This is great! "Magic of Wimbledon"/"Grande Wimbledon"/"La Magia Wimbledon" sequence of YT-clips contains some really rare, platinum moments from The Championships.

In this first clip of 6 all in all we see some familiar stuff but a lot of real great and hard-to-find jewels. The first clip alone features:

Borg vs Taylor 1973
Evert/Martina/Jaeger/Wade/Carina Karlsson (!?) et al
(the real treat for me always chasing great Kenny-vids) Rosewall vs Richey 1971 (great to see Ken score great winners and a final victory in a hardcore dogfight -- check out the score-line behind them -- and to top it off Ken gets a standing ovation!)
Hoad vs Rosewall 1956 (Hoad with the golden trophy included)
Rosewall vs Connors 1974
Goolagong et al:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1ssOOcfc6Hk

Then follow the clips called Wimbledon 2 ( and 3, 4, 5 and 6) and you'll witness some priceless stuff -- such as:

Mac vs Jimbo 1984 (last two games -- Mac playing like a madman great)
Lots of Pat Cash
Mac vs Cash SF 1984
Several Borg-matches and a special, wonderful volley-study made in slow-motion on some of Björn's finest volleys (together with several others) which demonstrate that Fortress could whack 'em like the greats when he needed to.
Laver of course... Oh, I can't mention all here but just a few real standouts:
Becker vs Joakim Nyström 1985 (in that great five-setter you see some wonderful stuff from Boris The Steamroller and even some impressive Joakim S&V -- yes, I know, unbelievable...)
And some incredibly wonderful stuff from the doubles in the late 70s and early 80s including Mac, The McNamara/McNamee, Smith, Gottfried and several others but last but not least the incomparable Frew McMillan (sporting the Norman Brookes 1907 hat) blasting his DH FH and DH BH together with Bob Hewitt or RAJ Hewitt as I used to call him...

The doubles-clips are fantastic -- worth the price of admission alone. They arrive in the later clips -- Wimbledon 4 or 5 or something.

Enjoy... :)

Nice find, Borgforever. I think, they often are from older Wimbledon dvd and video collections resp. compilations. Some of them i bought on the Wimbledon webshop. In part 2 there are clips from the Gonzales-Pasarell match. I love, how Gorgo has bandaged all his single fingers with some tape, and how he arrogantly wipes his brow with his middle finger. On the compilation i have, they also show the first part of the match, which ended in the dark. Gorgo is up there against Colonel Mike Gibson, the stiffed upper lip umpire. In the dark, he is constantly protesting, throws away the second set and is booed off the court. In the glooming light of the video, he looks almost green-bronce and a bit like Moctezuma himself, raging against Cortez.

That Gaucho is the most hilarious piece Borg has ever done :) I can't watch that without, well, ROFL... And as far as bad judgment is concerned, I used to think that Björn's choice of drop-volley on Mac's seventh set-point in "the tie-breaker" was rock-bottom, but it's easily surpassed by this classic bit of golden, unintentional comedy...

Not a problem, I am all for the comedy and there needs to be more of it, when it comes to tennis. He is just showing his flair and the moves are just priceless. To me his rock bottom move was marrying that Loredana Bertè.

Agassi-Wilander 1988 RG Semi (links still working):

Agassi vs Wilander - 1st set http://www.megaupload.com/?d=MTT4QOLX
Agassi vs Wilander - 2nd set http://www.megaupload.com/?d=EISJB2Q9
Agassi vs Wilander - 3rd set http://www.megaupload.com/?d=RC4MU6FM
Agassi vs Wilander - 4th set http://www.megaupload.com/?d=UVQQYCUC
Agassi vs Wilander - 5th set http://www.megaupload.com/?d=KX7YFBT2

Courts are turtle slow! Agassi is creating superb angles. Wilander has unbelievalbe balance even when stretched 3 meters wide from the singles line. Nice ralleys! Agassi seems quite ok in the net although ok is not enough to win too many points against Wilander. :-D

Thats nice to find all these links on youtube and I've seen a few of the old-timers tennis but I could not find anything exciting in their game-technique, nor the speed and power or anything close to what Federer, Nadal or any of the top ten Pro's have to offer and therefore "endless rallies" of gesterday are boring me to tears. I will buy tapes of all the great players of this generation wherever I can find them because these guys have to really earn their titles with "sweat, teers and often serious injuries". Something You hardly ever heard any old generation tennis player suffer from. Their 100 titles amount to a drop in the bucket against what it would take to earn them in todays competition. There is no argument you have to proove otherwise.
Laver, Rosewell aso., all had their place in their time but if they had to compete today against Federer, Nadal, Djokovic, Murray, Del Potro, Roddick, Davydenko just to name a few...I bet we would have a total different picture. It is therefore irrational to compare Laver to Federer and or the rest in todaays Draw-- because it's a total different platform and a total different ball game.. Happy Valentines Day

All things, that can distract an opponent. Stalling, mocking, arguing, screaming, spitting, even throwing sets and matches. Often a bit childish. Once he played a Wim doubles with Connors with a bowler hat or with an umbrella. Sometimes he screamed at line judges and umpires, they should call him Mr. Nastase. At Bournemouth against Panatta, once a match was halted for an hour, due to his antics. At USO he almost got into a fight with German Pohmann, called him Hitler. Another time at USO, in an infamous match with McEnroe, the umpire Frank Hammond disqualified him, but, as a riot rose among the crowd, the decision was corrected by the tournament referee Talbert. Between him and his close friend Connors, a bitter conflict started, when Connors told him (falsely) in a Las Vegas match, that his mother had died in an Rumanian earthquake.

Yeah¡¡¡ this was Nasty´s getting back what he had invested.Apart from that, you must consider that he and Jimbom were so close...Watch Roland Garros 1973...

We all, however, must admitt that he was one of the game dinamizers in the 1970´s...¿Do you remember his scalp dance against the great A.Ashe?

I wonder if you ever think of tennis as a game of fun and exciting times...not just as a competition between young and old.Believe me, except for Fed and countryman Rafa, the rest of your heroes are just meatloaf... they would crash away Laver,Connors,Newcombe,Mc,
Borg,Lendl,Becker,Rosewall,Agassi,Sampras and all the players you want to mention...but they will never increase any sport audience at a 0,005% rate...¿Roddick? ¿Djokovic? ¿Del Potro? ¿davy...?...

Federer will never even aspire to have Mc Enroe´s magnetism and magic so much as Nadal is continent´s away of Borg´s Poise and sex appeal

Nastase was one of the most gifted athletes of all time. Like Borg, his best shot was his body. Was fast like the wind. In tennis terms, he played an artistic allround game like Santana or now Federer. Had all the shots, including the topspin lob. Developed a very hard, underrated serve, especially in his later years. Only weakness was maybe the penetration on the volley, which cost him at least one Wimbledon win. Played and won many , many tournaments, around 80, if you count pre open and open era. Could beat and demolish all top players, including Borg and Connors, whom he owned for most of his career.Under the tutelage of Tiriac, he turned to nasty tricks, often to his own detriment. His nerves were as highly strung as his rackets. Had problems with favorite-status. In 1973, as the only top player, to play Wimbledon, and hottest favorite ever, he lost to Sandy Mayer in round of 16. Playing on his home ground, home clay and before all his relatives as line judges, he gifted the Davis Cup 1972 to the Americans, which made him very unpopular in Bukarest. Was disqualified by referee Horst Klosterkemper in the first round of 1975 Masters vs. Ashe, only to win the tournament vs. Borg 2,2 and 1.

Nastase did not win more slams because of his temper and antics...however, he was one of the most complete and talented player of then best era for tennis, the 70´s.On his day, he was nearly unbeatable, and most of the time, he defeated himself.

In all, he had many of the virtues that made tennis of that time so great

It's no wonder Laver lost to Connors. He had an extra 10 pounds or so of collar on his shirt; that Sister Bertrille look couldn't have helped him. :) But man, what a player. I could watch Laver hit like that all day long...

Hans Pohman?... was at that match and the Mac match.

ground level shots in rosewall-roche wimby vid another reminder of how miniscule the grass court bounce was back in the day.
