all the poly hype

Lately on the forums there has been tons of poly talk, so me, someone trying to learn about poly's, is asking some basic questions of you guys.

1. List your top 5 favorite poly's in order.

2. Give your favorite hybrid string with it.

I hope this thread will clear up some basic questions for all of the people asking which is the best poly.

no such thing as the "best string" as it's very personal and some ppl will always love a certain string and others would hate that same string..u just need to experiment with a few different strings and see which one u like best

my top 5 are:

genesis spin x
pro supex big ace
genesis black magic
topspin cyber flash
luxilon alu power

best hybrid string i found for the price has been pro supex maxim touch

yes, it's a pretty good string IMO...all depends on what you are looking for.. it plays amazing for the first 3-4 hours (for me) and then it goes downhill quick.. for me, it if i dont cut it out after 5 hours, i can't put a ball on the court and i'm a solid 6.0 or so player

Right now I'm using full Blue Gear (pro supex) in my PDR.

I used to hybrid it with Goosen OG.

There's no single best poly, it all about what you want from a string.

well thats quite a statement, thanks for your help ill give it a try. have you ever played with kirschbaum pl2, thats another string i have not tried and its gotten such great feedback. thanks!

sounds like pro supex is quite a brand, do they have any relatively low-powered, high spin strings with nice feel. at the moment thats what i am looking for from any string if you have any suggestions.

I've played with Blue Gear and Big Ace.

Blue Gear is a textured spin string. Fairly low powered and has ok feel.

IMHO Big Ace has a more traditonal feel to it - didn't feel like I got as much spin as the Blue Gear.

I think the main selling point of Pro Supex is that they sell a decent string for fairly cheap.

If you are really after feel, you my want to try Pro Supex Maxim Touch, it's more of a multi with a poly coating. It's one of the fav strings of one of the tennis pros I know.

I don't feel like thinking which I like better so no particular order
1. Cyberflash hybrid with Gosen syn gut
2. Alu Power Rough (probably my favorite)
3. Big Banger Ace (close second)
4. Big Banger Original (tried out briefly in a friends racquet, felt nice and smooth)
5. M2 hybrid with Gosne syn gut

Honorable Mentions
SPPP- kind of muted and spin was decent
Polylon Ice hybrid with Gosen- surprisingly very playable. Tried it in 2 different frames for a short time and it felt quite nice with good spin. Great price too.

As you can see, I like to hybrid with Gosen to keep the price down and to soften the string up abit and I like Luxilon quite abit (except for the price).
I'm currently trying out Big Ace and Premier Ace. So far not really liking Big Ace but I haven't tried it in a hybrid with my usual Gosen. I thought Big Ace doesn't compare in spin to Luxilon but still has good potential. I just didn't like the feel. It felt like there was abit more feedback than I'd like. Trying it in a hybrid with Gosen could mean all the difference though as the Gosen might dampen that bit of feedback. I tried CF once as a full string job and I thought it was abit harsh but in a hybrid, it felt alot better and I liked it awhole lot more. Haven't tried Premier Ace yet. I hear though its similar to Big Ace except lower powered and stiffer (I'll just string it lower then).

But if money wasn't a problem (don't we all wish it wasn't), Luxilon all the way for me.

Supracool, have you tried full jobs of both MSV Focux Hex and PLII?

If so, can you share your thoughts about them:

Thanks in advance.

Btw, I'm currently playing with PLII in one of my racquets( 1.15mm diameter ) and I'm loving it. great feedback, great control, enough power, excellent bite and good spin/slice potential. Not harsh at all.

I think I'm settling down with PLII and selling my BAM reels, but I'm really curious about MSV Focus Hex, especially at 1.10mm diameter.

  3. MSV Hex 18L

I have used syn gut, kevlar and nylon and I know that I like the qualities of poly the most. There is something about MSV Hex that suits my game much more than other strings. I am a lefty that uses heavy slice. I recently tried signum pro blackline tornado 1.23 which is a string with great reviews and I disliked it so much that I had to cut it out. I find it hard to believe that anyone could dislike this string.

Sorry, but I never use full poly on my racquets. I had tennis elbow before, and I don't want to get it again!

Absolutely agree it's personal preference. The good thing about poly's now-a-days is there are plenty out there. Most of them have different characteristics so everyone should be able to find one they like. I personally like Genesis Spin X and Polyfibre TCS 17. The Polyfibre is great for the first few hours but seems to loose tension rather quickly. I've got about 6 hours on the Genesis and so far so good. Good luck with your search!

thanks audio!

great responses and info guys! how does pl2 compare to hex, because pl2 sounds like its right up my alley.

how does blue gear play in a hybrid? is it soft or stiff?

I'm interested in buying this string. Is is comfortable? I've tried big banger ace and liked that, but it's kind of pricey. How is MSV Focus Hex in comparison? Thanks for any feedback!

^^^ MSV Hex 18L (1.10) is one of the most comfortable poly's I've tried, and I've tried many. I like MSV way better than Lux Timo 18, but have not really played with the Ace.

I have been using X-1 17 (M) and MSV Focus Hex 17 (X), and I haven't had any problems with durability. Its seems to last quite a while, then again I'm not a big string breaker anymore. When I had a pro staff org 6.0 95, I was breaking strings like crazy!

X-1 is a very soft string, careful when your weaving and pulling your crosses, because the MSV Hex will chew up the X-1!

Yea, MSV is a lot cheaper. Comfort wise MSV Hex is extremely comfortable for a poly. If you had no problems with lux BB ace comfort wise then you will enjoy MSV Hex because it is more comfortable and is available in a thinner gauge. Just make sure that you use the 18L 1.10mm version of MSV because I have not tried the other ones to compare and this really feels amazing. It really hard to find a string this thin without it being kevlar which is probably why it feels so good. Once you try it tell me what you think because I am interested to hear a new perspective on it.

My favorite so far is Cyberflash. It is cheap and can handle heavy hitting for a little while. The spin is outstanding.

I feel like poly is bad for the arm if your form is not up to snuff. I was arming it for a while and killed my arm. Now that I got my strokes back and use my entire body proplery, poly is fine for me. The reason I love it is the spin I can get. I get shots to drop all the time that simply would not without it. How do I know this? I usually have a spare stick strung with a multi in my bag that simply does not get the same spin as the poly.

If you are a flat hitter, I personally do not think poly is as important to use. It is really best for topspin baseliners.

Thanks for the feedback. I'm interested to try such a comfy poly! TW doesn't carry Focus Hex in 18L, so I'm gonna have to go with 1.18mm in red. Where did you get 18L? Thanks

trapp tennis at the bay. You would probably enjoy 1.18mm a lot as well I just haven't tried it personally. Both of them have amazing ratings on string forum the 1.18 possibly better I am just way to satisfied with the one I am using though.
