New string combo - ALU Rough mains and NXT Tour 18 Crosses...
The specs in my signiture...

What are the drawbacks to this?

I can see durability is my main concern with NXT Tour 18... (not a durable string at all)

What else though?

This is my version of Wilson Ultimate Duo (Alu Power + 16G NXT Tour)

Your going to break it in less than 2 minutes. <--Exaggerating..

But that may be the only problem. Other than that, it'll play great. Oh, and money problems?

ok possible future choices -

Alu rough mains and BB ace 18 crosses

Alu rough mains and titan gut crosses 15L

Weisscannon SS mains and titan gut crosses 15L

TiMO 17/18 mains and titan gut crosses

what are comments and experiences?


Also what are the benefits of hybrid strings (poly + syn/nat.gut) rather than full bed of poly??

It sounds like a decent combo. Durability shouldn't be an issue if you use some string savers around the hitting zone.

I'd string the mains at 45-50 and crosses at 50.

Control and spin comes from tighter tensions.
Lower tensions give you more pop, depth, and ... yeah...

I've used ALU Rough 16/NXT 17. It really suprised me with the durability, although the ALU went dead in a few hours. It is pretty pricey but it is some of the best playability you can get. If you can afford to resting often and pay $15 i'd do it.
