Don't worry, it is right next to Interstate 4 if you need to make a quick getaway from the gunfire. Actually, it is just an older area of town. Many people I know go there often.

The tennis store is totally safe...I go there 1-2 times a week, and there are no issues. One of the girls who works there told me sometimes she bikes to work.
Interestingly enough there is a guy who lives right near there who was arrested for impersonating a cop. So if you get pulled over in that area, be careful..lol.
If you were to drive 2 miles east on the same road, you would end up in one of the nicest areas in Orlando. You will be fine.

A chapter meeting/hit at OTC would be cool actually.
One of the guys I play with in WP has just not gotten better. He is playing so lazy it does nothing for my game. I was just doing anything I wanted to the guy last night, and while that can be fun, it is not going to make me better. The best player there is always in high demand, so I probably get a couple hits in with him a week at most. He did watch for a bit during a water break and was real complimentary on how I'm progressing. I just like to play with better players whenever I can. Beating down weaker guys just makes you think you are better then you are.

The main reason I started playing down at OTC was for the better players. Before that, I played at Fort Gatlin but I improved to the point where I was the high demand player there. At OTC, I can lose to any of the guys down there on a given day but I can also beat almost anyone on a given day too.

11 clay, 5 hard. I can only book 1 court at a time. Other members could get more courts. There is a TT member who I see almost every weekend (not part of this thread yet) that could get a 2nd court. Problem is OTC closes at 2:30 on the weekends.

You just kind of have to show up and meet. I have hit with a few TT members at OTC and that is what we did. I have never had a problem getting a court around 6pm.
I wish OTC stayed open later on weekends..I usually hit around 4-5 on weekends, but it's no biggie.
Azalea update. 3 courts resurfaced and painted blue. I kind of like the look, but I want to play on them and see if it makes a difference.
Clay courts are being resurfaced now also.

OTC is usually not a problem in the evenings. If the clay courts are not available there are hard courts too. They don't have the greatest hard courts though. I wish they'd nuke those and put in some more clay courts.
I'm a fan of the blue courts. Much easier to see where the ball lands.
My neighborhood courts were just resurfaced and painted blue. I like the color. I had played on blue courts in Clearwater and suggested it to the HOA president. I think those who play in the neighborhood like them very much.

I never thought I'd change my toss after playing for 6 straight years, but if you can squeeze in an hour before your match to practice, try it. Hit the ball while it is still on the rise or just at the apex. You may find it works for you or maybe you'll hate it.

My opponent today was getting pissed when I would return his serves that were a foot out or less. He probably serves normally in the 100 MPH range. I don't care if somebody returns an out serve to me, it does not effect me in the least. He did rocket a few forehand returns at me on my out serves to him which created my counter argument.
Once our match was tight in the middle of the 3rd set he complained I was interrupting his rhythm. He made this complaint to me about a year ago, when he was losing. I hardly ever beat this guy, so I really believe he was just having a hard time with losing. He did claim he thinks about it every match, but does not bring it up.
Has anybody ever gone through this experience where you are afraid to return close serves? Nobody else has ever had this complaint with me and I brought this to my opponent's attention. I'd like to get the local take on this.

Yeah, that's the way my toss is right now. short toss and hit on the rise. I think the problem is I release the ball too early (below the eye level) and that I'm using my wrist to throw the ball instead of tossing it.
I've never had anyone complain about returning out serves. If the serve is out by a few inches, it's almost impossible to not hit the ball back. Someone of his caliber should know better than that.:?

Thanks for your take on it. I forgot to mention he was saying to just let it go and hit the back of the fence. When I do that, it almost always bounces back into the court and I have to retrieve it anyways, which seems like it would interrupt the server's rhythm too. I've had a few cases where I've just tried to "let it go" and it ends up being an ace because the ball lands in.

As a kid I was taught even in practice or an actual match go after the ball, play it till its out. Just habit of mine to play at the ball.

Yeah, there are people who get touchy with stuff like this, and Im one of them.... I find it distracting, if Im playing a match, even a friendly match, cause sometimes you "feel" right away that your serve is gonna go out, and it does go out, say, by a foot or so, and I sometimes find myself not ready for the return, cause I expect the call to be made. Ok maybe its my fault, but the thing is, when it gets really distracting is that the opponet might make the call at times and at other times not make it. Thats what really bothers me so I think its better to be consistent. If you saw it out, call it always, cause there will be that time late in the third when things are tight, and a close 2nd serve will probably bounce out by a little bit, and you will call it and all hells gonna break loose. Thats the problem, I think, so its better to call consistently, either call those balls out all the time or call them good all the time.

Hey another thing, anyone of you guys can vouch for the E Tennis store on Fairfax? I asked earlier, and I wanna reserve a racquet with them but would have to buy by phone, just dont feel that great about giving info through the phone, although Ive done it before, but with more known stores, such as Edwin Watts. Would you advice against it, or should I be not as concerned about that?

Had another odd situation today that did not involve me. After my match, 3 guys I know asked if one of us could play doubles. I had to leave but my opponent said he had time to play. My opponent knew 1 of the guys. We all talked for a few minutes and then somebody else came into the facility and one of the guys told my opponent he was no longer needed. The new 4th guy was not supposed to play these guys. Kind of a strange thing to do.
Played great again today. Only been broken 3 times in the last 5 sets.

I will also vouch for Etennis. They have hundreds of dollars from me in the past few months alone.
My serve is still shaky, but I am hitting a groove with this Radical now. It is a beast. I dropped my grip lower and am using a full continetal grip. I also HAVE to have the toss in the right spot, which is defintiley a source of the issue. But I had 4-5 screamers in a row that all stuck in the fence next to each other. I have not cracked serves like that since I was 14 so I know I am getting it back. It is just frustrating when you do that with 35 balls and then the next 15 are all garbage again..lol.
I like the new blue courts a lot. I could see the lines and the ball a lot clearer.
And as for serves...I call them out and let them go. It's not a huge deal though if someone else plays them. I try to never play a ball that is out, but it is tough when a groundstroke comes backhand side and lands an inch or 2 off the line.

Yeah Id like to see what you think. Most everyone I hit with says my entire overall game is a lot more consistent with this racquet. I definitley notice a difference. It's just nice to have one racquet and not have to switch. I don't even need an arm comfort one since the Rad is flexible.
The swingweight is high like how I leaded my apdc. You really can't switch out sticks once you get a high swingweight because your timing goes to hell.
Mikeler, thats a good point..calling lines is an art in itself. If they are humming in, sometimes you do have to hit them back. I try and not to if it all possible. I also say before the match, that anything close should just go to the hitter. I hate when you have that "it's close..im pretty sure its out.." etc conversation. It's better just to play on.
Mikeler, you played 3 sets? I played Robert on Sunday. He beat me. Started off good. Had him 5-2 in the first set and he came back and won 7-5. Lost the second 6-1. **** me off. I Wasnt playing terribly bad. I though Robert picked his game up and was serving strong. The second set we had some really long games but just could not get the big points. I seem to be in a little funk but thats ok, I just need to play through it.

Yep, I made it through 3 sets with no problem especially considering my opponent's game which is to get a lot of balls back. Had the first set been closer, we probably would have had to stop after 2.
I'm surprised Robert could beat you that bad. He must be improving or maybe my game just matches up better against him. I think my slump is officially over, just part of the natural tennis cycle.
You'll have to talk to Frankie about the Citrus. As long as you grab him in November you'll get in the draw. I'm probably not going to play unless my elbow gets better. I don't know if I can play 2 matches in a day with the pain like it is now.

I think I'm pretty good with calling balls out. I'll either give a verbal no or point the finger for anything close to the line. The issue is returning out balls on the first serve. The Code states something like you should not return serves that are "clearly out". For me, a serve within a foot or so is not "clearly out" especially when you play a guy with a pretty big serve.

Most of the time but that had nothing to do with our argument. It was simply about returning out first serves back to the server.

got to win the annual club tourney to get bragging rights for the year tho.
I only win maybe 10% of the time against the Champ. Ron knows him and I guess they talked this morning.

didn't know there was a rule about this but here's from the USTA rules.
28. Obvious faults. A player shall not put into play or hit over the net an obvious fault. To do so constitutes rudeness and may even be a form of gamesmanship. On the other hand, if a player does not call a serve fault and gives the opponent the benefit of a close call, the server is not entitled to replay the point.

I actually looked up this rule the first time it got brought to my attention. The point of disagreement is on the 2 words "obvious fault". Too bad it is not more specific like a serve that is more than X inches/feet out but then you would find players with tape measures in their bag!

I won today against a very good player. could've gone either way really. I took some off of the 1st serve and spun them in because I did not want to hit too many 2nd serves with the way my toss had been screwing up my game. overall I'm happy with the way I played and I think I'll be number 1 when the ranking gets updated next week yay!!!
