Not played for 27 years. Here's a thought...

Hi all!

I've been away from tennis for 27 years and just a few weeks ago I started hitting again whilst on holiday. It felt good, but my timing was rubbish...

..anyway, now that I've been playing a bit more I'm finding I'm having to change something quite dramatically from my heyday in the 70's.

It's the sweetspot I'm struggling with. The last racquet I played with properly in the 70's was a fibreglass Slazenger Grand Prix and it weighed over 400grams! The important thing is, that the sweetspot in that racquet is about 2 - 3 inches further away from my hand position than the sweetspot on my new racquet.

I find now that I'm having to force myself to play the ball that much closer to my hand position to get a sweet shot and a good pop. This is actually proving quite tricky, especially with my service.

Anybody else noticed this?:-?

If weight on your frame is not an isue you could ad lead to the upper part of the hoop, it shoul in theory pull the sweetspot higher up.

Thanks for this and the other reply. I'd thought about popping some lead up near the top of the racquet to move the sweetspot up a bit.

My current racquet is a Dunlop AG 500 Tour and could easily handle the extra weight.

That link in the previous reply is fascinating! Hadn't come across that before. Shows pretty much that most modern racquets sweet spot is pretty much in the same place, near enough, but that the power levels vary hugely!

I'll get some lead tape.....
