I can't say enough about this program. Changed my life.
A little bit about my tennis game and history on starting the program...
So I played division I college tennis. I was the guy on the team that didn't look like I fit....because I was not fit. I was built like a linebacker not a tennis player. But I had a big game and was tall enough to get away with poor fitness (I could cover the court).
Since college I have got a "real" job, got married, and have 3 kids. Take on, at one point, an additional 80+ pounds and my tennis game was laughable. It was best described as one hard smack on the ball followed by either a winner for me or watching the ball come back past me. I was also having tons of injuries.
So I shifted and became a doubles player on a local USTA men's team. That was fun and we did great. We got all the way to Nationals in 2007! But over the course of a few years there I was battling terrible injuries to my hamstrings, chest, and shoulder. I was always hurting in some way. Then at States in July 2007 I pulled my chest something terrible. But we were in a pinch and we had to finish strong. I could not raise the racket over my head for the most part...some how we got through. We won there and I went into physical therapy before sectionals. I got it back to about 80% for that tournament in about 6 weeks. We made it through there, but I again hurt it in the last match which was a key match. I don't know how we did it, but we won that match after facing match points in a 3rd set tie-breaker.
It was great, but my chest was toast again...but we had time before nationals. So back to therapy and aggressively started running to melt some weight. I got some weight off which was good, and got the Chest in much better shape. I did do a nice minor pull at Nationals on the chest, but I could play through it, just had to take it easy. We gave it a great run in Arizona but did not win.
It was an awesome experience....and became a big one for me. It told me that doing little to nothing was not okay anymore. Tennis was not enough exercise alone...especially doubles. My diet was terrible, etc. It was time for a change.
I started the X this last summer and lost about 40lbs and got a lot stronger and more fit! I am in the best shape of my adult life. Probably in better shape than I was in college. I have not bulked, this program is designed to rip and bulk only if you desire. It is a really nice total body workout that does everything from strength training, flexibility, and plyometrics. The last is so good for tennis players! I can't say enough how much faster that first step has improved. I am covering more court, lasting through matches, and loving singles again. I like others on here have got several other people I know doing this and feeling better. Basically 80% of our USTA team is doing it in the off season and we are looking forward to a repeat nationals run in 2009...hopefully!
If you have questions give me a buzz. I will be clear that I am a beachbody coach, but not as my living. I do it because its fun and I enjoy be a born again fitness guy. I think there is a lot of good programs and exercise programs out there. At the end of the day the best thing you can do is whatever you will stick with. My only piece of advice is pick something that is total body and incorporates multiple components so that you get things like strength, flexibility, cardio, etc. There is no magic pill, berry, or exercise chair that will get you in shape. It is all about eating right and exercising 5-6 days a week.
Enjoy and holler if you have questions.
