Yes, but you might recall that Federer did play very well in that FO final (2007). He had 17 break points and only managed to convert 1. Roger basically blew his chance that year of winning the FO. Let's hope he'll have another crack at the title though....

Let's recall that Nadal was mentally exhausted for that match.

He was trying to capitulate his clay-court streak to his doubles buddy, Lleyton, in the semis, but Hewitt could not capitalize. It was very clear that Nadal phoned it in when Federer got the break in the 2nd.

Anyway, it's better to look at the 2008 FO final, when both players brought out their best stuff, and evaluate the result.

nadal was tired and tanked the match. That's pretty much how fed won. Heck that's how all of nadal's opponents win against him.

unbelievable! If someone had told me before that he had that many bp chances against nadal on clay, I wouldn't have believed them. Ofcourse, fed's bp conversion rate is really bad.

I forgot you never bashed Nadal for a minute...
Nadal won M-C, Barcelona and Rome that year and he looked out of sorts all week in Hamburg. Obviously shouldn't be used as an excuse anyway.
I hope the Fed fans will remember that when they claim that in 2006 in the first round of Cincinnati, teenager Murray didn't really outplay Federer to get his win but that Fed was just exhausted from his previous tournaments.

Everyone's BP's conversion is bad against Rafa on clay. It's a testament to Fed's ability that he was even able to get that many.

not true, atleast for me anyways. I hate using the tired excuse and that goes for any player, including my favorite player.

That is certainly commendable.

Interesting match. Further proof that Roger likes to win matches in dominant blowout fashion, but has a harder time winning the close ones.

Yup, that was his chance at winning the FO....., back when his FH was what it was, and his BH was more than decent. Now Nadal is a real monster on clay, specially at Roland Garros. Cant see anyone beatin him unless something unusual happens. Sorry Fed fans, no FO for Federer.

He is one of the most difficult players to put away, this is true.

OMG this was hilarious! Thanks for posting, it made my day.

lol. Glad I made someone's day. I wish scenerio 1 happened, but that's nearly impossible and just wishful thinking on my part. I could see scenerio 2 happening and scenerio 3, but would never wish injury on anyone. Scenerio 4 just cracks me up.

Scenario 3 and 4 both made me cry with laughter! I really enjoy the humorous articles on that site. They're refreshing.

wow!!...Look at Federers reaction at the end of the match. Now imagine if he won the FO!!

I don't know about his reaction, but I'm pretty sure this site will crash with the amount out of posters who would be on it, either celebrating or bashing. Too bad it won't happen.

even tho it was a old vid and not the whole match this vid is where fed won against nadal 2-6 6-2 6-0
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NFLc2HUvF4s

but as we all know nadal still claimed the king of clay at the fo that year.

Don't be so shocked. Nadal has been thrashed in a final before when he was totally exhausted, eg 6-0 6-1 v Mikhail Youzhny. No one read anything into those matches except that Nadal was totally exhausted.
