Living in America is great if you can have enough money to lead a relatively leisurely life, playing tennis, etc. The weather sucks in Sweden, especially for tennis players, but there are certainly aspects of your society that are far more civilized than ours. Don't get sick without health insurance here.

I've been to Sweden multiple times, and you don't have anything approaching the level of poverty and crime that we have here. There's no question that being rich in the US is probably better than being rich in Sweden, but what about the other 80% of the population?

Anyway, glad you had a good time.

i understand u perfectly!

i moved here from another country 5 years ago. Still i thank God for that decision i took. Even w a bad economy this is an awesome country to live, not to mention if you like to play tennis and live in S. Florida like me. I play a lot! everywhere, and i have seen all the pros hitting from just 8 feet away at local tourn. in Miami: Fed, Nadal, Henin, Venus etc.

If u do not have strong things attaching u there, make the move! plan it first of course. There is always an opportunity of how to start again here. I respect what the other person said, but people who struggle too much here i believe is cause they just do not do anything at all to help themselves!

You are very young, u can do it, just organize it and plan it.

Thanx dman and oldracquet...
Yeah i guess i only saw the good side of life when i was there...but still, everything felt so familiar in a way,yet un-familiar. It was just magical.
Yeah the weather here is just depressing...It is July and its been raining for 4 days...

Southern-Florida really sounds good...
Is there lots of teaching-positions (tennis of course) available in USA?

Wow, if you are missing the USA in the summer, you are in for a rough winter! Florida is a tennis hot bed, you'd likely have no trouble finding a job here. I could go for a little cool weather right now, what are the temps in Sweden currently?

Thanks but government health care is not for the majority of working Americans. I support capitalism and recognize that this is the best place in the world to live.

Why does every Rush Limbaugh fan think that people who bring up the issue of universal health care and poverty don't have jobs?

I'm a 35 year old guy who owns his own home, has a kid, and has a family income that is 3 times the national medium (although I live where cost of living is twice what it is in other places). I have insurance coverage through my own job and my wifes, which is about as good a coverage as you can get. That doesn't mean that I'm blind enough to look past the problems we have here. Not that your response really warranted even that much of my time, I'm guessing you're a kid with a big mouth.....

Anyway, back to the original poster:

The weather in Florida is good for playing tennis all year round, although You might only want to play at night during the summer because the heat and humidity are pretty rough. I have friends from Sweden, and they had a rough time with the summer in New York, 90 F and high dew point. It's like that in Florida half the year.

Really nice to hear you liked it here. It's actually quite sad that there are some usa haters right inside our own country (dman72). I thank God I was born in this country and was provided will enormous opportunity to achieve success (personally and econimically).

Sshh!!

Don't you know that you can't complain about living in America! Where do you think you are living? China, Iran? In those countries, you can protest and the government will put you down. In America, if you protest, your neighbor will shoot you.

Stay quiet man if you want to live!! You sound like one of those Godless, perpetually fornicating liberals. Stop it!

Ahem...I love America. It is the land, blessed by God above all others. I love Democracy, we all have the right to vote for the Republican Party. I love Capitalism, corporate tax breaks and bailouts are the twin pillars of our economic dominance.

Those were just a few weeks and you did not see the uglier side of America. As you can see, America is infected with Commie loving, Socialist heathens. We are doing our best to get rid to these scums. Probably send them in exile to some garbage heap like Europe where they can collect their welfare checks, live in subsidized housing, drink wine all day, have sex with really trim and fit women and post coitus, they can smoke smelly unfiltered cigarettes (as all cigs should be) while complaining about American foreign policies.

Admit it, you want to emigrate to the God fearing USA. Welcome!

I know i didnt see the uglier side of America as i told another poster, im aware of that, but i can only talk about what i experienced.I was in Missouri,Illinois,Kentucky,NYC,and Connecticut...I just loved NYC,felt sort of magic to be there, the pulse was so high the food was tantastic but the ppl seemed very occupied. Kentucky and Illinois was sooo hot...But really nice places,Missouri seemed a bit...that they maybe were not following the rest of the country? Left behind? And connecticiut reminded me very much of Sweden actually. Well, i wouldnt mind emigrate to USA, but it would take me forever to decide WHERE in USA i would move.

Missouri is what most of the US is actually like. That's middle America.

If you wanted to play tennis all year round in the US without being filthy rich, basically south of the Mason-Dixon line. The hotbeds are Florida, Southern California, and I think Texas is big on tennis in some areas.

Also, University of Virginia, Athens GA..those college towns have a big tennis programs.

There aren't many cities in the world like NYC, never mind in the US. However, it's an IMMENSELY tough place to play tennis regularly compared to even where I live 50 miles away, where there are numerous public courts. You have to pay and WAIT for everything in NYC.

Is that part of the "social safety net" over there? Sign me up.

Seriously, "love it or leave it" Americans...in most case don't know anyone from anywhere else, and usually have never been anywhere else except maybe the Bahamas on vacation....and get all of their information from IQ lowering talk radio.

I think it's sad that you're so blind to see how socially decrepid your country has become, and how much a product of ignorance you are...
Thanks largely to the educational and religious structures prevalent in the USA...

malmo? Lund? I know these places. I've been there 4 times (wannabe musician, now wannabe tennis player. ) Do you have indoor places readily available? Playing indoors here on LI is really expensive. I parted with $500 bucks just to play 12 matches over the winter. Forget it if you want to take lessons and play more than once a week for the 3 months when you basically can't play outside, except the sporadic nice day here and there. .

Nothing wrong with criticizing america, but to act like someone's got it rough in america is just plain stupid. There's more opportunity in this country than any other. Key word opportunity. If you're a free loader, or you made bad mistakes, etc then yeah I guess a socialist country is best for those types.

I don't think a couple of trrips to Europe makes you any more of an expert than anyone else.

If you think Kentucky and Illinois are hot, then you should avoid Texas and Florida. Here in Florida, you can have oppressive heat for 4 to 5 months. Southern California near the coast has fantastic weather, but like NYC is very expensive.

Yes ppl told me that this is America, they called it the heartland, which is kind of cool i think. South of the Mason-Dixon line means? Tennis seemed to be huge in Illinois and Kentucky (Lexington) there were actually lots off´ppl watching and it was like the event of the month:) I can imagine Manhattan to be virtually impossible to get a court, but we practiced a lot in Astoria,Queens and in The Bronx, there were lots of free courts.

Sitting down and talking to people for hours on end as opposed to getting my information from Rush Limbaugh and Fox news actually makes me know more about it than you do. Talking to them about how they lead their daily lives, what is difficult for them, what is easy, what they eat, what they do for fun, what they do for work, how much the travel..sorry champ, I think I do know more about life in Europe than you do if you've never been there and never talked extensively with anyone who lives there. It really not that difficult..for the price of a flat panel TV, you could see most of Europe and experience the evil socialist oppression you hear about from Hannity.

Saying that "America rules because I said so" makes you sound really stupid. Using the typical catch words of the angry right winger, calling people freeloaders also makes you sound like an idiot. My wife and I pay over 40K in taxes when all is said and done each year. If that's feeloading, you can go you-know-what yourself. I paid my taxes, I'll now exercise my freedom to call you stupid and naive.

What's funny is that I took a lot of heat in Sweden during the early 2000's, especially from college kids who think they knew everything (what a shock). More than a few conversations started like this:

"your country is terrible, how could you vote for George Bush and support a war of aggression in Iraq..."etc, ad infinitum, even though I did neither thing!

I didn't mind it so much when it was coming from an incredibly hot 20 year old blue eyed super trim chick with a silent J in her name, but I digress.

America has it's pros and cons, so does Sweden.

I think you technically need permits to play on the courts in Astoria, but that maybe 30 bucks. The guys I know who live in the boroughs play maybe once a month where we used to play every week here.

The Mason dixon line is the border between the states that seceded during the US War of Secession/Civil War/War of Northern Aggression (depending on where you live :D ) South of that line, the climate is generally warmer unless you're up in the mountains.

..and that was with a discount.

To play 12 matches over 13 weeks rotating different opponents in a league. 2 hrs of play. .

This is one of the most expensive areas to live in the country. Real Estate is at a premium, as are property taxes and utility bills. I doubt that the club is really even turning that big a profit charging that much. Other clubs are even more expensive. There are some very wealthy people who have their whole families signed up to play there..they probably keep it open.

Oh ok, well there was some coach who took care of everything for us but he told us it was for free, i remember we practiced beneath something they called "the hell bridge", was some story to it that i dont remember. Ok so basically the southern states? I thought that ppl were really friendly in Kentucky, is that something wellknown or just a coincidence?

Seems to be very political everything? no?:| A matter of what part of society you belongs to? That use to be the way in Sweden but these days everyone plays tennis, from the richest to the poorest.

As opposed to what? Knee jerk left wing knuckleheads? You seemed enamored with Sweden that is why I suggest you move there - instead of trying to make the United States more like Sweden (quasi Socialist, 98% white, very limited immigration, below replacement level birthrate).

You mentioned a specific country that demographically is extremely different than ours. We cannot be Sweden even if you wanted.

People in most of the US are friendlier ..to your face...than they are in New York. Basically, we tend to be as nasty and self possessed as Parisians, but if you really need help, you'll get it. :D I deal with people from my company in Kentucky. One woman on a regular basis. She's sugary bubbly sweet to your face, but you should hear her talk about our boss behind her back. That "Southern Hospitality" thing can be a bit of a facade when it comes to non-Southerners. I find the ******* folks to be just as friendly, and they tend to mean it.

I know the hell bridge well, I have friends who live in Astoria. You'll shorten your life span a few years playing tennis over there on a regular basis..air quality is terrible, there's a power plant right there. Did you know that you can play at the US tennis center? It's open to the public..you can play on the same outer courts that are used for the US Open for a fee as long as there isn't a tournament going on. I drive by there once a week, and the lights are on every night, so people are playing.

Seems to be very political everything? no?:| A matter of what part of society you belongs to? That use to be the way in Sweden but these days everyone plays tennis, from the richest to the poorest.

It's now political, it's just economic. Playing indoors isn't cheap. But you don't HAVE to play indoors here..I know guys who play outside when it's 35 degrees. My cut off is 42, on the dot. :D You'll never progress to be a great player playing only once in awhile for 3 months of the year.

There are very, very few high level tennis players who do not come from at least upper middle class families, if not super rich ones. Look at every great tennis players background..it is what it is. If you want to be a great basketball player, you get a $12 ball and play every day at the local playground, then you get coached in High School, it's all free.
