That is one of the most absurd things I have ever seen from a sports figure. She really doesn't get it, nor is she sorry, nor does she even realize what she did wrong.
I can't believe she thinks that one bad call against Capriati stole the US Open title from her, or that Indian Wells was simply booing HER.

I feel Serena's pain for the multiple times shes been cheated and given bad calls in big matches. What I don't understand is her comparison between how she was treated and how the other two guys were treated. If it were fair, she would have been defaulted too. All said and done, she should have stayed calm and she deserved some type of punishment.

Wow. She is DELUSIONAL. First, she has the gall to point out the misconception in her fine; when one considers that, including endorsements, Serena is one of the highest paid athletes in the world right now, does she really expect anyone to give a rat's ass about $10k, especially when many were concerned that a fine was too light? Second, it is laughable that she believes that she has been wronged, and that she deserves an apology. Even if the call was wrong, does she believe that at all justifies her reaction? That takes some astounding arrogance. Third, her comparison to Tarango is pretty worthless. For starters, she apparently fails to grasp the simple economic concept of inflation that Jeff Tarango's fine of $63000 is close to $90,000 today. Also, she apparently missed that Tarango was also suspended from at least one GS tournament where as she was merely put on probation.
Well, I give her credit, though - at least she opted to play the sexism card rather than the race card. :lol:

This is ludicrous. For one thing, the fines she's referring to are from long ago, and tennis players did not make near as much then as they do now. The dollar was also worth a lot more back then. And no one in her camp threatened the judge, Serena did. She didn't get fined just for using the f word, she got fined for threatening the line judge. Could she try any harder to be a martyr? Jesus. She should be so ashamed of what she did that she couldn't even write this article. Instead she's accusing people of wronging her.

I think subconsciously Serena may have realized that Clijsters was playing a bit too strong, so she took the risk to step even closer to the line while serving.

The story is this. When Serena arrived on the court for the 2001 Final, the crowd almost unanimously started booing her. The booing continued and got louder as her family (father and sister) made their way to their seats.
I turned to ask the person next to me why everyone was booing. He gave two reasons: (1) the night before, just minutes before her semifinal match with Serena, Venus had withdrawn without an explanation; (2) Following that, there had been an article printed in the local paper examining past claims that Richard liked to fix the matches between his daughters. Add (1) and (2) and you get the booing.
The booing continued for the entire match, before and after each point. I did not boo. I actually felt sorry for Serena and cheered for her.
In retrospect, she and her family deserved the boos.

I never heard a single racial slur during the match. Neither did my friends who were sitting in the same section as Venus and her father.
Other Black players have been well received at IW. Serena is the only player (white or black) to have been booed by the crowd like that. No other Black player ever joined Serena's and Venus' boycott of IW, that is telling.
From what you posted, it was pretty clear what the people were thinking. Of course they did not shout racial slurs. It is more covert. I have also read many letter to the Editor of tennis magazines from people who had attended, and there was no consensus about whether the crowd was racist or not.
Other Black players do not matter. They are insignificant and bow down to the establishment. Female Black players are a different category. They bring out the hate in people, as is proven in the hate threads that pop up here regularly.
The newspaper article you refer to might itself have been fueled by racism.
A couple of days ago I saw a blog on tennis.com about Serena doing a cricket publicity event in the Barbados. The author suggested that Serena is now going to use a cricket bat to hit people.
Pretending that all is kosher is not going to help. You have to see all sides of the picture.
What i don't like about Serena is she blame on the IW organizers during the incidence in 2001. It was the fans that was out of control and the organizers had no control over them. In early 2009, the director(Erma Casey) try to reach out the william sisters, oppologize, and asking them them to comeback since they boycotted the tourney ever since. It was 8 years past and the sisters can't let it go. They act like they've been put in jail for 10 years and IW should owe them their lives. It wasn't the organizers fault, had they knew which fans is going to boo them, they would never let them enter the gate, but they have no control. The sisters should of accept the the invitation, they are not bigger than the sport, and it was embarrassing for Casey getting rejected by them.

The fans were not out of control. They weren't throwing things at Serena and her family. They were just booing. It was their right to boo. Just like it was the right of the crowd at the '99 French Open to boo.
The organizers (and I know a couple of them personally) never did anything because: (1) they thought the crowd had a right to boo; and (2) they were reluctant (I think) to take sides against the crowd, many of them long term patrons of the tournament. Palm Springs is a small town. They never would have heard the end of this. It might have caused some long term patrons to abandon the tournament. Knowing that, they erred on the side of the patrons.
In retrospect I think they were right. Given what Serena just did, I think it would have been a monumental mistake on the part of the organizers to defend her at the expense of the crowd.
