Then, contribute to the thread and post some so I can add them to the OP.

why make a thread about it when you can just google them or look them up on the atptennis website? fail to try and start flames.

That's my point. This thread is completely useless because even with the information, it's still highly irrelevant. What's more important is records against a given player.

It depends on who he's playing... if playing Nadal, yes. If playing Roddick, no.

Then buzz off

*******, haha jk nice info didnt know roger was only 50%

I heard it mentioned when he was getting ready to play his 5th set against Haase... and thought it sounded pretty incredible to win such a high percentage of 5-set matches. I was also a bit surprised that Haase had won none of his 5-set matches. At that point, I wasn't too concerned for Nadal.

He's perhaps lucky to have beaten Falla (whose percentage I'm calculating right now)

**edit**

It shouldn't be surprising that Federer beat Falla in 5 sets based on his lack of experience and lower 5-set record percentage.

Its incredible how much Nadal is heads and tails above the rest. Certainly his unbelievable stamina plays a roll him dominating the 5th sets.

I only saw 12/15 for Roddick
I dont feel like adding it up again but I found this article. It shows both hewitt and roddicks records before the wimbledon match last year.

http://sports.espn.go.com/sports/tennis/wimbledon09/columns/story?columnist=garber_greg&id=4300458.

After this match, Roddicks record was 11-12. Since then he has played 5 more 5 setters. He lost 3: Isner at USO, Cilic in AO, and Federer at Wimbledon. He won 2: Fernando Gonzalez during the aussie and Niemen at RG. So 13-15.

What exactly is the point of this thread? Every pro player in the top 100 has a 5 set record.

why make a thread about it when you can just google them or look them up on the atptennis website? fail to try and start flames.

what the hell is wrong with these two?

yep, very true. BTW 2 of his 3 five set losses have come against fed ( miami 2005 and wim 2007 ) . He's won 3 against fed though ( rome 2006,wim 2008,ao 2009 )

His other 5-set loss was against ferrer if I am not wrong ....

here's an article about the worst 5-set match records in the open era from 2006
http://sports.espn.go.com/sports/tennis/wimbledon06/news/story?id=2505096

the worst is Markus Hipfl:
Davis Cup 1996: Kuerten 6-4 6-3 6-7(0) 6-7(5) 1-6
Roland Garros '99: Moya 6-3 6-1 4-6 2-6 4-6
Wimbledon '99: Rosset 4-6 7-5 6-3 3-6 2-6
Australian Open '00: Novak 3-6 6-4 3-6 7-5 2-6
Roland Garros '00: Arazi 3-6 6-3 7-5 2-6 1-6
Wimbledon '00: Di Pasquale 6-4 4-6 4-6 7-6(5) 1-6
Wimbledon '01: Huet 6-3 6-3 4-6 4-6 3-6
Roland Garros '02: Ogorodov 7-6(8 ) 1-6 6-2 5-7 7-9
Wimbledon '02: Thomann 1-6 6-7(3) 6-3 6-4 9-11

Blake tied him in 2006 but later improved his record to 4-13
Chela went 0-8 but is 5-8(38.5%) now

viduka0101

Gaston Gaudio is 6-15(26.31%)
all his 5-set match wins were at RG
one in 1999,2006,2007 and three in 2004 when he won it

I think it's a great idea. It helps you to predict when players go into 5 sets to see who might have the edge.

Querry 0-2? That's pretty interesting.

Djokovic stats are wrong!

from:http://tt.tennis-warehouse.com/showthread.php?t=178611
I´ve read some people say that Djokovic´s bad stamina and fitness would probably make him lose some matches if they had gone to 5 sets.
I think there´s a bit of a myth on that because he looks somewhat injured or showing pain after some rallies, breathing deep, asking for medical timeouts...
Even if I agree that he needs to work on his stamina and fitness the truth is that his record in matches that went to 5 sets is actually good.
It´s overall 7-3 and it was 3-0 last year, he has won the last 4 matches that went to 5 sets.
It´s usual on young unexperienced players to lose 5 sets matches but in his first year as a top player he won all of the 3 matches that went to 5 sets. So I think people need to stop assuming that he is going to lose some match if it goes to 5 sets. The truth is he is mentally strong and gaining experience so he is tough to beat in 5 sets too, that´s also what the stats say.
These are all the 5 sets matches of his career (starting with the most recent ones):

2007

US Open-2nd round: Djokovic d. Stepanek 6-7 7-6 5-7 7-5 7-6

Will re-check Djoker, too. It helps when you list them as well as it gives me something to compare against.

It's tedious sorting through lines of numbers from the ATP/Davis Cup website... that's why I'm counting on more eyes to help correct any errors :)

It would be great if they had an option to sort matches by # sets played.

**EDIT**

Djokovic is 10-5 (67%)

yep,I must have entered a wrong number or something

Did you count DC and any older MS1000 titles?

I'll double check it.

I didn't actually count his matches but I remember one commentator in his match against Haase that he's played 15 5-set matches and lost only 3(meaning he won 12 plus1 after the comment against Haase)

The statistics are abit missleading as Nadal has only played a handful of 5 setters compared to Hewitt and Sampras. The latter guys definitely have the best records.

Stats are stats. There is nothing misleading about them as the number of wins/losses is clearly stated right before the percentage.

If I left that detail out... then yes, the percentages would be misleading.

BTW, (17) 5-set matches, across multiple surfaces, is hardly a handful... Tsonga's 4/0 (100%) is a handful and I expect that he'll drop down below Nadal once he finally loses a 5-setter.

Interesting post! Now I understand why Federer said anything can happen in a 5 set match during AO '09, his 5 setters are nearly 50%. He should take a look at Nadal's stat and give him more credit.

Note the 5-set record of Rafa vs Mathieu :)

If it happens to go 5... you can pretty much count on a Rafa win

Pat Rafters 5 set record was very impressive. I cant seem to find it anywhere though.... I think he went something like 12 or 13 before losing his first one

Wait what 4 did Tsonga win? I remember the commentators talking about him never being in a 5 setter when he was playing Almagro at the Australian this year, so there was that match, the match with Djokovic, then Doglopov (sp?) at Wimbledon, what was the other one?
