guess college tennis, for women who want to play professionally, is kind of a booby prize. Just like the NBA. If you're that good, you don't go to college.

Riza is very solid. Saw her play at Ojai last year and this year in both doubles and singles. All-around player. When she comes in during her singles matches.. she has great touch. And as for the fat part, she is mostly muscle and she seems to have toned up a lot from last year.

Its inspiring to see a woman tennis player use a small headsize player stick. instead of those huge 105 inch fu**ing tweener frames like the williams sisters and pretty much every other OVA out there.

It's cool to see her use a mid size frame. But man, I wonder if she's limiting herself in the pace department. ...not saying she has no pace, but just speaking in general terms. I find that women greatly benefit from getting free power (efficiency) from the more powerful frames.

I guess if she can dominate with her current k90, then why mess with it.

Can someone here please describe the kind of FH she hits. Also her serve (speed, placement, spin, aces, winners etc.) Just curious as to how this girl uses her weapon.

Thanks.

Ditto with everything you've said.
