just kidding. it's the intramural tennis at school.

I hit with Tennis16 yesterday and my serve was still off. so I took mikeler's advice and showed up to my match 30 minutes early today to practice toss.

Good one! So have you played Coyfish?

Just don't share my toss trick with The Gator, I want to keep him in his slump so I can get a few wins. :) I told The Champ about it and he said that his results today trying it were encouraging. Me and my big mouth.

I actually looked up this rule the first time it got brought to my attention. The point of disagreement is on the 2 words "obvious fault". Too bad it is not more specific like a serve that is more than X inches/feet out but then you would find players with tape measures in their bag!

it appears that any return of serve hit across the net is "in" otherwise a bit of argument maybe forth coming.

I'm glad everything worked out for you.
Looking forward to hitting with you sometime in the near future.
Thanks. I can't wait for the first TWCFC meet.

If coyfish is who I think he is, then I just know his name through a mutual friend.

Don't worry I won't tell the gator a thing:p

Photoshop,
Congrats on the win. Must have been the workout I gave you on Sunday that helped you win ? haha ! Let me know when you want to hit again.

Thank you.
I don't have time to play until 2nd week of November, though. I think I'll practice my toss at home :D

I think you are dialing in on the problem. It did not get discussed, but I believe even the serves that are just a few inches out annoy him if they come back over the net to him.

Azalea is a mess right now. The did 3 courts which look nice (blue), and now are closing earlier due to this whole Frank vs Etennis thing. We have non members up here playiing for 3 hours, taking up courts and acting like clowns. Some guy was running around with a Walmart racquet and jean shorts being loud as possible for 3 straight hours while acting like all 3 courts were his. I think around 5 people almost beat him down before seeking out clay courts. Stuff like that happens because there is no official staff right now due to the drama. It is just too bad that the members have to suffer from this stuff.

I live a couple of miles from Sanlando. My team plays at the park, and I string for a shop just around the corner. Send me some info (age, level, etc.), and maybe I can help you set something up.

Hi BigMatt,
That is great. I will be there this weekend however I’m almost certain I will not have time to play on this trip. I should have time when I return the week of turkey day. That shop is about three miles from where I will be staying. Are you at the shop during the day or just pick up frames and string them elsewhere? Did you go the GSS symposium?
I will try and stop by the park and this new tennis shop while I'm there is weekend. Thanks

I guess you know John. I have trying to get down to his store.

What are the membership prices there?

I do pick-ups and drop-offs for the shop, and string them at my place. Quite nice people working there. They're trying to add more racquet lines now, but accounts are tough to get.
I'm proud to say I'm one of 3 people who've attended all 3 GSS Symposiums. Great stuff; hope you can make it some day.
I've known John since '87, when we strung at a tournament together. We're not beer-drinking buddies, but you have to respect his knowledge and background. He runs a great business.
I may have some free time Thanksgiving week, as I'm not planning on teaching as much then. Maybe we can hit some balls for awhile if schedules match.

Membership is not bad at all. Like $175 a year.

The courts are just in a state of flux right now due to nobody running them. So they have city workers out here doing it for now.

That's good to know. I have to renew my membership at OTC next week. The in City rate is around $195 and the out of City rate is around $245. Some guys I play with got together and split a family membership so they pay less than $100/year. Not sure how they got away with that.

No. I think I told you about this guy. I met him at Bay Hill playing doubles. He played a tremendous amount of junior and pro level tennis back in the day. He's trying to get back into hitting. Very strong strokes. We probably will not play a match but work on strokes, placement, etc. If we did play he would probably destroy me. He is in his early 40's.

You did mention him. Those are the slowest hard courts I've ever played on.

I didnt think these courts were particularly slow. I got a great work out in 1 1/2 hrs. Man, its still hot. So how did it go yesterday Mikeler?

Bad call, Azalea does not rent out ball machines. Wish they did.

I was up 5-2 in the 1st set and playing well when I hit the wall physically again. Won 2 more games the rest of the match. :(

My opponent last night has a ball machine that they let him keep down at OTC that he hardly ever uses. It is locked up, so you'd have to tell the staff his name and say you obtained his permission to use it.

Frank rules. He is stringing my Rad as we speak and will have it done same day. I definitley am going to tip him for this one.

I bought another Radical pro and should have it in by next week, so I won't have to get same day string jobs anymore.

Power, I saw on the other thread you went to the Nike Cage II's. This is the shoe I have been wearing for some time now. I really like the shoe. I burn through them in 6 months though - due to playing so much on hard courts. But I love the six month warranty. Basically get two pair of shoes for $90.00. If you just play clay, they will last 3x as long.

I found my last pair of these at the Nike Outlet on International Drive for $50.

Awesome..good to hear. 6 months is a long time for hardcourts, so I would be happy with that. I play around 12-14 hours a week, mainly on hardcourt. I have a semi wide foot, but the BCIIs just made the cut off.

Lemme know how they do. I've been buying the New Balance 515 shoes at the local big box store. They go about 2 months before my left little toe makes an appearance to say hello to the world. This last time I bought the warranty for $5. So that means I'll probably have a free pair of shoes arriving in another month since my current pair is a month old.

Actually I think the USTA tournaments are kind of expensive. Plus the sandbagging is a joke. Are the any singles tournaments at OTC ???
Hard courts are beating me up lately.

OTC has 1 or 2 very small tournaments during the year and then the big end of the year tournament which is the Citrus Classic. 64 man Open draw and 32 man Club draw.

Before I post this in the stringing section, let me get some thoughts from the locals. I'm running out of Gamma synthetic gut 16 which I've been using recently to help my elbow. My elbow is getting bad again and I was wondering if any of the softer strings out there are also CHEAP. Can't seem to find that combination.

I'm playing Heathrow. Like I was told by a senior of the tour when I questioned the dress code at the Heathrow the first time I played - "we dont care about any stinking dress code"

Really, they just dont like the sleeveless shirts and I guess cotton tee-shirts. I dont wear cotton tee shirts - so that doesnt bother me, but I do like the sleeveless especially when its 200 outside. I just dont wear the sleeveless shirts.

Actually, this is pretty standard for the tournaments held at the country clubs.

Whats the break in like on the Nike shoes? I played in them last night for too long for a first night. They are awesome..so much lighter and footwork is a lot easier for me compared to the Barricade IIs. After about 2 hours the shoes started to hurt a bit and my footwork got lazy. Hoping that is just a break in thing because I love these shoes.

Played this morning and had a great match with a 5.5 friend of mine. He had a D1 tennis scholarship. He has always bageled me but my backhand really was on fire today. Usually he kicks the ball way up to my backhand and doesn't stop the pressure.

Best match ive ever played even though I lost 4 and 4. Broke all 3 of my racquets (strings) in the process and he let me borrow his for the last game.

OK, thanks. I'm assuming the durability of these strings is not very good which is not a deal breaker since I string for myself.
