ESPN2 is not covering weekend nite matches. This really sucks compare to USA. I wish USA had renewed their contract. I miss USA's intro music.

Why can't tennis channel be included on regular cable packages like Golf Channel?

It'd bring in way more viewers than Golf Channel.

Tennis Channel already shows all the Masters' series that aren't shown here in the USA (Cincy, Toronto/Montreal, Indian Wells, Miami).

That's just wrong. Don't they want people watching their product? TTC's audience has to be a fraction of the size of ESPN and CBS.

I doubt that. There is a huge market for Golf in this country. 3 of the 4 majors in golf are in the US, and it gets constant coverage in the US media. Tennis might be closer if the US had a tennis player that was dominant on the level of Tiger Woods, but we don't. He's out there but he's from Switzerland.....shucks.

That's the thing though... Tiger Woods is the only reason Golf Channel really got the support to start.

Tiger Woods brings in viewers, and to an extent so does Mickelson.

However, all of Golf's majors are on NBC, ABC, ESPN, and TNT (though I think TNT is no longer going to cover golf anymore and gave up their rights to ESPN).

And golf is not a sport most people like watching on TV (unless Tiger is on), tennis actually can keep people tuned in.

Tiger deserves all the credit and attention he deserves, because he is so dominant and he is THAT good.

However I think the media doesn't really cover golf that much if Tiger doesn't win a major.

If Mickelson wins a major, some people will watch. Last year Padraig Harrington won two majors and nobody really paid attention, in most part because Tiger didn't play.

When Sportscenter does their golf highlights, they devote their first section to strictly Tiger Wood's highlights, then they show the rest of the field.

When Tiger gets 2nd or 3rd, the story is that Tiger didn't win, rather than "player" won. When he lost the lead in the PGA the headlines were "Did YE Yang win, or did Tiger lose?"

TTC needs to offer an HD channel for cable not only for Direct TV.

Indeed.

I think Comcast now offs NFL Network for free because of some lawsuit complaining about why Direct TV and Dish got it for free.

Hopefully someone does the same with TTC.

ESPN2 won't have the daytime matches over the weekend, either. Those will be on CBS (with night matches on Tennis Channel).

This type of dis-jointed TV coverage is not doing the popularity of the sport any favors. You have two different networks covering the Open during the week, then a third jumps in for the weekend, while one jumps out. You won't see this type of confusion in another televised sport. The USTA is to blame, they make the fans work way to hard to watch their sport.

Tennis isn't as popular as Golf in USA. All these major networks executives are obssessed with Golf Not tennis.

People in this thread are seriously ********. It sucks but ESPN and CBS will not show tennis over COLLEGE FOOTBALL. I'm lucky in that I get TTC but Im lucky they're showing it anywhere, plus with the online streaming. I'm a fan of another sport where two meets are aired on television per year, nationals and world championships and that's it. It really sucks that a lot of people wont see the night matches but that's the price you pay when you like a sport that's not popular in the country.

I don't know why people are upset though. It's Safina/someone and
Blake/Robredo. Are we really crying that this won't be on ESPN2???

I don't care if ESPN does not cover US Open over the weekend. However, must there be a blackout on USTA's online stream. Must we be limited to only one court when there are potentially good matches on the other show courts.

Yeah, this is serious bull$hit. I can't believe they shut down the live streams.

Okay, I don't use the live streams because I just have Internet on my iPhone so I didn't know about the streams. That is ****ing horrible. Only five people get TTC.

What sucks is that when CBS is broadcasting on air, they force both USOpen.org and ESPN360 to stop streaming of any matches online because they don't want any stolen eyeballs away from their TV commercials. I want to see the Djokovic-Witten match right now and it's not online anywhere. :(

my local CBS decided not to show tennis today. they are showing college football (tennesse...which is nowhere near where i live) and i called and complained. everyone needs to call and complain if their local station is not showing the us open right now!

i'm so enraged. like if this was the NFL playoffs i'm preeetttyy sure they wouldn't just randomly decide to not show the coverage. so what makes it okay when it's tennis? why does tennis get no respect!? >

Last year when the US Open finals where pushed to Monday due the rain, my local CBS station decided not to show it. I called and complained. They said they wanted to show the local news instead. Crazy to me to think that I never got to see the 2009 FINALS of the US Open because they wanted to show the local news. In general all the networks SUCK at covering tennis. It's sad. I know you can watch it tonight streaming (I think) but who the hell wants to watch it at their computer when you have a big screen in the next room. I don't!!!!

These major network executives are obsessed with Tiger Woods, and the ratings he brings.

Saying tennis isn't popular in USA is like saying Soccer isn't popular here. Soccer isn't "popular" in the sense that our major league soccer promotion is basically almost minor league compared to European leagues. However it's the most popular recreational sport in this country.

I don't mind if the show NFL playoffs over tennis but College Football? Are you kidding me?

Any college sports getting better ratings than tennis is just ridiculous.

College sports has little to no value. It's meaningless. Seeing a a bunch of people with little to not close potential playings vs each other. Wow absolutely ********.

Shame on the network broadcasters.

Hate to break it to you - but college football and basketball are incredibly popular and lucrative - on the level of, if not surpassing, the NFL and NBA. They are HUGE in the USA and get WAY more people interested, ratings and advertising dollars than tennis. Not even close. Just the way it is.

That's true for me anyway. I'll watch college basketball over the NBA any day. In fact, I never watch the NBA. I'd much rather watch a bunch of feisty, young college kids playing for their school pride than watch a bunch of overpaid prima donnas who almost never miss.

Tennis Channel is on at my house -- $35 "grounds pass" allows you access to the hot tub in the backyard if the match gets dull.

Tennis Channel is free these two weeks, isn't it? I am at a friend's house and they don't normally have a subscription, but they have it free this week. Or at least they do on their DISH Network, channel 400.
