If I were Nadal , I would not be pleased with my draw!

Here's my thinking: If you were arguably the best claycourter in the world, would you want to have an easy draw, or would you want to have a challenging draw that would allow you to silence critics if any. I know I would certainly want the latter especially knowing the kind of self belief Nadal has.

After last years FO loss to Sod, and all this talk abt vulnerability to flat hitters, if I were Nadal, I would want to have Sod and Gulbis in my draw and hand them a beatdown.

As a Nadal fan, I was looking for some retribution against Sodermeister! Might have to wait until next yr for that.

you have now given 10x as much thought to Rafa's draw as he has.

The only interesting thing regarding this draw is that for the first time in TW history everyone is agreeing the favorite has an easy draw.

I'm pretty sure he feels he would win anyway. If he doesn't, he shouldn't be playing.

You really think every pro thinks they have a realistic shot at winning? A touring pro might be happy that they can make a living playing a sport, doesn't mean they expect to win every event.

My belief is that Nadal couldn't care less what the public thinks about him. He wants to win every tournament he can, and is not concerned about proving that he's the best claycourter...everyone with any common sense already knows this despite losing last year. Nobody is perfect, and everybody loses.

hahahahahha sorry that's laughable.OF COURSE I and every tennis pro who actually has to make a living out of tennis, would rather have an easy draw and win a SLAM.

Earth to Kraggy: have you been watching Sod lately? He's crashing out here and there, including the most recent tournament in Nice...in fact it might be Sod's turn this year at the FO to hit the road home early! ...Sure wouldn't be surprised.

As I've noted before, he's not exactly The Second Coming.

Nadal doesn't care about the draw, the draw cares about nadal. :)

I think he doesn't give a hoot whether is it an easy draw or not he just wants to beat everyone and win it.

I think you are right. If every player he played in the draw were awarded 2 sets before the match started, Nadal would just go ahead and finish them off in 3 straight. It wouldn't make much difference, considering he has only been pushed to 5 sets once at Roland Garros (loss to Soderling '09). My point is that it probably does not matter to Nadal who is in his section of the draw.

But that's what I mean, since Nadal is good enough to beat everyone, wouldn't he want to beat the people who have given him a bit of trouble in the past vs people he beats 6-1,6-0 everytime.

Ummmm how about no....
He wants to win

Everyone wants to win. But if you were tested, force to play your heart out, the winning is much more satisfying. Not like a cake walk or knowing full well that you are going to win anyway. It's best if Rafa gets challenge, he will enjoy a lot more if he win. It's human nature. But unfortunately the easy draw will not maximize the elation if he win. No way.

Exactly the point I am trying to make.

Nadal has dangerous players in his half like:

Scary SF with Djokovic. Also possibly Ferrer, Verdasco, Almagro, Ferrero, Bellucci, Gonzo, Dolgopohingis, Lube, Hewitt, Kohlsomething, Monaco, Roddick.

Notice that I used the word EVERYTIME. Nadal is 2-1 vs Soderling on clay. He is 10-0 vs Verdasco. Statistically, which of these players is he more likely to hand a beatdown to?

notice that Soderling was 0-3 before they met in Paris last year and nobody expected him to win,I was expecting a beat down after Rafa destroyed Hewitt in the previous round
my point was you newer know what 'll happen
it cliche but it's true

Djokovic, yes, if he manages to get to the semis then he could be a big threat IMO. But everybody else on that list is pretty easy for Nadal. Of course Sod and Gulbis COULD also have been very easy for Nadal. But I'm sure there would be a 10% fear factor with these guys vs a 0% fear factor against someone like Verdasco.

Basically I think that players with big weapons are potentially capable of a higher peak than players without. Someone like a Berdych will on an average perform worse than Ferrer but their peak performance could be higher. And all it takes is 1 hot day to knock out a favorite.

Nadal was relieved to win over Gulbis last time they met. a beatdown is a wishful thinking from his fans.

It's funny how Murray had been in Nadal's half for the past 9 slams in a row but now at the FO he is not:rolleyes: Watch Murray in Nadal's half at Wimbledon, USO and AO:rolleyes: Of course.

I don't argue with that at all but my point is that the more data you have that supports a certain result, the more you would say it is likely. Again purely statistically, 10-0 is still more significant than 3-0. Also by now Nadal knows the game of any of the spaniards in and out. No surprises. But someone like Gulbis, Nadal probably would expect a few surprises.

The type of person that Nadal is , I think he cares more about the process than the results. If I have understood Nadal correctly, he cares more about improving than winning. So I would imagine he would want to test himself against a few flat hitters.

How many spaniard players you listed above?

It's dangerous if one of those spaniard player accidentally take a set out of rafa!
