Djoker lost points in Rome when he got destroyed in the finals by a sub-par Nadal who obviously was tired after 3 weeks of non-stop tennis.

Murray deserves his no.3 position.

atleast he made it to the final and I wouldn't exactly say destroyed. The first set was close. Anyways, agree with you about your second statement. Murray does deserve the no.3 position.

I just find the ranking system very dumb then. Murray has been playing better than Djokovic this year IMO but he should not become the worlds number 3 player just because Djokovic loses a match, it should be because Murray wins a match.

Murray also did well during the second half the year, winning to ms and getting to the final of a slam.

Ya but he still got his highest ranking because of the loss of a Djokovic. A loss is a loss. If Nadal loses a match, does that mean Federer should get the number 1 ranking?

Well actually he lost 400 because he got 600 for second.
This ranking system is messed up.

He got 600 last week and lost 1000 this week. He actually lost 750 since he got 250 for Serbia Open title this week.

Yes they messed it up badly this year with doubling the points, changing proportions for final, SF, QF, ... points and different schedule.

It is not dumb. It reflects player's success in the last 52 weeks, not only the last week.

Poor attempt to troll yet another thread. Should be ignored.

Why don't you try learning about the points system before you post this nonsense.
You seem to think that there is some element of opinion in the rankings. There is not. It is entirely based on results and is the fairest ranking system in sports.

It could happen if Federer was close in points, why not? When you lose matches you had won the year before you lose points, that's how the system works.

There will be quite a few odd adjustments this year because of the change in the points system and the movement of some tournaments on the calendar. While the points system is an accurate reflection of the last 52 weeks, the year end rankings will be the most accurate because the 'old points' from the previous point structure will be gone and everyone will be on a more even playing field. So yes, Murray is the number three player for now, but the top four might look a little bit different after Wimbledon and again after the USO and the year end championships.

Just ride it out for a while, it doesnt really change the slams anyway - we know who the top seed is, and who the bottom seed is. 3 and 4 are always randomly drawn so it almost doesn't matter who occupies those two slots in which order.

Lol who cares. Look at the difference of point between Murray and Djokovic. Soon enough Djokovic will be no.3 again, nothing to really worry about.

Who cares if murray is no. 3? Nobody cares about him, hes a brit tosser.

He can go suck a chode.

You seem to care enough to post on a thread about him.

Do you always use people's ethnicity/nationality as a vehicle for abuse? What a classy guy you are.

If Novak and Murray match each other @ Madrid then the gap rises to 370. If the same happens at RG then the gap rises to 1120.

I think it is strange that Djoker is being punished for not being able to repeat his amazing start to last year. No-one would. It has been snatched from Nole as much as Murray has earned it.

You think it's strange that Novak should lose his number 3 spot because Murray has more ranking points than him over these last 52 weeks?

So using your logic, if Murray doesn't defend his USO/Cincy/Madrid points later in the year and Novak regains the number 3 slot on the back of that, then it will have been snatched from Murray? Have I got that right?

I'd say so yeah. I'm only saying this because Djokovic has had a good year so far. It seems strange that someone who has had such a good start should drop in the rankings. It was also strange that he made the final in Rome, Murray lost first round, and they switched places.

Dude, get your head round the fact that the rankings are done over 52 weeks. Once you've done that, nothing seems strange.

Novak has had a good year so far, but Murray's has been better.

Both have 2 titles Djokovic went further in the Australian and Djoker has been more consistant in Master Series I wouldn't say Murray has had the better start.

Murray had a better HC season than Novak, but Novak is clearly a superior clay player, so I think Novak can regain his #3 ranking if he performes well in Madrid and RG.

Wimbeldon will be interesting. I wish Novak and Murray can really challenge Fed and Nadal this year on grass.

Actually, Novak won 3270 pts so far this year, while Murray won 2990 pts. On the other hand, Novak played two more events.

Murray has 3 titles, one of them a masters shield. There have been 4 MS events to date; Murray has won 1, made 1 other final, one other semi and an R2 exit. Novak has made a quarter a semi and two finals - losing both. So Murray has been to as many MS finals as Novak and as many semis as Novak - but Murray has actually won one. Novak is 34-10 Murray is 30-4.

If you really think Novak has had the better year to date then you are beyond hope.

Novak has made three Masters finals. Miami, MC and Rome.

Their 2009 results are pretty even so far. Murray is #3 since he has been better in the second half of 2008. Novak has been better in the first half of 2008 but those points are off the books now and that is why Murray is currently #3.

You're right - happy to stand corrected on that gj - still don't think that means Novak has had the better year to date though; although tjhat could change by the time RG finishes.

Let's put it into numbers, so they can actually see it by themselves.

Murray
Win: 1000 pts
Final: 600 pts
SF: 360 pts
R2: 10 pts

1000+600+360+10= 1970 points

Djokovic:

Final: 600 pts
Final: 600 pts
SF: 360 pts
QF: 180 pts

600+600+360+180= 1740 points

Who performed better at Master Series events this year?

Murray.

I have sold you a pup by stating Novak only made 2 finals - Novak has 10 points more - so just about as even as it can be in terms of MS points, although I still maintain that murray's win tips the balance in his favour on MS events to date - but that's just an opinion.

Some numbers:

Murray had 1 win, 1 final, 1 SF and one R32 exit.

Djokovic had one QF, and three finals.

Murray:
Win: 1000 pts
Final: 600 pts
SF: 360 pts
R32: 10 pts

1000+600+360+10 = 1970 pts

Djokovic
Final: 600 pts
Final: 600 pts
Final: 600 pts
QF: 180 pts

600+600+600+180= 1980 pts.

Who performed better?

Djokovic... by 10 pts. Exactly those R32 points.
