Also, what happened to the signing of the season this afternoon?

The signing of the season? Who might that be?

The real signing of the summer will come tomorrow. Just you wait, tomorrow in the evening we're going to see a real shocker, I guarantee it. It's not going to be Robinho, Quaresma, or any of the usual suspects. It's going to be someone else, and it's going to be big. Just you wait....Anyone have any ideas what it's going to be? All deadline days have one or two massive shockers, right?

Hmm, who you thinking?

I think Berbatov will go to Man Utd and that will be the only real major activity. There will be plenty of buys as usual but I think that will be the only big money story.

I think United will end up with someone, but it won't be Berbs. IMO, Spurs are acting all high and mighty because they think he's valued at 30Million+. I don't think he's worth more than 22-25Million, and Levy is a complete moron and will realize it when Berbs uses up all that money and sits and sulks on the bench and in the reserves. United will get him at a cut rate price come January. Chelsea will probably end up with Robinho (but I feel they've got something else on the cards too, but who knows, Kenyon is in Madrid focusing on Robinho). I think the real shocker will be whomever Aresnal sign. I know they've got some U-21 French kid all lined up (where have we seen this before ), but that kid is a striker. Arsenal don't really need to play much defense when they're on form (look at how they played against Newcastle, the ball barely went into their own half!), but against Fulham their defense was lacking, and they got rid of another defender following that match, and their new signing Silvestre is still out of form and injured. I bet it's an experienced defender, but who could that be?

Interesting take!

I think Man Utd will get an out and out striker like Berbatov but as you say, it could have to wait until January to get him so they might pick someone else up but I can't think what other options they have.

Robinho is tricky, he may have to wait another year. The only other player I could see us getting is Fabiano but there would have to be alot of negotiations i'd of thought to bring someone like him in so I think that might be a bit late.

As for Arsenal.. they may try one last time to get Alonso. Scolari said today that they tried to get Kalou earlier in the summer but I think he's pretty happy at Chelsea, especially now Drogba is staying. Also, now we've sold SWP and with Robinho looking 50/50 we need to keep all our wide players.

Holy sh*t, what a day this has been so far, and we've got another 8 hours!

Here are some of the more persistent rumors out there:

~Karim Benzema to Manchester United
~Klass-Jan Huntelaar to Manchester United
~Michael Owen to Liverpool
~Alan Smith to Evreton
~Fraizer Campell to Hull City

I'll continue to update these here boards whenever I hear something good! If anyone hears something good, post it here!

Well, it has gone absolutely mad here in the UK with Man City sudddenly flush with loot (a new takeover or something) and making a bid for Berbatov in excess of 30 million quid, which Tottenham have accepted. Though the last I heard was despite Man C hoping he'll be in discussions with them very shortly, he is actually now chatting with Man U and Ferguson in person... un-beeping-believable!

I've never known such a huge amount of last minute transfer transactions but there's a mammoth list relating to the Premier league including, off the to of my head:
. Verluka and Pavylychenko to Spurs
. Saha to Everton, Finnan to Espanyol
. Xisco to Newcastle

WAIT A MINUTE... HOLD THE FRONT PAGE!...

NEWS FLASH...

According to Sky Sports, Real Madrid apparently on the verge of offering 36 and a half million quid for Berbatov!!...

WTF!!!...

WATCH THIS SPACE!...

I didn't even know we had so much money .

After getting Wright-Phillips (who performed brilliantly, by the way), I thought that would be the last bit of spending on City's part. I doubt City will actually get Berbatov with those bigger name clubs after him but still this is a big surprise that we're even in the discussion.

Well, according to multiple sources, City's new owner has lodged OFFICIAL BIDS FOR MARIO GOMEZ AND DAVID VILLA!

Another update (Ross, you're going to like this): the TV stations here in Mexico are going absolutely nuts with the news that Spurs have signed Gio Dos Santos' little brother from Barcelona. They're showing some his highlight reels on the major sports channels over here. I get the feeling that this kid can play

YET ANOTHER UPDATE (only 4 seconds later, I know!) REAL MADRID HAVE NOT LODGED AN OFFICIAL BID FOR SPURS STRIKER DIMITAR BERBATOV

If City get Berba i might actually cry.....nearly as gutting as Liverpool stealing Torres from us. Although Berba seems like he could just as easily decide he wants to leave united for spain one day....he's got that sort of attitude.

You've also just apparently made bids for David Villa at Valencia and Stuttgart's Mario Gomez... insane!... surely it's just a Q of time before you're bidding for Robinho?!... Flippin' heck, looks like Man City have arrived with the the very big boys so to speak, at least financially anyway?

BTW everyone,

If Spurs do sell Berbatov for 30 million-plus, I bloody hope and expect we purchase a striker!... actually, they could buy 2 or 3 for that!... TBH, I've been waiting for Ramos to use his home-country connections (a la Benitez) and bring in some useful Spanish players... anyway, there's only 6 hours or so to go before 'the window' closes... (I don't know about anyone else but I'm loving all this frenetic activity and madness! :))

Don't know what to make of all this, too much speculation. I'm keeping my hopes very very low just so there's no disappointment when we don't actually get any of these guys.

Very wise policy... although I believe City have actually made concrete bids (Berba, Villa and the German player), so at least their intent is beyond mere speculation anyway.

Yup, all three have been confirmed by the Club as official bids. City have actually accepted said Berbatov bid. Hughes is talking to him now as we speak, even though he was spotted speaking to Fergie a few hours ago, according to the BBC and SKY Sports.

Yeah, I bet by the end of the day they'll have spent over 100 Million and have a bigger squad than the rest of the premier league combined :). They've signed like 4 players already right?

Another update: Last thing I heard was Berbs was indeed over at OT having a medical. Funny thing is, Spurs have agreed to a fee with City, not United. Wonder what'll happen...

Just heard a rumour of purest, unadulterated evil... Spurs to make a late bid for a player for whom the phrase 'flatters to deceive' springs to mind instantly upon hearing his name... Emile Heskey...

NOOOO!... GOD!.... PLEAAAAASE, NO!... That might just about finish me off, I swear...

I mean, can you possibly imagine it?... if I recall rightly, he scored four f****** goals last season... FOUR??!!...

Please God this is just a foul piece of misinformation put out by those awful Woolwich Arsenal fans...

He's been at Carrington all this time having the medical, he arrived at OT not long ago.

Now all I want is for Roman to buy C. Ronaldo and sell him to Barcelona at a cut rate price just to show Real how pissed off this move has made us. That would take some of the sting of ManCity signing Robinho away. If Robinho does sign with City, I will be extraordinarily pissed off. Are they trying to be jackasses and hijack everyone's moves? Or does this new owner just not know how much of a b*tch karma can be? Anyway, where would Robinho even fit into City's line up?

Ross K

Right. That's me done. Time to drag myself away from all this... my only concern being I'll wake up tomorrow and just won't believe the signings that have taken place in the final hour of the transfer window... Robinho to Man C?... Berbatov to Man u?... Heskey to Spurs? (NOOOO!!!)... and what of Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea?... Well, we'll see.

I'm listening to Ramon Calderon now, and Robinho is definetively done with ManCity. 42 million euros is good money. We lose Robinho and we don't buy a thing, I don't have words...

Good money? You've got an amazing deal!

I thought the price was only stupidly high because teams always inflate the prices when Chelsea inquire, but to get another club inquiring and then paying an even HIGHER price, you should be delighted!

As for Chelsea, it's a bit worrying we're left with only Kalou, Cole and Malouda to play wide. We also got rid of strikers and haven't brought in replacements.

We have Drogba (who's injured 3/4 of the time anyway) Anelka (who is actually hopeless) and Di Santo the young kid.

I'd take 2nd in the league and automatic Champions League qualification right now, especially with Man Utd getting the missing piece of their jigsaw.

Good morning fellow TTFC squad members,

Well, it's all over and Chelsea didn't get Robinho (big surprise for me) or anyone for that matter. Arshavin stayed put at Zenit. Barton and Smith has remained at Newcastle. Owen didn't go to Everton. Wenger wouldn't open his wallet to buy a cup of tea! And - thank God - Heskey hasn't joined Spurs (the word 'halleluya' springs to mind!)

The most shocking late-night transfer deal indeed occurred with Robinho going for silly amounts of money to Man City. I must say it strikes me as being a little not quite right, what with the player's expressed desire to be at Chelsea and their protracted talks with Madrid in trying to get him - and then suddenly, overnight, City are one of the very richest teams in the whole world...

Anyhow, Bulgaria's answer to Andy Garcia, a certain Dimitar Berbatov managed to get himself kidnapped by Alex Ferguson and got driven off to Old Trafford, where he duly signed on the dotted line (although I believe the manner of this and the fact Spurs never even gave Man U permission to talk to Berba may lead to some form of sanctioning.)

And further a-field, the very highly thought of Quaresma went to Inter.

So... any interesting deals (that's both good or bad) completed yesterday by your side?... are you feeling frustrated/confused/very pleased with who you've brought in (or let go)?... and how about teams from Serie A, La Liga, the Bundesleague, South America, etc?... do let us know your thoughts and feelings here at TTFC!

Speaking for myself and my team (Tottenham), rather like alonsin said earlier in reference to Real Madrid, I feel p***** off that we've received a massive fortune for 2 proven Premier League players and yet have only brought in only 1 (unproven) like-for-like player in Pavylyuchenko (and a year's loan of Frasier Cambell doesn't add up to very much IMO.) I won't bore you all with my other thoughts on how we haven't actually got a proper 'spine', and my disappointment with letting certain players go (like Malbranque), I just feel Spurs have raked in an unbelievable sum of money and haven't bought commensurately at all.

More lunacy in the Premiership...

Kevin Keegan, aka 'King Kev', has apparently been sacked (or has he walked?) out of the manager's position at Newcastle Utd...

26012008_kevin-keegan_fa_cup.jpg

It's a shame, a big shame, for the amazingly passionate Newcastle fans, because Mike Ashley, the chairman, comes across as a right wanker who pretends he's Newcastle through and through (wearing the shirt at matches and gets 'accidentally' spotted by the cameras drinking pints of lager... how contrived can you get?), whilst really being very London-centric (he's tried to buy London teams, doesn't live in Newcastle, etc.)

Whatever. Newcastle Utd has immense and passionate support and deserves way, way better than the bumbling, unpalatable carry on that's been the situation on Tyneside for too long now.

BTW, If Dennis Wise (who has a senior position already within the club) is made manager/coach , to quote a song title... 'I predict a riot'!

BTW2, IMO the man they should go for is a man who in management terms reminds me of a more sophisticated version of the younger Kevin Keegan... Didier Duchamps...

I heard on the news he left because he wasn't getting any say in transfers, eg that guy going to aston villa (forgotten his name).

Also I read in the scotsman that Ashley downed that beer in 15 seconds and got in trouble because no alcoholic beverages are allowed in emirates while facing the pitch. He tried to claim that a friend gave him it and said it was non alcoholic - arsenal then confirmed that they don't sell non-alcoholic beer in the stadium

Yeah, no Keegan sacking yet.

Not to change the conversation or anything, but after hearing City's new owner speak today I firmly believe that there needs to be a limit to transfer activity, in terms of finances and whatnot. Word on the street is that he plans on making a 137 Million Pound bid to Manchester United for Christiano Ronaldo. IMHO, that's taking it a bit too far. I guess he wants to turn City into a massive club, and then turn around and sell for a massive profit. The problem is, if you invest so much and make the club worth so much, how the hell are you going to sell it, and to who?

Also, it seems that this guy has zero understanding of football, and team sports. Looking at who he was targeting: Henry, Villa, Gomez, Torres. How would all of those players fit into the same team? It seems to me that this guy has no real intention of developing the team, just buying big name players. Hopefully, Hughes gets control of the funds and makes his own team, with his buys, not the owner's team with the owner's buys. Ambromovic did it the right way, (for the most part) by letting the manager do what he wants, and only asking for success, which eventually came along. Somehow, I don't think that the owner gets that. He'll buy all the players, and force Hughes to make them champions. However, football doesn't work like that. Hughes will be sacked next summer, you heard it here first.

UPDATE: Look what I found: http://www.goal.com/en/articolo.aspx?contenutoid=846455

City the biggest club in the world by January? :laughter: What a moron. To be a big club, you need trophies, not players. Hell, Nottinghamn Forest have won more important trophies than City, as have Villa. The biggest club? Try the biggest mistake!

Is he serious? City have history, yeah, of winning the Championship. Bringing only the best players for outlandish sums is only going to make matters worse. Look at what happened to Schevchenko. Ambromovic thought he was the best striker in the world, so he bought him. He didn't play Chelsea's style, and thus didn't play. He sat on the bench.
