You may have noticed Federer's new Nike shoes at the Australian Open this year. What you may not have noticed is that they are nothing but a paintjob. If you watch closely on changeovers you will see that they are really Adidas Stan Smith court shoes painted to resemble the latest from Nike.
As with his racquet, Federer has decided that he is simply too good to use modern equipment, it makes the game too easy for him. As with all the great players, they use the oldest equipment possible to prove that they really earn their victories. The new crop of young players are using bigger, more powerful frames to cheat so that they might have a chance to beat him. But no true professional would ever really use modern equipment, because that definitely would be cheating. Federer takes this to the limit by buying all of his equipment used at Goodwill stores and then spending the weekend painting them to look like current offerings from his sponsors.
Not only is he the greatest tennis player of all time, he is a master painter...a true Swiss maestro.
