What is the BEST Bed you can buy-- Need a New bed and i am confused?

Ok my bed is about 18 years old and i need a new one. There are lots of good ones like Searle Posteurpedic, Memory foams ones. Which is most comfortable and best for tennis players ? thanks much in advance.
It doesn't make a bit of difference what bed you get - it's all in the mattress (and pillows).

What size of bed do you have (or plan to get) and are you willing to wait for the post-Christmas sales? I would go to Sears myself. If you wait you should be able to get a good quality mattress set, a foam overlay or feather pad, pillows, a duvet and bedding for under or about a thousand.

No, it is way too overpriced (even on sale). For $2500, you would be able to get the stuff I listed as well as a bed and room set. Don't spend more than you have to - just get a good mattress because that is what's important.

Looking for Queen or Full size bed. Sears tend to have cheap ones, don't they ? Quality there isn't that good from what i hear..
TempeurPedics have these Awsome memory foam mattresses but they cost more.....but they tell me they are the best in the market..

That one for $295 ?? No. I am going to use this for next 15 years so i need a good one. and those spring mattresses are awfull. If your partner moves, you can feel it and wake up. This one is little better though, i didn't know Sears had this one....

Okay, whatever. As long as you shop around and are happy. BTW...if you do have mites, you'll have to toss the old mattress, wash all the bedding, toss the pillows and poison (you get the good stuff from an exterminator) or alse they will just infect the new one. Mites tend to hide under carpets as well but the poison will zap 'em.
I would still wait until after the holiday though and it will be a few hundred dollars cheaper. You can buy new bedding with the savings.

Sears always has a huge sale in either January or February so you will save then. Also check out their Sears Outlet - they have the same merchandise but it is usually overstocked so they reduce the prices. You can buy the bed frame wherever although you may find something you like there as well.

There's different kinds of mattresses. The Simmons I have is awesome for me. But some people prefer firmer beds and other prefer softer beds.
I know Sealy and Simmons are two of the better standard coil mattress manufacturers and I have nothing but good things to say about it. The problems is in the names. One store will sell the same mattress and its called a Lincoln Plush Euro-top and the store a mile down the street will sell the same exact mattress but its a completly different name.
You really go to the store and lay in the things for 20 -30 minutes each. they all feel goo at first, but after 15 minutes or so you should be able to tell what you like or not.
Thres also Tempur and Sleep number that poeple relly like.
But if your back hurts maybe you need one of these.

I've posted about mattresses and toppers in another thread. Search for 'memory foam'. Sensus makes a very high quality and affordable memory foam product. The ideal is to visit a mattress factory that sells a variety of products. Latex and memory foam are considered highest quality and also the most comfortable. But a mattress is very personal, so you need to try a few and spend at least 5 mins/mattress at the store when trying them out.
I have a memory foam and absolutely love it. It has helped me a lot with back pain too.

Beware of memory foam. It traps heat. Newer versions attempt to rectify this with some aeration features.

I agree with this for Tempurpedic mattresses- especially the heat trapping issue - they get very hot IMO - There are more traditional mattresses that also use memory foam to a lesser amount that do not have this - ie. they are spring mattresses that also have memory foam. We recently bought a Sealys Hidden Meadow on a super sale at Macys and have been very happy. Be advised different stores sell the same mattress from the big brands with different names to try to make it hard for you to compare - Really you need to go to a store, try them all out and try to find a salesperson who is honest and knows what they are talking about (not the easiest thing to do) but we lucked out.

Too bad your budget is so low. I just bought a Stearns and Foster natural latex king bed and I love it. The fumes were gone in 48 hours, it was full shape within 4 hours of delivery, it's not 'hot' like some other latex mattresses (it is a bit warm, but I don't mind) and the support is fantastic. It is helping my back immensely.

Tempurpedic is quite possibly the single most comfortable mattress I've ever owned. It did have a smell initially but that went away after a couple of months.
As for the heat trapping issue, I have never heard this nor have I ever heard anyone that owns one mention it. As far as I'm concerned, it's a non-issue.
The only problem with a Tempurpedic mattress is when you go somewhere else to sleep, you realize how uncomfortable you are.

I tried a tempurpedic and absolutely did not like it, it felt like jelly to me. To each his own.
I've been sleeping on my latex mattress for just over month, I'm almost afraid to go away this weekend.
Another thing to consider: if you are going to buy a spring mattress, don't buy a pillow top. Buy a regular mattress that you can easily flip and rotate, and buy a seperate pillow top to put on top of it. This will help it last longer. I got that advice from a very dear friend who worked at Sleep Train for a few years while putting himself through uni.

I prefer memory foam. I've got a Tempurpedic pillow that I take for granted now.
I also had an off-brand but high quality mattress topper. It was 2" thick and really dense. You could put that on a stone floor and be OK.
BEWARE the cheap memory foam mattress toppers . . . they are too thin and not dense enough to do any good at all. You gotta get the real deal.

Yeah it was firm, but it was a 'sinky' firm. That probably doesn't make sense. It could just be the models available in that particular store, I tried 3 Tempurpedics I think. Anyway, the S&F that I ended up with was right next to it. I was in the store for a good 30 minutes moving along the entire row, to pick out 2 or 3 favorites, then I took my husband back with me and he picked out something completely different! That's how we ended up with the S&F, he chose it. I love it but latex is not for everyone.

Just buy a twin or a full, they are cheaper. There's no reason for you to buy a queen or king.

I got a mid ranged model tempupedic and it is pretty amazing. The lower end models are thinner and don't feel the same. Not as supportive. Maybe it does trap a little heat but is that really a bad thing. Its not like I'm baking in bed or something. On cold nights it keeps me nice and comfy. Once you get used to one of these things there in not turning back.

Ah, Studdom is a double edged sword. You'll need to burn that entire old bed set - but remember to take it out of your room first - and throw a bunch of poison around your bedroom as a previous poster suggested. While I've begun to learn about bedding (sheets, duvets, etc), I really know nothing about mattresses. I recently bought a super cheap queen, and it seem good enough. That said, I could sleep soundly on a pile of gravel so I'm not the best judge here. (Though I am suspectible to low back pain).
But can someone explain to me the concept behind these memory foam/temperpedic things? Why would one want a bad that 'remembered' how you slept instead of returning to its natural shape? I have visions of a sunken outline of a human body in the mattress, and can't how imagine how sleeping in that could be good for your back or anything else or comfortable in any way.
What am I not getting here?
Don't get a king size unless you have two girlfriends, an oversized house you need to fill up, or some other compelling reason. Do you want to be buying and washing king size bedding for the rest of your life? Even handling queen size bedding can be pain. A king bed is just too much bed and bedding in most cases.
Definitely do not get a twin. If you are single, and I suspect you are, get a full/double bed. It'll be roomy for you alone, and if you get lucky once in a while, it will do the job. A queen is an acceptable choice too -- and a must if you have a regular sleeping partner.
That's funny, because I can't stand the mattress smell at my local gas station.
Speaking of the top, can someone explain to me what these mattress or pillow tops are or why one needs them? Also, is this a somewhat newish trend, or were they always around and I somehow missed it?

We bought a http://http://www.restonic.com/ bed 20 years ago and have been very happy with it. It was an extra firm and came with a 20 year unlimited warrenty. At about the 16 year point we needed some work done on the box springs and all we had to do was find out who carried them in town an drop them off there to be fixed at the factory, came back as good as new. Best warrenty I've had on anything.
