the best peak level? Other than Federer and Nadal, which (current) top 10 player is the best when they are "on fire"?

Soderling or Tsonga probably.

Their matches against Nadal at the major tournaments when they were on fire really stick in the memory.

umm its hard to say, the whole top 10 is pretty amazing at their peak. Besides simon/davydenko who plays a pretty consistent game but even then when they play better than normal they are hard to deal with.

I think i would give it to djokovic and murray and del potro.

Djokovic, there are only two people in the world right now he won't have more than a 50% chance of beating if he is playing his best tennis.

idk if hes in the top ten at the moment but cilic and del potro. Amazingly powerful when they are on fire

All signs point to Nalbandian.

+1. I believe he beat Djoko, Nadal, and Fed in a row to win a tournament, twice I think

Edit: He beat them in consecutive matches in Madrid 07 then beat Nadal and Fed in Paris the same year (and won both tournaments)

Definitely not Tsonga.

His Nadal slaughter in Australia was largely a product of the single greatest display of luck I have ever witnessed on a tennis court. Go back and rewatch that match. Tsonga's volleys are like 40% framers.

I think beating Djoko is more impressive than beating Roddick :)
(07 was also where Djoko won in Montreal against Federer and made the USO finals)

What about AO 08

Was he really "on fire" when he lost to Verdasco?

Since half the topic is avoiding part of the requirements ("which (current) top 10 player"), Safin is an obvious choice with his display at the Australian in 2005, and Nalbandian in the indoor season in 2007. Djokovic also showing up at the Australian in 2008.

08, he made it to the finals and lost to Djokovic. That was the only time hes really been on fire and while he did take out Nadal, he didn't take out any other notable player

In defense of Tsonga, he also took out Murray in the 1st round AO 08. Also took out an in form Youzhny, who was seeded 14, and Gasquet, who was seeded 8.

I'd also say last year in Paris was on form Tsonga, when he crushed my boy Blake and took out Nalbandian in the finals.

Hard courts: Del Potro or Djokovic
Clay: Djokovic
Grass: Roddick
Indoors: Djokovic or Murray

If we are talking about "current" ability as opposed to former it is pointless to even consider Safin or even probably Nalbandian.

Nalbandian, no one comes close
2007 end of the year sticks in my memory like a few other things

Strange how Tsonga always has these in form moments at the randomest of times. And then reverts back to his poor playing ways during the next tournament.
