Congrats to Madison Keys

You beat me to it - lol.

Yes - congrats.

I feel of the girls in her group - vickery, duval, and keys - she
is actually the only kid with any weapons.

What are your thoughts?

I'm thinking because she is actually training thru everts and not the usta development.

That is a great group of young ladies. I have seen them all play numerous times. I agree that Madison appears to have the weapons, her shots have had that special pop to them even when she was 9. She also has a strategic mind for tennis. I hope all three girls have great futures, they are all very nice kids.

this is a huge win for madison. congrats to her and her family for this win. i think that this is the same girl who beat sharapova at wimbledon last year, right? if so then this win is even bigger. Does anyone know if she has turned pro?

Yes, Alla beat Sharapova in the 2nd round at Wimbleton and then said she didn't like Maria very much! Apparently they played Fed Cup together and didn't get along.

And this was Madison's pro debut I believe.

Sounds like the match was closer than the score would indicate too:

Definately, we all know that a few key points can make or break a set.

Madison is a big hope for US tennis. She just might have that rare combination of talent, good size, work ethic, and a strategic tennis mind that makes for a successful pro player.

Lets see what the next few years brings but so far so good.

We get it Brad....Kozlov is lucky, Carlos Boluda isn't much, neither is Tomic. Madison Keys who has won the Orange Bowl, the Herr, beaten the 81st player in the world and played tough vs the 10th ranked world player got lucky.....every single big match she has ever won. The 415th ranked boy who beat your kid also got lucky.

The tennis world according to Brad is a fun place!!

How do you know it was a lucky outing? How do you know
that they were having a bad day? Did you talk to them?
Were you at the match? She averaged 101mph on her
serve... Was that luck?

The tennis world is a place where development is a process that "no one" can tell the end results except for Tennis Florida and TEnniscrazed ,,when your looking at kids that are 10-14 you see some that are being built for the future some that will be known as great juniors you just can never tell, i think out of all the girls in the USA i think this girl is being built right ,she unfortunately is probably the USA best hope she's pretty solid i watched her "in PERSON" so i can give a "fair critique" of her and she is good. BTW didn't the younger Tomic destroy Boluda at the Ausi open 0 an 3 according to some standards here that means Boluda has no potential. ONE Question to TCF and Tenniscrazed have you ever seen that DB kid play in person??

who is DB? your son? how is he relevant to the conversation? has he beaten a top 100 atp player?

and i'd agree with tenniscrazed and tcf, she seems to be the real deal. how many other girls that age can take out a top 100 player? this isn't like some youtube video where we're all guessing how good the player will be, we have results bro.

those 2 would understand the question ,,I agree as i said i think she is solid ,,is she the real deal after "one" win?? i wouldn't get ahead of myself or to excited time will tell in this marathon! it was and inside joke about how one players a guarantee and another isn't, we all where rose colored glasses! LOL,l Overall i hope she does well and makes it on the tour don't want her at any d2 college.I met her at Everet she was a very pleasant girl we talked for a while she was raised right.

who's getting ahead? unless i can't read, no one said she's gonna be #1 in the world. the thread is titled "congratulations..." it was meant to highlight the big win she had. yes it was "one" win, though i don't know why that has to be quoted. so she takes out a top pro player, we say good job, and you get mad...why again?

not mad I just said she's a "pleasant girl" ''she's probably the USA best bet" , ""hope she does well"" ,""enjoyed talking to her"", ""watched her in person thought she was good"" ,HMMM where do you want me to stop, Oh yah the """best part""" she was raised right!! now please help me to understand how this is interpreted as mad!! genius lololololol BTW i never said anything about no.1 either

ok, then i guess you didnt say this, "its to early even though shes had a lucky outing. And no dout these other players were just having a bad day."

it wasnt lucky. she won. her opponent wasn't injured. petrova even said she was tough.

Correct, you judge on a track record...Orange Bowl, Herr, seeing her hit vs Evert and the pros who Evert has visit at Boca, beating the 81st player, playing tough vs # 10, the opinions of Lansdorp and others who have watched her play.

That is not luck, it is a track record of success.

Why do we let BB contaminate every thread and every post. No matter what is the thread about, he always brings his son into it and sucks all life out of a thread.

How did we get from "congrats to Madison Keys" to having another useless and silly argument about the same stupid subject.

True, I have no idea how a thread about the first American 14 year old to beat a top 100 player in a long time somehow gets bogged down in nonsense.

Anyway, best of luck to Madison.

Sadly, you are so correct. There are many people on this board that have significant, very productive inputs. Many of those people have noticeably disappeared.

Regrets

Ouch.... man, that one hurt. If only "GENIUS" were spelled correctly, I might take it as an intelligent thought. And legos doesn't have an apostrophe, they don't own anything.

Probably not.

Just messing with you ,on a the real side Madison is a nice player and overall probably our best hope in the USA ,she has had a great upbringing or she just a solid person when i talked to her she was very polite something you don't see to often in juniors today , she's gonna have "size" it looks like and when i watched her she seems to have a nice work ethic and fight on the court ,keep your eye on her i think she will do well with the right management.

I heard she is having a lot of hip pain associated with a growth spurt. They want her to take some time to get through it.

She is already 5'10" at 14.....wonder how tall she will end up.

I have seen Keys play and yes she has decent ground strokes and at this age has been able to win from sheer power. But there is only one way to beat Keys, it is to drop shot, drop shot, and drop shot. She cannot move up and back. The most important shot to have in girl's tennis is the drop shot since most girls have extreme difficulty moving up and back and to add to their lack of mobility most girls do not have a solid net game so even if they do reach the ball it is easy to flip the ball right over their backhand shoulder.

Madison Keys wont do much, she isnt that great. Melanie Oudin only female American doing anything under 25. Coco Vandweghe also a stiff.

Congratulations to her. I guess the only way of knowing the future is to let it play itself out. I think the biggest thing for Keys will be to try and minimize injuries. That hip issue can turn into something that won't go away. Hopefully she will be able to work that out. Time will tell.........

Revisit...?

Watching her in the AO on ESPN2 just advanced to the third round. I was wondering what Wilson racket she is using. Before her rackets all looked like 95s (KFactor, BLX, and PSBLX team). It's hard to tell if she has one of the Blades or some blacked out racket. Any ideas...?

Madison looked like the real deal tonight. Only 17. Hit 119 mph is her last service game. Big forehand. Took out 30 seed 2 and 1. Big match coming up agnst Kerber. Guys/Gals: we have a young American to talk about on this Board.

I told you so!....just kidding!
Keys is the real deal. She reached QF in Sydney, Apia AO warmup tourn. just last week. She won Safarova and Zheng Jie before meeting Li Na there. Took Li Na to 3rd set.

With her AO second round win tonight, she probably breaks into or getting close to top 100 WTA.

Remember, she beat Serena 3 years ago at 14. No real surprise here, the kid can play.

From what I read that actually slowed her progress down 'cause all the attention and publicity she'd got. We can discuss her here and hope she (and her camp) do not follow the board.

Disclaimer: I am not related to her at all.

I seriously doubt a serious contender or her team are posting on ttw.

I'm gonna watch her latest match on replay now.

I saw her a few years ago in Atlanta play a final against Irina Falconi. Keys played just awfully that day.

I am so impressed with what I see now.

She looks an awful lot like Alexandra Stevenson to me (minus the curly hair).

Keys was under Evert care when she beat Serena and USTA the last 2 years. Neither of those two entities would let a win get to her head. And, she's a great kid with a solid work ethic.

I saw her interview yesterday with the ESPN crew....very smart, articulate young lady. I like her, she has so much upstart to go a long way. Her size and game (she has an awesome serve!!) will give her an edge over the likes of Stephens, Vandeweigh, Quidin and McHale...just to name a few.
