I,ve been reading up on this new facility they are building in Madrid it is fantastic. I remember the director stating that the tourney was going to be an event like never seen before. Also considering that it is a clay court masters in Spain, this might be the biggest tourney outside of the 4 majors. Let me know what you guys think

oh yea forgot to mention the model ball girls:)

It's a masters series event. Grand Slams don't even compare to anything else.

As a combined event with ATP and WTA, unlike Hamburg formerly in week 19, it certainly will be a big deal. They have the prize money, and ATP with WTA are all jacked up about it with major schedule accommodations and a suit with Hamburg. It will be Nadal's home tournament, right?

For now though, it is a 56 draw tournament taking place over one week. Indian Wells and Miami, by contrast, are 96 draw, comnbined men and women, and two week long events, all Masters 1000 level regardless. So IW and Miami are closer to what you are trying to equate with a slam (128 draw)...still a step down in a number of ways.

All good points i agree, yet it seems like a tournament thats going to have alot of success and grow fast. I mean la Caja Magica is going to have 3 convertable courts, that itself is amazing, not to mention what you said about it being nadals home tournament, also there are alot of festivities in spain in the month of may, who doesnt want to be in Spain in may?

It's stupid that the ATP tour wants to slow down all of the courts, so they decide to just do away with the fast surface of Madrid and replace it with clay. Shortening the indoor season in favor of extending the clay season is a dumb idea.

Wow - the director thinks that his event will be really, really, really great?

Really surprising and should be stressed as a worthwhile claim.

Well considering what he has done in Madrid in such a short time span, i say he should be taken seriously

It will be a very important title no doubt, on par with Maimi, but not really any more important then any MS title. The slams are untouchable, the way it should IMO.

Do you really know the calendar for this season? There are still 3 Masters on clay and 6 Masters on hardcourts. The only difference is that the new Masters in Shanghai will be an outdoor event so Paris will be the only indoor Masters.
