I use this device and it is great. Whether or not it is worth it depends on how many times you will use it.

On a side note, it is not made by Gamma even though it is listed like that. ;)

I am planning to get one for xmas.
I think it's a nice tool to have especially if you are a strings maniac like me :)
btw, don't expect to read the real tension on the display.
the readout is a DT value (dynamic tension) that is more a measurement of the stiffness of the stringbed.
People who have if correct me if I am wrong.

Valjean that looks good too. I just bought the other one, its kind of expensive but I am sure I will get good use out of it. I wish I wasn't so tension sensitive, good thing I have my own stringer.

You' re right. But they have "table" which you can use to transfer DT to kg/lbs.
But I think it will be accurate within only one type a racket and same strings.
Correct me if I'm wrong.

Anyone use this? How is it and how does it work? Is it worth it?

Thanks,
Fletch

I use it quite frequently. There are 3 plastic clippers on the back of the device that you place on the racket. I try and place the top clipper on the 9th cross, towards the center. You press a button up front and the device calculates the DT. You need the DT as a base reference for a particular racket type, pattern and strings for stringing consistency. I find it very easy to use hence the price - worth it.

I use the ERT300 after every 2 or 3 sessions and I plot the DT readings on a chart to track how the DT curve looks for the life of the string on each racket. I also take a DT reading immediately after a brand new stringing, then let the racket sit overnight and take another one the next day to record the tension drop due to settling before I start playing with the new string job.

I think with the Eagnas one you have to tap the stringbed to generate the vibration manually, while with the ERT300 it provides its own vibration automatically. I don't know whether there'd be any consistency in tapping the stringbed manually or not. But I remember hearing from some poster who has both and he said the manual tapping on the Eagnas is no big deal, but he does prefer using the ERT300 for the ease of use.

the DT reading is all relative. I use it on some of my more demanding client's racquets. Every string, frame, head size, etc will give out a different DT and the chart is only a guideline.

After every string job i check the DT immediately after, i make sure that if i strung at the same tension, with same string, then DT should be the same. If its off then i know something is up (it usually is dead on =p).

It also is helpful for determining how much tension has dropped. It is also interesting as you can see that racquets drop tension significantly, a racquet strung at 60lbs within a week will drop considerably.
