NFL Playoffs thread

Wow the refs really sucked and gave the game to the Cardinals. So many calls that they missed ("pass interference in the end zone by Fitzgerland that ended up being a touchdown, facemask on Rodgers on the last play of the game, ton of other crap calls)

Saints r@pe the Cardinals
Vikings beat Cowboys, close game
Colts beatdown the Ravens
Chargers upset by the Jets in a 4th quarter comeback

Agreed on all games

I'm pretty sure everyone outside of Minnesota wants to see Favre become the gunslinger and throw 4 INTs in a loss. I know I do.

I think Indy wins, SD wins, Dallas wins and NO wins.

both the games today were a total disappointment, but that's usually how it goes in the playoffs. thank god there were plenty of good college basketball games on!

Vikes are looking pretty tough today....as a MN fan, I am cautiously optimistic. I mean, after the missed field goal in '98 and 41-Donut in '00, it's tough to believe.

My 'Boys are sucking right now! I think both wade phillips and jason garrett need to be fired. Their coaching decisions and play-calling are what have cost them this game. Kudos to the vikings though, for they've played a hell of a game.

according to the talking heads, the games were supposed to be close . . . but they weren't. the one potential blowout was supposed to be bolts/jets . . . but it wasn't. and the bolts lost . . . which no one picked. funny weekend.

Damn I'm good, except for the close game prediction.

Vikings beat Saints
Jets beat Colts
you heard it hear first

It's pretty clear that this year, the Vikings are the best team.

I'm a huge Vikings fan but the Saints scare the life out of me- they are fast team and I just don't want to see the Vikings fall behind early otherwise it'll be hard to slow down their passing game.

The Vikings can win if:
(1) They can run the ball well and control the clock (keep Saints offense off the field)
(2) Score early and not fall behind.
(3) Get to Brees and not allow him to get comfortable in the pocket (as the did with Romo today)

It depends on which Vikings defense shows up in my mind. If Ray Edwards comes up as big as he did today, they've got a fighting chance. If it's the Vikings defense that we saw in Carolina and Arizona, it'll be a goner in the 3rd quarter.

Impressive win today over a red-hot team, though. Hopefully this carries through.

I am a Favre fan. I root for anyone my age playing a sport that physical. But I don't think they can win in New Orleans. Reggie Bush is playing good, Drew Brees is having a great post season. Saints over Vikings 34-24.

Never bet against freakin Payton Manning. The guy is at least top 2 of all time in his position. He gets the ball with any time left on the clock and the opposing team hates it. Sanchez has come to the end of a great run. A lot of pressure in the upcoming game, plus like Carrol said, he's not ready for the NFL.j/k Colts over Jets 24-10

My predictions..........and I am never right.

I think Minnesota exposed a bad Cowboys team (yes, I picked Dallas to win...), and Dallas exposed a bad Eagles team the week before...

Favre has his good days and bad days...It's easy at home when the fans are jacked up, but the atmosphere in NO is going to be UNREAL next week, and the Saints are light years better offensively than Dallas, and it's going to be a lot harder to slow that team down.

Sorry I disagree.... New Orleans hasnt played a defense as good as ours is. The Vikings have their share of "off "days but if they play like they did yesterdat- no way will they lose to the Saints. The advantage the Vikings have the most other teams have is that they know what to expect playing in a loud hostile enviornment. It won't be the shock that it is to most other teams.

Out of the four teams left I am pulling for Vikings. I Peterson is a beast, Favre has the playoff experience, and Jared Allen is just plain "badass!" BUT I give the edge to Brees in this one. I think Favre (one of my all time favs) will end up turning the ball over one too many times. Plus I think home field is worth 3 pts. minimum. Hey but I am pulling for the Vikings !!!!

its great matchups either way as long as jets aren't in it. Unless of course you are a jets fan.

YES, AS LONG AS THE JETS AREN'T IN IT.

And unfortunately, out of 32 teams, 32 teams, the Jets have walked into "enemy stadiums" and have beaten teams that 'Las Vegas' instilled as favorites back-to-back.

"Great matchup UNLESS?.... lemme guess, you're a Viking fan.

Well if you can look beyond your "10,000 Lakes" provincial mentality, me thinks that even though I don't think the Jets can pull off yet another impossible underdog win with a rookie QB--this time against the top-seeded Colts at Indy--at the same time, if I were a Vikings fan sauntering down to the Super Bowl IN MIAMI, I would be VERY LEERY of a "Jets vs. QB who 'bailed' on them" showdown in a city that's the Jets '2nd home' to being with.

Should "you" beat the Saints, you'll have your hands full with the (again, overwheming favorite) Indy Colts and the brilliant Peyton Manning.

At the same time....in Miami?......PRAY...yes, PRAY, you'll not be facing the Jets.

Jets shouldn't even be in the playoffs. Bogus wins over Indy who benched their starters and Cincy who wasn't trying in Weeks 16 & 17. Credit to them for what they've done in the playoffs, but if they somehow win the SB, they'd instantly become the worst team ever to win the SB.

^^^^^^^
Blame Indy and Cincy, not the Jets. Besides, Cincy had their chance AT HOME the following week (and were installed as the favorite) and the Jets--again--kicked their ass fair and square.

As for your "greatest team to lose the SB?" contention .... gee, do you then suppose they'd rather embrace some "who cares?" 'lofty & honorable' notion of being known as just another soon-to-be-forgotten "greatest team to lose the SB?" Frankly I don't think they care about your "instant" proclamations.

People post opinions, players post results. And thus far, the results speak for themselves. Don't deserve to be in the playoffs? Then "play" 'em out of the playoffs; simple as that.

I am more of a fan of players than I am for teams. Being that I am from Alabama, I get free range in the NFL. With that said, the Jets have no chance against Colts starters.

I'll join the chorus of people who are saying that this year's playoffs have been boring so far. Outside of the Cards/Pack game, just boring blowouts. Even the Jets game, which was close at the end, was anticlimatic and boring throughout.

Now I just hope the Vikings get their a$$es kicked for running up the score on the 'Boys. I hate the Cowboys and their fans, but even I see that was a classless thing for MIN to do. I hope the Saints beat them by 40 and send Favre into retirement for good.

In the AFC game, I really don't want Indy to win b/c of the stunt they pulled not going for 16-0 and the perfect season; but at the same time, I don't think the Jets are that good and deserve a spot in the SB.

So I'm hoping for a Colts-Saints SB, and hope the Saints take it and screw over Indy for sitting their starters and banking on the SB title.

Smarter move to bench starters keeps 1st string healthy and they already had won the AFC by 14 games, it's stupid to risk injuries for no reason.

They were winning the game. I could understand if they benched guys in the 1st Quarter, but when you're already that far into the game, to bench the guys is just ridiculous. Manning and Wayne didn't look like they liked it either.

They'll look awfully stupid if they wind up losing this week or in the SB; even if they win the SB they'll just be thinking 'what could have been'.

Manning takes the least sacks of any QB in the league. There was little chance of him getting injured. As is, they gave the Jets the game, and it might come back to bite them if the Jets win this week, seeing as how w/o that win the Jets would be sitting at home right now.

Yeah would've been great for history if they went perfect, maybe they just didn't see it as a priority. Would've been considered worse and a bigger 'choke' if they went perfect regular season then lost in playoffs.

I am SO tired of this argument. This isn't Pop Warner football - they weren't calling timeouts to try and score one more time, they were simply running one more play. Kind of like the Cowboys did the week before against the Eagles - should they have pulled their starters as well?

I do think that Chilly wanted to send a message after the past 2 weeks of "the Vikings can't beat the Cowboys, no way, no how," but the running up the score complaint is silly.

Why not kick a FG there? Or a running play? Just my opinion, you don't have to agree...but to me it shows how douch-ey Favre and Childress really are, to put up a meaningless TD like that. It was a classless thing to do, period.

Seriously- I've never heard such crying about running up the score before in my life. The Cowboys do it whenever they can to whovever they can. Its not the Vikings coaches job to stop them from scoring- its the Cowboys defense.

Please also explain how 3 pts isn't running up the score but the extra 4 pts is running up the score??? Give me a break.

These Cowboys fans are diseased. They think the world revolves around them and act like we've committed a crime against humanity. They should be more worried about their exposed defense and terrible offensive line and find a kicker who can actually kick the ball. They would run the score up at the first chance they got!

1. I'm not a Cowboys fan. I already said I hate the Cowboys and their fans.

2. As a football fan, watching that game I say it's poor sportsmanship at that point to pile on like that. It was a self serving thing for Favre and Childress to do and only showed how big of duches they really are.

3. I hope if Minnesota and Dallas play next year, Brooking sends Favre out on a stretcher and retires him for good. Maybe if we're lucky enough, someone on the Saints D can do it next week.

Don't say they weren't running up the score. They were. That's what they were doing by definition in that situation by going for a TD. It's extremely unsportsmanlike and just shows how big a jerk Favre and Childress are.

So would it be unsportsmanlike for me to hit for a winner when I'm up 5-0 in the second set? Or try and hit an ace on match point?

At what point do you define "running up the score" or "playing for show"? Regardless, if the Cowboys really had an issue with the Vikes going for it on 4th and 3 in the 4th quarter, they could have stopped them and the Vikes would have scored -0- points instead of possibly 3, or as they did, 7.

If they had called a timeout, I would agree. If they went over to the Cowboys bench and jawed at Wade Phillips or Jerry Jones, I would agree. Simply trying to score, however, is not in my mind running up the score. If it were the Cowboys doing it to the Vikes, I would have the same attitude toward it as I do now. I've given and received blowouts, and it's part of the game if you play long enough.

Play hard until the very end, its the playoffs. You lose you go home. Plus I didn't see the Cowboys defense quit trying.

Saints on the ground, saints on the ground, looking like fools cause the Vikes put them down!!! Turf in your mouth helmet turned sideways thinking you could rule that looking like a fool. Walking around town with your heads hung down, WHO DAT?!?!?! Saints on the ground, Saints on the ground looking like a fool cause the VIKES PUT EM DOWN!!!!!

As a huge Cowboys fan, I'm glad to see that even someone who hates the 'Boys sees what the vikings did as very unsportsmanlike and classless. You just don't throw for a TD on 4th down with less than 2 minutes to go in the game and up by 24 points - if that isn't unsportsmanlike and classless, I don't know what is. Surely that action has angered the football gods and they will punish favre (hopefully with a broken hip or something) and the vikes. Remember, the pats ran up the score on several teams 2 years ago and they wound up losing the SB - that was the football gods' way of punishing them for that bit of unsportsmanlike behavior.
