Dimitrov using a K90

Yes it's a BLX90 (the pj at least is). Wilson is preparing the after-Federer like they used Federer to prepare the after-Sampras.

Well, the PST90 was supposed to be the next Sampras racket going into '03. The ROK was supposed to be Federer's frame after the PS85. Federer preferred the PST90 mold (paintjobs and drill patterns not withstanding).....fastforward and now we're at the BLX.

Each brand does a lot of work trying to instill brand loyalty in young players. If they prefer a brand when they're young, they're more likely to stick with it.....

i have to say, it's great to see a top junior with such a classic racquet and a one handed backhand, when like 97% of the juniors are using two hands on the backhand, which is alot less nice to watch. :D

Dimitrov has such great footwork, a really sweet backhand, and that forehand is beastly. I'd love to see him make a showing at a pro tournament this year. :D

I'm definitely a dimitrov fan.

I wonder why he switched from Head to Wilson? Federer poser much? He doesn't have a stencil on the BLX either.

Yup he looks like a Federer poser. Just look at his game, he's trying to copy Federer's forehand and backhand motion, now he uses the same racquet as Federer. He probably uses the same hybrid setup as Fed.

what grip is he using on the forehand side, i coulda sworn he used a full western grip, but it looks like he switched to semi-western

His strokes are almost mirror images or Roger's but I have to say his movement is a bit cumbersome (he's slightly taller than Roger). Maybe as he gets stronger he'll develop more adept footwork but right now while I think he has a good chance of being pretty successful (top 10) on the pro tour at some point, I don't see him being the next Roger. Of course, his success will also depend on how good his competition so if they all suck then who knows heheh.

He even has Roger's former coach. I think He should also learn how to talk like Roger. With the "you know" and other tiks.

He still doesn't have the headband...but he did in some of last years matches and he doesn't have Nike as a sponsor.

He only needs a Nike contract now and throw on a bandana.

This guy has a great backhand though I don't know why he has to be "copying" Federer necessarily.

It isn't as if Fed invented the one hander (though if he is copying Fed, who better to imitate? Fed is classic).

but wasnt it federer who was copying sampras? everyone is going to copy someone in tennis until he comes into his true form then he will go his own way.

well, the blx does have a similar feel to the MG mid prestige he was using. not exactly the same, but not so far apart that he the frame would feel completely foreign.

I don't know about the head beam, but the wilson 17,5 one slices air alot better than let's say, the ag100. It's a noticable difference in feel of swing....

Maybe he prefers this? I know I would, this aspect is something that is found on some wide, yet thin beamed old frames!

what would be interesting is if dimitrov plays fed in wimbledon a few years from now and beats him...then becomes the next 'fed.'

because is important, different touch, feel , sweetspot, grip shape etc..

That's not exactly like that.
The pros don't use such thing as microgel or youtek. Their racquets are made of the purest graphite. The brand can put the feel and touch that the player desires.

The grip shape, almost every pro has their custom made handle that is mounted on the racquet by their customizer or even by the brand if the don't have one.

Keep following this section and you will learn all sorts of trickery about this subjects ;)

As I mentioned before my coach is friends with Dimitrov's dad.

Dimitrov used to use the TGK 237.1 but now he really switched to Wilson. It's not a paintjob.

Or actually it is a paintjob but there's a Wilson racquet under the paint

I saw him playing at the Bulgaria vs Monaco Davis Cup matches and he was using a Wilson BLX without PWS - most likely Wilson H19 or H22. Here's a video someone took from the match:

doesn't seem to have PWS though

It's hard to tell, but in this picture it sure looks like the racket has a pws.
The question is why he all of a sudden is wearing Nike...

I looked like PWS to me at first but then when I thought about it I figured out that the color scheme makes 3&9 stand out more. I don't know, it strange. on some pics it looks smooth like a normal racquet. On the pic I posted 9 o'clock seems smooth and 3 seems like it has pws. On the pic you posted it seems to be the other way around. Who knows, maybe they are blurring the racquets on purpose or something on TV so we can't tell if it's a PJ :p

The Bulgaria vs Monaco doubles match is running ATM. I'll look closely and try to see the racquet's neck. The 6.1s have pretty long necks

Yes, he does have a one hander so I guess you could say his one hander is like Fed's.....kinda.

But his forehand is not. They are similar in that the grip is at the very very outer limits of eastern. And both still hit the classic over the shoulder finish sometimes but, thats about it. Fed hits with an extreme laid back wrist making contact way out infront of him. He also uses forearm pronation when he hits the WWFH. It looks like Grigor uses more of the lever approach.

His backhand preperation might resemble Federer's a bit but the finish is totally different (there are only a few ways to hold a racquet), as for the forehands they are not even close, I am sure you have never seen Dimitrov play a match and an attacking jumping forehand looks about the same done by any player from what you saw on that slomo video so don't be too quick to assess his game. He was trying the racquet it doesn't mean he has switched to it, and his string setup is full poly.

This

Tennis is way nicer to watch when its a one hand backhand

He can't just be trying the racquet. He has a Wilson stencil on the string and is playing official matches with it. If he still had a contract with Head he wouldn't be allowed to endorse another company's racquet in an official match.

As for his forehand and backhand, his backhand certainly does resemble Federer's. His forehand seems more modern though, Fed's forehand is still kind of old-fashioned.

There's some kind of conspiracy going on here, Wilson & Nike always team up to produce the world #1 :p
