I've strung two racquets on it and so far it has been nothing but great. The first racquet only took me 40 minutes and that included reading the stringing directions in the Neos manual. The second one only took a bit more than 30 minutes and was by far the fastest I'd ever strung a racquet. So easy even me and the cavemen can do it.

Glad to hear that you're having a good experience with your Neos. Not surprising at all.

That is quite a deal you got there VGP. Do you have a picture of your stringer after all the mods you did to it or do the pictures you've already posted show them?

No new pics. The only difference is that I've got (according to Bret at Gamma) the last two available 4000 tennis clamps from their warehouse.

I decided I wanted to buy the Neos after I found it on craigslist because that is the stringer used by both of the MRTs in the proshop of my club.

Again, not surprising.

Also my next-door officemate got a deal similar to yours when be "bought" a used but good condition Eketelon model H (the Neos' granddad) from a guy for something like $100 plus lifetime stringing privileges. Then the seller promptly moved before my buddy ever had to string a single racquet for him and without leaving any forwarding information so he couldn't even be sent the $100 he was owed. When they met a couple of years later the seller just said about the money, "don't worry about it" and presto, my friend had a free stringer!

Yeah, perhaps the guy your friend got the machine from just wanted it out of the house. That was the case with the machine I got. The machine and some tennis stuff was in the house when they moved in. They're soccer people and don't have an interest in tennis. I initially went there for some rackets that were advertised on craigslist. When I got there, they were setting up for a garage sale and I saw they had the machine. I looked at it and it was incomplete and I happened to mention that to the woman selling their things. I left thinking, "oh well." Later that evening, the wife mentioned that to her husband and he recalled seeing more stuff that belonged to it. She emailed me back with pictures and everything. It took some scheduling, but within the week I picked it up complete (but with worn out clamps) for the $25.

$100 plus lifetime stringing for the Ektelon Model H? Not bad on the surface and even better that the guy didn't seem to mind in the end......but what if the seller was a bit nutty and wanted his rackets strung every day?

Well my friend is a bit nutty too so he probably would have strung them.

Holy cow, I thought I got a good deal on my Neos but that is literally a steal. The string reel alone is over $200 US.

sorry to go on somewhat of a tangent, but was curious if you knew how well the eagnas hawk-80 performs seeing that you have a machine by eagnes.

Here's a picture of my little baby. After using an Eagnas lockout machine for the past 4 years, I can really now appreciate the quality of good clamps and parts. Granted, I dont string too many racquets. Just string for myself and friends, but I really enjoy stringing as a hobby and just thought I would treat myself to something better having used something so bad for all these years.

Thanks for posting that pic. Mine is the xtreme sports that's correct. I was speaking to the distributor and he did say that a new model will be released called the rxv3 later this year which will have cosmetic differences and so e extra additional features.

The machine that you posted looks like what the new model will look like. That machine looks totally awsome. Wish I waited but for a home stringer I don't think it would matter as much.

If you decide you want to upgrade to the new model, let me know I might be interested in your current machine.

Ok!
I just got it but I got show some love for it and all who owns one....

Here we have from left to right the new speed clamp from Eagnas, the Stringway triple clamp, and the 2 Gamma clamps!

:)

Ok I went from this to this:
Czech Tension Sport MS-700.

Works great, drop weight, 6 point mounting, love the single action fixed clamps, although the only clamps I have used are floating...hmmmmmmmmmm.

My brand new rig. Yet to be used. Looking for a cart (I like the Husky cart idea). Need to stock up on some string and string a few extras to pay for it. Glad to have this vs. paying $39 for a hybrid at the tennis shop.

^^LOL. When I first posted the photo, I mentioned how funny people are in that they notice the funniest things when people post photos.

Anyway, got it from a guy up north who had listed it over a year ago, and never sold it. Machine is rock solid, and strings beautifully. :)

Hi Drak, what are your plans for the Neos? ... planning on selling it?

On another note, I would like to string my racquet on the same machine Roger Federer does! ;) ...

Right now, I have it as my backup stringer.

That is fairly cool. sampras, federer, murray, delpotro, hewitt, gonzo, etc.

When you visit again, you definitely have to check it out, and then we go party again!!!!! Woo-Hoo!!!!

Glad to hear it. I'm upgrading my Apex 2 & Wise, and I can't decide between a Star 3, 4, or 5. Any thoughts?

Apex + Wise tension is alread a nice upgrade, and may be all you need. however, since you asked......................

The Star 3 and 4 both have identical moutning systems, clamp bases and center clamps. Where they differ is in the tensioning mechanism. The star 3 has a anaolog dial to set tension, and only pulls at one speed. That's it.

The star 4 is digital and has 3 different pull speeds; a "kevlar function" for strings that don't really stretch, cross button, tie of button, etc. So you get more bells and whistles. The 4 also has what is called a "load cell" to set tension, which is said to be more accurate than what the star 3 has. ( not sure if one is better than the other)

The star 4 is very hard to come by. I waited for over a year to find one. The star 3's are plentiful, and coudl be purchased at below 1,000.

the biggest selling point (for me) the star 5 has, is that it is new. I don't prefer the mounting space on the 5 over the 3 or 4, nor do I like the 3 teeth clamps that come with the 5. Also, the 5's base clamps is a round knob you have to turn to lock it in place. That said, it is still an awesome machine. However, if I had to go the route of a new machine, over a used one, for the price, I'd go with the new Prince machines. Not only are they roughly the same price as the star 5, but the mounting and clamping, IMO are better, and you get about $3,000 in strings.

Good luck! :)

Not to contradict what drak says but as far as the mounting on the star 5 goes. I think it is by far the best in the buisness with the star 3 and 4 behind it. The Prince's clamps and mounting are the same as the star 3 and 4 thats probably why drak prefers it. The Star 5s clamps are very ergonic and easy to use. I have extensively use the star 4(probably done about 1k racquets on it) and I find the star 5 clamps a lot faster because they sit up a lot closer to the stringbed. The star 5 is a great machine. I've done lots of gut poly everything and its all great. I've had it since December have about 400 racquets on it so far.

The leather was a new expieremental addition I added to put the starting clamp on. It works great.

How to those base clamps work and are they spring assisted?

I'm curious to know if you ever need to adjust the clamp bases and if so, how???

The clamp bases of the Star 5 are adjustable. All you have to do is lift the cap of the base clamp and use a hex key to adjust the hex cap screw.
That said, I've not needed to adjust the clamp bases.

Are those Eagnas Clamps? I read Eagnas PN-1012 Clamps work on Sensors and Sensor Export.

I have no idea about any of the Eagnas clamps or whether they work with the Sensor machines. My machine is a Star 5, and I just use the original (Babolat) clamps which came on the machine.

The Star 5 is a great looking machine, it looks super solid! Eagnas should be mentioned in the same sentence as a Babolat Star 5!
