An Open Plea to Geoff: PLEASE stop breaking my strings!!!!!

So my good pal Geoff and I took to the courts today at a bright and early 6:30am. After a short warm up we began to play points, but the fun was intererrupted on FOUR separate occasions when Geoff shredded the strings in my PS 90 frames with his blistering serves. Down to one frame, stood a shadow of my former self.  I did my best, but what if he breaks my last frame tomorrow morning?? Then what???

For the ultimate in string durability... I'd suggest you try the JollyRig™ ;-)

Good thing he is a phenomenal stringer, and could fix them right up for you.

Glad to hear you two are having some good hits. Looking forward to my next meet up with each of you.

On first read, it seems like Geoff is serving with your racquet. But then it seems equally likely that you are breaking your strings returning his serves.

I suggest you let all his serves go as aces ;-)

LOL! I guess you've been following those shenanigans eh.

I use full Mantis Power Poly. I hereby dub it the TennisRig. Wait, that sounds stupid...

I take great joy myself in breaking other peoples' strings when serving. Makes me feel good. :D

BHBH, you need to make it MN. I know I've appealed multiple times, but you are one of the forumites I would take great pleasure in meeting and hitting with.

The non-stringbreaker's club

I hit fairly hard and with decent spin and have yet to break the strings in a racquet.

Yeah, just remain on the sidelines for the most part :)

"Hard" and "with spin" is a question of perception.
Also, as BHBH suggested, the "enemy" also matters when it comes to string breaking.
If I play against big hitters, and we play points or practice, I will break strings much much faster than when playing against "placement and consistency" types, especially in matches.
It varies.

Drak!

I look forward to it as well.

Yes, Geoff and I are making it a regular thing now that he's a Nashvegan. It's great to have him on board (if he would just stop breaking my strings!) ;)

And true enough, no one better to do the restringing, but we are presently thwarted as his machine is packed away!!!

I utilized this very plan today on a number of points! ;) Worked like a charm too!!!!!!!!! Not a single string broken this morning. :) BHBH

Absolutely. On three separate occasions over the past 14 months I was scheduled to be in Minneapolis to speak, and on three separate occasions the trips were cancelled for one reason or another. I WILL eventually make it back. :) I really enjoyed hitting with Tony last time, and I'm sure we can make it to the courts as well. Best, BHBH

Yep. I break many more strings during practice sessions than matches, in part because I typically hit so many more balls in practice! :) BHBH

This is quite the comical thread about me causing string breaking! I am not exactly overpowering!

I have had the pleasure of some great early morning workouts with BHBH and other fellow Nash Vegans (Villains?). Latest start time to date has been 6:30am. No late nights for me!

It will be great to be in the house and have the stringing room set up. I am slightly backlogged on my stringing for BHBH! Belongings come out of storage a week from tomorrow.

BHBH...any chance that Geoff is using modified Luxilon for the BounceRig? Modified as is "pre-stressed" vs. pre-stretched? LOL
Sounds like mental warfare, maybe a mental health professional could help? lol

Brilliant! Why didn't I supsect this all along?? I suppose it's the only logical explanation. In the words of Jerry Seinfeld, "Newman!" ;) BHBH

Frame shank winner 100 percent closed racquet face hattori hanzo return is your only option.

Frame wrecker!

BHBH, I noticed that your rackets are 345 grams and 5 points head light. Is that unstrung and you got a bunch of bad Wilson frames, or is that the Asian version? I thought they weren't going to make those anymore.

Those are BLX 90s. Those specs are strung. BHBH uses only Tournagrip XL on a raw pallet. The removal of the leather grip allows for customization for his exact/preferred set up. Note: I perform all of the customization for him.

Explains a lot.

But only 1 overgrip? I find that uncomfortable... Maybe it's because I hold the racket from very far down, and the feeling of where the buttcap meets the handle isn't exactly comfortable.

Yes just one overgrip. BHBH likes the feeling of very defined bevhels. I have another friend who is a top ranked player in his section that likes the same feeling with his grips.

How do they deal with they feeling of the buttcap though? Do they just get used to it?

As Geoff pointed out these are US BLX 90's without leather grips custom matched to my preferred static weight, balance, and SW by Geoff. It's so nice to know EVERY frame plays identically, and they do. Geoff also is a world class stringer and every stringjob is precise and of the highest consistency. I owe Geoff a lot in helping me to maximize my game by keepin the axes in the best possible condition!!! BHBH

Hahaha! Hilarious! I laughed like forever after reading that!
BHBH, all that string breaking is Geoff's secret plan for you to pay him over and over for new stringjobs.

Update: Yet ANOTHER string job snapped today, but this time on a heavily spun cross court forehand from the string demolisher himself: Geoff! When will this madness end??  BHBH

This doesn't make sense really. Roddick has a bigger serve than your friend and I've never seen his opponents have to change their racquets often because of it. In fact most get through the match with the same one. The problem is probably with the racquet grommets.

Keep in mind that BHBH is a frequent string breaker and breaks strings in the middle of the string bed, but he is breaking strings after normal use for him. He hits heavy top spin off both sides. BHBH is very consistent as well. These factors obviously lead to his frequent string breaking. If he was breaking fresh string jobs then that would be a totally separate issue. To protect the frame integrity, bumper guards and grommets are replaced extremely frequently (every 2nd or 3rd string job).

Well, my 3 years old Tour 10 MP's still have the original grommets, and grommets will be the reason I'll switch probably, because they are not available for that frame.
I guess my frames are pretty "unprotected" then ... or is it a testament of how solidly made those grommets were when compared to the K 90 ones ???
Really, changing grommets every couple of string jobs seems rather excessive...but maybe it's just me.
