Your Pre-Match meal, what is it and why eat it?

Hey just wondering what everyone eats pre-match.

For me it's always a cold cut turkey sandwich, some pretzels (or other baked chip), and a yogurt about an hour before match.

what's yours?

Anything that is not meat, very low in suger, is relatively low in fiber, relatively low sodium, and has nothing to do with milk. What pasta is a good example of a perfect pre-match meal for me.

I also make sure not to eat anything within 1.5-2 hours before an important match that isn't a banana or similar.

When I am playing a not-so-important match, I find that the time between eating and playing is more important than what I actually eat.

I also gulp water and avoid drinks full of sugar before playing, except for some Gatorade or somthing similar 20-30 minutes just before hitting the courts.

Pasta, Water, and Cytomax (Tropical Fruit). Although if I don't have enough time for Pasta, I'll eat either a Powerbar or Cliff bar. If I run out of Cytomax, I'll drink G2.

Generic school lunch 1 hour before tennis.

Let's see, what's our school's schedule?
Monday: Nachos, Bean+Cheese OR Pizza
Tuesday: Fried Chicken+Mashed Potatoes OR some variant of a taco
Wednesday: [Fake] Fried Noodles+Orange Chicken
Thursday: One of whatever was offered on Tuesday or Wednesday
Friday: Pizza

And I just can't lay my finger on why I feel like a sloth the moment I hit the courts.

But, didn't we ALL love High school? Huh? No?

I usually don't really care, as long as I'm not struggling to walk after I eat.
I just try not to eat RIGHT before.

My family tends to make a lot of pasta anyways. so i guess I'll go with that.

Whatever I can find. This includes sweets, fruits, veggies, cereal, meat, pasta; basically anything that my mom hasn't put back in the fridge or in the cupboards and is just lying out on the kitchen counter. Sometimes when I chilled with my doubles partner before HS matches, we'd sit around for hours before playing, and listen to old rock'n'roll albums (The Dark Side of the Moon is my personal favorite) and eat our brains out.

something decent no closer than 3 hours beforehand, anything else doesn't empty fully and just diverts blood to the stomach..i'll have a gel/water/etc 15minutes before and as needed during...

If I am playing the match at my home club, I run over to Micky D's and grab myself two McChickens and Hi-C. That will make you serve some bombs.

More like serve your toilet some bombs.

I don't know why, but I absolutely can't tolerate anything from Macs. I always feel sick to my guts afterwards

Ah yes. The best four years of your life! The time when it's all about meal plans and eating as much dorm food as you can. Can't wait to see if I can defy the Freshman 15.

...That is, assuming I can set my schedule to let me have some free time to play tennis. That is, assuming I can even get a hitting partner in the first place. I'll know where I'm going March 15 ;)

I've eaten at UCLA, they have some pretty good food. Healthy, I'm not sure; good? Better than the junk I'm eating right now.

Nutrition (other than topping off your glycogen stores) is of no particular value for a single match (as influenced by a single meal).

Fluid and electrolyte levels will be of a lot more value than calories.
