Did the boards change recently??

hey, guys/gals at TW! Hope all is well.

I just noticed most new threads have nearly the same amount of "views" as they do posts/replies, where-as older threads typically have *A LOT* more "views" than posts.

Did something change???

Thanks, and tell Spencer I want to do a review of the new Vapor VI shoes when they come out in October. :) Also, where do I submit my application to become a moderator. I have a few posters I need to deal with. :)

Well, Drak, I just "viewed" this one 5 times as a test - no change in the total views.

it said 2 replies and 3 views (i guess views are us 3). However since I am subscribed to this thread, in my userCP the views are still 0 for most new threads.

^^Yeah, every new thread has the same formula. Whatever number of posts there is, add 1, and you get the number of views.

^^^Except a very few, which are threads with a whole lot of views.

Very bizarre.

No, I'm talking about threads that have "recently" started. Older threads typically have **WAY** more views than posts. However, all newer threads have just one more view, than post.

Yeah, I know. I actually noticed it on the Legg Mason thread that I started earlier this month...I saw that the views were only one more than the posts...made me think nobody was reading it! :(

Also, in my control panel, it says this thread has '0' views! Which, of course, can't be true on account of the number of replies.

Must just be a bug...can't think of a reason TTW would *want* the set-up like this?

I noticed this phenomena in my for sale advertisement... only one view in the last 24 hours

I noticed it a week ago. I was expecting the Global Gut thread to hit the 50,000 mark, and it has been stuck at 48,148. :(

I sent an e-mail to the super-admin, i also reported the original thread so the admins would see it for sure. I think we just have to wait.

I'm really hoping it's not a database corruption that will force us to revert to an old backup of the database. Those always suck really bad.

^^^^meh, thats not worth it for a view counter.

it felt like an admin was already running some cycles at times today when a moment (10 seconds) the forum page wouldnt load.

I did find a "bug" this weekend that exhibited the same behavior, maybe Spencer was verifying it? Sounds like you have quite a bit of VBB administration experience? Can you shoot me an e-mail? my screen name @gmail :)

Thanks!

Nah, some staffed by TW probably knows way more than me. What I told you is all I have...lol I admin a forum thats roughly half the size of this one and there are 2 admins. The other admin is usually the one who does the VB hacks, updates, and codes. I stick with watching/making the other moderators, handling peoples usergroups, account approvals, banning, and making funny word filters.

I'll ask my admin partner. We are running 3.8.1 Patch Level 1 and the view counters are working fine. The newest available is 3.8.4. Speaking of that perhaps an update has the patch for the view counter. The last version we had was 3.5 something and it took about 2 hours to update it so downtime might be a problem. vbulletin.org might have a record of it.

Hmmm... our version is in the 3.6 range :) I'll see when the big guy gets back to me before figuring out next steps, though. I'm still a newbie :)
