Can I use an N90 bumper on a K90.

I know the side grommets are different because of the cross string spacing, but would I be able to just use the N90 bumperguard on my K?

I have a bunch of them stocked up from when I played the Ncode, and figured if the mold was the same, and the main string spacing was the same the Ncode bumpers might fit.

Sure, I could get off my lazy ass, and cut the strings out of one of my frames, and pop off the bumper and try it and see if it fit.

But that would require actual effort.

From what I remember, no. Of the people I string for, one has a K90 and one a n90. I remember looking at the headguard and seeing the pattern being a little different.

Just looked at 2 frames, and it does look like the crosses that are in the bumper are farther apart in one frame than the other.

Pretty darned close though....

Federer's rackets have always been a top seller for the fake/clone merchants.
When he switched to the K90 from the N90, the makers first just changed the cosmetics and then when they produced molds for K90s, they just carried on using the grommet strips and bumper guard from the N90s.

The bumper strip for an N90 sticks out at the end when used on a K90, which is good as it helps spot the fakes.

Using the old grommet strips on a fake K90 means the string pattern near the PWS gets tighter rather than being evenly spaced.

I don't expect the drilling on fakes is particularly accurate but you may experience some problems around the PWS if you are using an Ncode set on a K90

That is what I would expect to be the case. Now I will have to order 2 sets to see what the reality is.

Ya, the Kevlar did in a bumper of mine, and I don't want to wait for the TW shipment to restring.

I'll post pics in a sec.

Really strange, I have never seen this before, will have to take more pics and see exactly what went horribly wrong.

I assume the Kevlar mains sawed through the plastic that holds the grommets together.

Jo11y,

If I remember correctly... the bumpers are pretty close, but don't quite fit starting at the l6 and r6 mains... due to the fact that the k90's are spaced slightly farther apart.

However, all is not lost... you can simply cut the bumper between the l5/l6 and r5/r6 and use the bumper as a "3 piece".

Also should have the same issue on the side throat grommets, I believe they have the same slight spacing issue.

FWIW... I've never seen a bumper collapse in on itself like your pic... did the kevlar and your 70# pull through the frame itself? I could see graphite fatigue happening after xxx restrings, especially at 70# tensions.

Strip the bumper off that imploded hoop pic and lets see under. For that matter, if you just need temporary band aid.... just cut the n90 that you need off the bumper and 'splice' in into the k90 spot that you need to replace.

Well...it sure felt funny for the last hour or so until the string broke, but I thought it was just because the bumper was coming undone.

Now I will have to cut the strings and look since you have gotten me all worried (Well, not too worried since Wilson will replace the frame for me).

Back in 10 mins with the results.

off the subject: i've always wondered what camera u use jo11y, ur pix are great :)

Well, it is certainly not due to any skill on my part, my buddy Dennis is the resident photography expert, I just point the durned thing and push the button a few times.

The camera for most of the new pics is a Casio EXFH 20. Absolutely awesome for sports pics/video. And I think the price has come down a bit since I bought it.

Man, looks like the string sawed through the grommet and into the graphite.

This racket appears to be toast. Time to pass it on to gentler-hitting players like myself. :)

Definite frame fatigue. So, with this one clearly down... time to restock with 19 new BLX :).... Just kidding, I prefer the k90 too. I think Wilson should take care of that one...

Jolly, i just bought this camera too, the high speed function is great.. to be honest, its the main reason i bought it, but its a nice camera overall.. do you use any particular setting for the photos, or do you just keep everything on auto with flash?

I just put it on macro mode, and usually turn the flash off.

Oh...wow...just looked again...the frame is baked. It is cut almost 1/2 way through the head.

I'll try to get a good pic.

Do I have excellent observation or what?

You will be dubbed Sir. Sam, the hawk, for your excellent vision.

Must be a stringer thing. I just hit the durned ball, where you are keenly aware of the frame.

Thanks to all, if you hadn't spoken up, I wouldn't have looked twice, and would have wasted money on a stringjob and bumper/grommet set.

I actually tried finding the macro mode since i have it on another camera, but couldnt, can you tell me where it is?

Right on the side of the lense, there is a button, the top of it says AEL the bottom is the little flower that means macro mode.

by the way, do you at all use rechargeable batteries.. its a minor gripe that it uses AA batteries

hmmm, maybe there is something to that recommended tension range thing... :)

Horsefeathers! I flexed out N90s stringing them with ALU rough at 58.

Plus the tension is only for the poly crosses, Kevlar is stupid, it doesn't know how tight it is lol.

YES!!! You absolutely must get Sanyo Eneloop batteries.

They are the best best best rechargeable batteries there are. No memory, massive charge, made to work in cameras and high demand electronics, and they don't care about heat or cold.

BEST money ever spent.

hey, at least you discovered this. otherwise, it might implode during your next match.

Which, admittedly would be really cool.

I mean, that has got to put some points on your man card, belting a forehand and caving the head of your racquet!!!

That would almost be as badass as when Pete served the ball clean through Rafter's racquet, blasting a hole in the stringjob.

So J, I hate to even mention this... but if I recall correctly you date stamp your frames from when they entered your rotation... next string breakage you may want to take a gander under the bumper of those frames entering the rotation prior to and just after this one...

I think we can officially call this broken frame action as "Shiver-ing Me Timbers"

Ya, I also keep a log of how many times I string each frame...if they are starting to all pack it in, they should start going quickly since I try to keep a similar # of stringjobs on each frame so that they don't flex out at different rates.

J

OK, now we have a significant difference between us racket and string wise.

I hit the paint of my rackets. You hit the racket of your rackets.
