anyone here golf? what's your handicap and how good were you at your best? give some views of golf ,compared to tennis..

for me I picked up golf a long time ago,but I wished I started when I was a kid..I got hooked and at one time, all I wanted to do is golf.. my lowest handicap index was 1.3,not bad but after that it was not fun anymore, when you get to a certain point in golf and you're not good enough for pro,it got to be pointless... going out for a round of golf and hitting 1 or 2 over was good but a bit boring when you cannot go under...

I bought a starter set of clubs but have only made it to the range twice to work on my drives. Best drive I have got so far was probably 275+/- yards. Nice line drive straight ahead, I guess its not bad for someone who has never picked up a club lol. I did it a few times but most hooked or were just bad hits.

Man, golf rules! I miss it, havent played at all this year.... I got my clubs here at home, the last three years I was really into it and gettin better, getting myself in tournaments and won a couple actually. What I like the most is how difficult it is to get good, get the technique down and different shots down. I think I could get to 10 hc or lower if I played consistently but Ive hardly played. At my best, I was shooting about 88-90. My lowest score was that 88, and I shot it at a tournament: that means, no mulligans, no repeating drives, no moving the ball, no gimmies, u know ;) so that was great.

That gives about as much information as me telling you I once hit a scorching on the run winner forehand.

Anyway I just started playing a few months ago. I'm pretty long, but as is common I'm sure just super inconsistent. Hit my irons straight most of the time, can hit them a lot farther than most I see, and yet it doesn't matter one bit:) Woods and up, have no idea where they are going haha.

I have only played a few rounds, but my best score was a 97 haha. Not so good.

While I was watching Lapennti play Wawisnka (sp) on a side court at the US Open, Sergio Garcia was right behind me in the stands. So I text some posters asking if they wanted me to get them an autograph.

This is what Drakulie wrote:

Drakulie: Tell him that golf is not a sport and show him this text message.

Made me laugh..

I've played in the same group with Dominik Hrbaty and Nick Bollettieri and another European pro... they suck... but a lot of ATP players(before)bring their golf clubs with them from tournament to tournament ...

Golf is my specialty. Ive been playing since I was 3. I'm about a 5 handicaper at most courses and will be playing in college next year.

I'd golf it it meant a chance at meeting Greg Norman; because then I might get to meet Chrissie.
But that's the only reason. Pure ulterior motive to meet Chrissie. ;)

I played a lot of tennis as a high schooler (#1 on a bad team), then took up golf in my college and professional life (20+ yrs). Plateaued at a 9 HCP.

Recently took up tennis again after not touching a racket since probably 1988. (I gave up tennis because I couldn't find anyone that played - it was frustrating).

I always had a "hitch" in my golf swing and couldn't figure out why - but recently when playing golf and tennis on the same day, I think I figured out that I use some of my tennis backswing on the golf swing - not a good thing.

I think I manipulate the club at impact the same way that I do a tennis racket - as well.

I think there are good things and bad things that transfer to tennis and golf swings (and vice versa). I wonder if I should give up on one sport or the other to avoid the frustration.

Now I live by some really nice hardtru courts and beautiful golf courses. I can find a tennis partner as well. I really have the best of both worlds/sports.

Enough rambling ---but was also interested in how others are able to handle playing both sports.

Used to play golf more than I do now. The last time I had a handicap it was about a 14. On a difficult course, I consider a sub-100 round satisfying, and a 90-95 good. On an average course, I'm usually around 90. I have never broken 80 for 18 holes but was once +1 at the turn.

Golf and tennis each require great concentration and have the ability to sweep everything else from your mind in intense moments. They're both great activities for gearheads and equipment fanatics. For the vast majority of players, consistency is more important than mechanics or athletic talent. Both sports are addictive because of the quest for wonderfully aimed, purely struck shot. There's nothing quite like seeing an amazing shot in your mind and then producing it. I prefer tennis because there are many, many more chances to make such shots and it's a MUCH better workout.

I like to golf, but have trouble justifying the time and expense. I've never obtained a formal handicap, but I think I'm around a 15 +/- a couple. Most of the time I shoot between 90 and 100. Occasionally I shoot 80's. I usually only get out about 5 times per year with the MN weather and should make more time for it. My strengths are my irons and chipping. Putting is a off or on thing. Driving is probably the weakest part of my game. I can hit it long sometimes, but many times I'm inconsistent. Usually have more trouble with the hook these days, although I do hit it straight quite often. Whereas I used to always slice when I was younger.

I was a 12 handicap at the age of 15, but I gave it up. I play every now and then in the summer, it just took up too much time back when I was younger.

and as you get older, you have even less time.. tennis is alot more convenient than golf.. spending hours on the range, a couple hours to half a day playing 9 or 18 holes.. too time consuming, especially if you want to really improve..

At one time I was a 6 h'cap. Now I'm around a 10.

Have owned every club brand known to man (so it seems) have 6 full sets in the basement (and That's Down from a year ago)!

Still do all my own clubwork as well as some for others.

Take a Golf Specific vacation every year to Phoenix. (20+ years)

Yea, I guess you could say I play golf...
