see, tennis can be played like this...we need to clone this guy (a healthy version) and get multiples of him, and her if ms. hopkins will allow, and spread them throughout the two tours for diversity

I agree with Marc; I caught a bit of his match with Fed and I thought he played really well; I especially liked the way he came in with such a low slice. Let's hope he stays injury free for the rest of the year. I think he could really climb the rankings again.

I love seeing him on tour. Great personality, refreshing game and approach to the net...love it. Good luck TD.

I too enjoyed the playing style. Unfortunately Federer stated in his interview that he enjoyed playing AGAINST this style. That's not good news. He also said this was the style he faced often when he first came on tour.

Yeah, but the Fed is one of the only few players on tour that have played Sampras. Outside of the Fed--not many on tour at the top have seen this. I'm not saying TD will rise to the top--but he can give a lot of people fits if he stays healthy.

Actually Hewitt has played sampras many times since he was 17 years old. Hewitt and dent has played each other multiple times as well.

excellent point, he provides a great contrast...one can only hope that somwhere at all the teaching acadamies some coaches are teaching some young players this style of play

It would be nice to see some Tim Mayotte/Edberg/Rafter types come along again...

Its definitely fun watching this style of play but he needs to lose about ten pounds if he wants to remain competitive during his comeback. Fed was absolutely toying with him in the second set.

u can argue he is not the best S&V.

but baseliners have been beating S&Vers recently. Stepanek, Dent, Lopez can be considered serve and volleyers, but their results are so so. Stepanek at least has a better result, but nowhere to beat the top 10 players.

Too bad pure S&V is a gone case in the pro level. The slower court, the higher bouncing ball, the poly strings have sucked them dry.... almost.

I think the next generation of S&V players that are successful are the ones that have a balanced ground game as well. A lot of the past S&V greats had a big forehand, or good speed or one weapon. Today, you need a solid forehand & BACKHAND, so that you can stay in the rallies until you get the opening to charge the net. A pressing all court game would probably be a better definition than a S&V player. Just my 2 cents.

I think you've just described Jo-Wilfried Tsonga. :)

Yep, I agree, we should clone this guy so I can tile my bathroom floor with his teeth.

let's face it, no matter how good the match-ups of the top four have been, they are all playing power baseline tennis for the most part...yes they have the ability to mix it up, but not really provide a stark contrast...i was truly excited to see this.....people may have forgot how good the sampras-agassi and mcenroe-borg match-ups were (and tsonga has the ability, but still too much baseline in his game for my taste...would love to see him be the guy that does provide the most stylistic difference though)
