Look at Roger's face after the loss to Birdy. He looks like he just swallowed 90 day old milk from his Cow from his farm. Doesn't look like a gracious loser to me. he looked like he was saying ""oh this guy doesn't even belong on the same court with me, how could i have lost to this Nobody ?"" :-?

To be an all time great you almost have to have that type of arrogance about you.

I think he was upset at himself for how bad he played, so that's why he looked disgusted.

I agree. He was upset he lost, not disgusted that he lost to Berdych.
God, this guy really can't catch a break.
Why don't you post faces of other players when they lose?! They ALL look unhappy, because they don't like to lose, and they live to win. Was he supposed to seem happy that he lost?

Federer's interview made it perfectly clear that he was unhappy with the way he'd played in the spring hard court season, and need to go back to the drawing board and figure things out. He said that he thought Berdych played well, but that he (Fed) had tried very hard to get back into the match, gave himself chances, and that Berdych almost let him get away with the win (he DID have match point against him). I mean, what is there to disagree with?

His subconscious fear of losing to Nadal seems to be stronger than I thought. It has played a major role in IW and in Miami now.

How long can Fed avoid confronting his fear?

He's mad at Nadal because Nadal stood him up on their standing date at RG, Wimbledon, and at the Australian Open. Fed's starting to feel really rejected, getting to finals only to see Nadal's stood him up again.

Come on, can't we just say he played terribly, was disappointed, and is going to practice and try to improve his game for the next tournament.

He's like the Australian cricket team when he loses, with his barbed compliments about the opponent playing out their skin and whatnot.

That was due to the manner in which he lost another match i.e. wasting oppertunities to make opponents believe they have a chance.

Maybe he was disgusted by his own performance?

I do think it's funny when he gets angry at incorrect challenges and says they're wrong.

disagree, Roger took a look at Birdy celebrating as he was walking up to the net for handshake. and Federer looked like "oh this sick twisted Birdy,,,how did i lose to this guy. this guy is lower than pond scum compared to me.." LOL

He was talking about football. tennis is a gentleman's game. you must portray a smiling good politically correct face after each loss to be a gentleman.

Fedace, I've seen plenty of pros lose and not smile when shaking hands.
But, I guess it's not a big deal til Federer does it, huh?

Oh, I must have missed Ferrer's smile when he lost to Rafa yesterday. I also missed Rafa's delighted grin when he lost to Ljubicic in IW - I guess I wasn't sitting close enough to see it? Did it look like the one he flashed Soderling at RG ... wait I missed that one too! I also missed Andy Murray's at the AO, although I did see him cry.

Come on. No one smiles on the court after a loss, with the exception of some of the women. We don't expect our champions to be happy they lost. I just expect them to accept the fact that they lost, move on, and come back stronger next time. By my standards, Federer did that, and said perfectly nice things about Berdych in his post-match interview.

He shanked so many balls I was expecting another racquet bashing.

He always has that smug face when he's upset haha
I mean he lost how many people smile and tell their opponent how pleased they were that they beat them?

Yeah like if u smiled after a loss... I don't think there is a player, pro or recreational, who smiles and looks happy after a loss.

Vic Braden's quote. If you lose but be happy and had fun, you are a winner. but if you lose and be sore and hating then you lost twice.

LOL I admit the lucky quote was poor sportsmanship. But you can't expect people to be happy with a loss, and that quote is rather incoherent

I guess all you Fed haters haven't seen Murray, Roddick, Soderling, and Djokovic after they lose to someone they think they should never lose to. They ALL do it. Nadal doesn't do it only because he looks like a child who lost his momma when he loses to someone he thinks he should beat (See Soderling, FO 2009). Of course, once they get to the microphone after the match, they all say different things in different ways, depending on their personalities.

Hitting a routine forehand that lands a foot out is not any serious player's idea of "fun".

it's good to see that at least this loss leaves an impression on him, let's hope he learns a lesson from it

don't know about that. if he is playing this bad on hard courts, what will happen when clay court season starts ??? lots of 1st or 2nd round loss,,,it seems like....

It was a gentleman's game until the arrival of Connors, McEnroe and Nastase... we live in a whole new world now or spoiled brats and people who feel entitled.

Don't get me wrong these are three of my favorite tennis players of all-time, I am just saying they brought something to the game that damaged it forever. The same way I feel about how Tiger has hurt golf... golf is suppose to be a gentleman's game where you would police yourself, when someone asks several people to move a large rock for you calling it a movable object had me losing all respect for him. Winning is not everything... winning on a fair and even playing field over you competition is everything. Where is the honor...? If this mindset was what was most important to everyone, and not your fear of losing... the NTRP system would not be the problem it is.

Guess Roger need to keep his mouth shut! He got exactly what he deserved and better hope not to see the Bird Man in a Slam.

Watching both matches, the Berdych match Fed would have beaten the Ferrer match Nadal.

Why should Fed have a big smile on his face when he lost a very close match? I saw the video. He did nothing out of the ordinary. Even if somebody is mad it only shows they care about the game.

What is wrong with you? Berdych IS an underachiever. Try to convince someone else that he’s an overachiever. Good luck, you are going to need it!

I felt kinda bad for Federer. He looked really down at the net. Where is the third option for "A champion that hates to lose"?

What the hell? He did look pretty sad after losing. What do you expect? It's completely normal and expected to be sad. Every other player on the tour would have feel sad. Showing any other type of emotion would have been completely fake.

That's just bs.
