Federer's new shot?

I'm sure he's done it before, but I don't recall seeing it. Actually, I'd say I can't recall seeing anyone do it.

It's the fakey drop shot to the slice approach. He did it against Luczak and 3-3 in the first set. It worked well and wrong-footed Luczak.

We'll see how often it tries it. Seems like a good way to keep the opponent guessing even more.

haha i loved that shot, whats next, fake a forehand inside out and go down the line :)

One other thing that makes it great is that it (and did in this instance) can result in a forehand slice winner!

Who gets those in today's men's game? Actually, who hits it as on offensive shot? Not too many guys.

It was just another example of his artistry and to me his willingness to evolve still.

the ones I remember seeing: Murray, Nishikori, Djokovic
I've seen it a few more times
it obviously isn't such a often used shot

He did it a few times in AO '09. I remember the commentators pretty much saying exactly what you said: 'I've never seen that shot before. Fed invented a new shot." - or something to that effect.

Haha I guess I'm an idiot too because I believed them. Not anymore though, Nishikori's was more extreme than any of Fed's that I saw, and it came before the AO '09, making him the obvious one true inventer of the shot, and messiah :)

Coria used that shot to great effect against Nadal way back when. It was in the final of either Rome or Monte Carlo, i can't remember which. It is a good tactic when your opponent starts reading your drop shot.

He started doing doing that in the clay court season last year. I think it was discussed in the Madrid final in 2009 and he used it quite a bit in the FO 2009. It's awesome (and arrogant)!

you don't have to be a "****" to appreciate this.

but if you're a Fed-hater, perhaps you could show what your idol can do.

That shot never gets old. But I found this you tube comment to be much more entertaining:

"There is nothing wrong with Roddick. At least he does not show disrespect like Andy Murray, who screams like a petulant schoolboy every time he scores a point. " Highest Rated Comments 36 thumbs up!

If I remember correctly, Federer used this shot in the 2008 monte carlo final vs Nadal, it was on match point, and fed didnt pull it off.

Thats the first time I remember seeing him do it.

How dare you?!

God created the world. Fed created tennis.

He was fortunate to learn tennis from the best players of his generation - Safin school of hardcourts, Nadal school of clay and Sampras school of grass. Now he can also learn from Nishikori's mastery of control, touch, feel, and deception. He does a good job of emulating the better players.

Murray tried this today in his match but didn't fool Chela and eventually lost the point ha
