Because there's a review thread on each string already, I thought that it would be appropriate to create a poll for both strings

You are welcome to suggest why you voted for that string..

I truly believe they're EXACTLY the same thing.

Gaucho doesn't offer 17ga yet and doesn't offer 18ga at all.

Gaucho has already acknowledged the strings are manufactured at the same plant as Global. However, keep in mind>> many polyester strings used are also manufactured in the same plant. For example, luxilon, wilson, kirschbaum, could all be manufactured in the same plant. There was a thread once about this, and it listed all the poly, synthetic, kevlar strings that were made in the same place.

This is also true for Kevlar strings,,,,, all manufactured in the same place,,,,such as Ashaway, and Prince to name two.

Point is, some compaines request different specs on their string, color, gauges, etc. People are making a big deal about this in regards to global/gaucho, without realizing many of the defferent strinsg the currently play with are in the same boat.

I voted for Gaucho. Here are reasons:
1. Quality seems a little better. There is no doubt Gaucho's coating is much better.
2. New Jersey location. Yes, It is in USA. You don't need to worry about month-long international shipping.

Gaucho...side by side comparison with Global shows a healthier string (will try and upload pics soon- my digi cam is on the fritz). Hit this morning and was getting some nice pop on serves and a little extra spin on my backhand slice. Strung a full bed at 60lbs on my Pure Drive.

Fact: Global's coating (and overall quality) is much beter than it used to be.

I'm asking myself these questions . . . (No facts just Hmm?)

How many sets of Gaucho Gut do you think they have sold? More that 3 or 4 of the 50 or 100 set lots that Global Gut was offering on de bay?

How much speculation on this board later gets quoted as fact ? Drak . . . You used the word "could".

Do you really think there's a separate production line, different techniques, materials, and machinery at the Emerson depending on which string they are making?

Does Emerson ship from India to Uruguay and then to New Jersey?

Where has Gaucho Gut been since 2001? Somebody's business 101 paper?

bsandy, I am having a hard time following your post.

however, I don't think there is a separate production line. I believe a company could contact the manufacturer of any type of string and request specific specs (gauge, color, etc). In the case of Gaucho, I could only provide feedback to one set I tried. The coating on it was better than the coating on the strings of the Global.

Could this be that Gaucho either requested it, or after receving the string put the coating on themsleves?? I can't answer that.

Also, the Gaucho has the spiral. Again, is this something they requested from the manufacturer or once they received their string, used a separate plant for this process?? Again, I don't know.

All I'm saying is many companies that sell strings (wilson, ashaway, prince, etc, etc, etc) use the exact same manufacturer, and once they receive the string, put their own brand name on it.

I don't know and I don't know, but I did niotice Green on the bay, a week or two ago.

(Not really sure what racquet I'd put green in.)

Kidding aside, I'm still waiting to order. I would like to order a few sets of the red spiral.

I do not know why companies like Babolat, Luxilon, Prince, Wilson, spend so much money on advertising nowdays, they should learn from this 2 companies, they are getting thousands of $$ of free publicity on internet, here, there and everywhere...

I'd like to try global, but I don't want to shell out $75 to find out. I'm not quite impressed with gaucho, the black gut consistencey was way off, 1.30mm to 1.50mm. :confused:

If it plays well, I won't really care what gauge consistency is. I have one and a half set of black. I'll take more measurements before I install just to make sure.

Gauge consistency drives me nuts. Couldn't use Babolat Tonic long term as it had this same problem. I am currently using Pacific Classic in mains with a synthetic gut cross. Real nice feel and consistent at about the cost of all Gaucho or Global. Better than any mutli in my opinion.

Does anyone think that Gaucho or Global full job plays better than a Pacific Classic / syn gut hybrid?

I haven't had the opportunity to try Gaucho, yet... so I've abstained from voting :twisted:

However, my red Global Gut in the APD is still going strong... almost ready to cut it out to try something different.

Wow, finally a poll that I can make fun of that Im personally involved in.

Who's even using Gaucho yet? If it's 58 to 4 that people like Gaucho, Im going to have to wonder if those 58 people have even tryed it.

Maybe it's slightly better. Not sure it's 50% better though (for those who are math challenged $15 is 50% higher then $10)

But Global is working fine for me so I'll save the extra $5 thank you.

If anything it's great for the consumer because a $15 Gaucho will keep the Global lower.

Also I think its unfair that Gaucho is using their magical teleportation device from India to New Jersey for their own profitable purposes. They should share their technology for the good of all mankind!:wink:

It's that Mubai to Newark express.

Some people are willing to pay a premium to have it now instead of a few weeks later. That's what keeps FedEx and UPS in business. ;)

I haven't tried Gaucho yet ,but what is there not to like about Global Gut.. it plays like gut,feels like gut and saves my arm .. with all that it cost the same as the mid-end poly ... if you're an experienced stringer,it's great... I've strung up 4 now and I've put it at 60 lbs. with using Wise head at 15% pre-stretch which like 68 lbs and it goes back to 60 then I clamp.. no problem at all.. one of my player's racket has already clocked in over 20 hours ,lasting longer than Pro Supex maxim,on the mains and Maxim cross...

Couldn't agree more.

How many stories are there in the Global thread that read something like: "Well, it's been two weeks now, and I'm still waiting. Should I e-mail Emerson to see what's up? How long did your shipment take?" Not to mention the ever-popular "I ordered 5 sets of black 16, but they sent me two black and three red, all in 15 gauge."

No I guess you have me there, I used to be impatient and I wanted stuff now. (heck I still do for some things like if I have a big tournament coming up and I need something now)

If that's you and you're willing to pay $5 more and you get a slightly better product then Gaucho's probably worth it.

But for me, I have to buy 5 or 10 sets at a time anyway. 5 sets will probably last me over a year, doesnt much matter when the next batch gets here.

I think if they sold it in single sets, waiting weeks for it to arrive would suck (because Id probably need one now), but since it's multiple sets it's not really a big deal. I can wait for the 50% savings....

Only if you only use half of the set (like for a hybrid).

It comes in two separate bundles of 20 feet, each enough for either the mains or the crosses. It's kind of nice actually. (unless you REALLY wanted to do a one piece for some reason)

I emailed Global direct and they shipped me 16 sets for $180. (=$11.25 a set).

I haven't played with global, but I tried Gaucho with MSV Hex crosses and it felt incredible! This blend gave me a lot spin off my kick serve and forehands. The ball feels like it stays on the racquet such a long time with this set-up.

My other racquet has X-1 with MSV Hex crosses, and the Gaucho out plays the X-1 by far!

I almost was going to try Gaucho since I was almost out of Global, I was willing to give it a shot in case it's any less riskier and shipment was quicker.

But alas, they dont have anything close to the colors they advertise, and Id have to wait 2 weeks for them to even have 16 gauge (the only have 15g).

So so much for shipping worrys when they dont even have the product....

So I just went ahead and ordered 10 more sets of Global (8 16g black and 2 16g Red) and Im taking my chances with that. 10 sets with shipping for $120, I believe they say it will take 2 weeks, we'll see....

Im not mad, just thought I'd throw that out there... :)

I probably have 3 other people as well that Ive sold part of my order too, that Ive turned them onto the wonders of the Global mains/Isospeed crosses setup.

I make no money on doing that, but I enjoy it because I believe it does make a HUGE difference over the cheap synthetic crap they had been using.

Someone should come up with a cool name for that setup like the Mojo blend was with Klip. (I think this is actually better, because Klip is way too crisp and plastic like for anyone who was used to using VS or Wilson Gut)

Would have never know Gaucho Gut existed, thanks to this web site. I have been using VS Gut & Luxilon Alu as a hybird. I must say that Gaucho Gut performs very well, especially for the price. I preffer the Spiral over the sold colors...spiral gut gave a nice solid sound and feel, the coated colored gut felt okay but a sound of a full bed of poly. Only hit with the COLORED GUt for a few minutes. Totally happy with the "Spiral" blue and so is my check book!

Sorry to go off topic, but I'm curious.

If you're someone who is prone to sweaty hands, will it be harmful to string up a natural gut string job?

They are sweaty 100% of the time? Cant you just dry them while you are stringing?

Or do you mean while you are playing???

I sweat a TON and I use Natural Gut.

When I was using Wilson Gut I was very paranoid about it and used to use head tape just for the purpose of not touching the string that comes thru the grommets or having to worry about dripping sweat onto it. (and when I applaud I tend to hit the top of the racquet frame, rather then hit the strings)

I never really noticed any negative wear though outside of whatever normal wear is for gut. The humidity of August here was about the worst Ive experienced, otherwise I could make a gut job last for 3 or 4 months sometimes. (I'll only cut it out then because it loses some tension by then and since it's not really all that crisp I like it at a higher tension)

Wow. Well I guess Ive never actually strung a racquet before so if it's really time consuming and tedious I might have that issue as well.

I would think though just having moist hands isnt as big of a deal as when you're playing tennis and you're dripping sweat all over the place like a faucet.
