You back for another crack at the Champion, then? :)

Your team looks pretty good, do you get unlimited changes before the season starts? If not I might wait it out till a few days before it starts to see if there are any more big transfers or injuries in pre season.

The Champion? I was crap last season, my players were always injured. I'm predicting Bre is going to win this season because my team will be crap like always.

But I've always got FIFA to cling on to! ;)

And FIFA10, remember what happened last time we had a match? 6-1 if I recall, that was an absolute thrashing on my part, I don't think I've ever had my ass kicked that badly.

Breaker? Maybe, Man City are playing their own fantasy football so it would make sense for a Man City fan to take it :)

Was it 6-1? I thought it was 7 or 8 ;)

Yeah you can make unlimited changes before it starts, as of now I'm not happy having a rag on my team so that'll probably change.

do they have a la liga one of these?

No it's not.

And La Liga doesn't have one as well put together as this one.

With that line-up there's a big chance you'll be left behind almost immediately.
No Chelsea players? Have a look at their fixtures. One of either (or both) Lampard and Drogba, is a must.

The simple fact that there was a 25 point difference between the #2 and #3 spot in La Liga last season as opposed to a 25 point difference between the #8 spot and #1 spot in the Premier League makes this statement irrelevant.

I'll probably end up adding Lampard eventually but both of them are getting up there in age, only a matter of time before injuries start to creep in or their goal/assist output drops which would make the 25+ to get them both a bit of a waste.

Ok fair enough but these two players between them take the corners, free-kicks and the penalties. Even if they don't have a great game they can still get a goal or an assist off the set pieces.

As much of a dirty, bitter, ugly, baconfaced, lying, twisted, horrible old man he is: he's still probably the best manager in the world :)

By the way what will Chelsea's starting back 4 be? Assuming Cole stays will it be Ivanovic/Alex/Terry/Cole? Cause I was going to add a Chelsea defender and didn't know who to go with.

Yeah that's why I was going to pick Lampard, because Chelsea seem a get quite a few penalties and he's rarely sat on the bench - though Malouda started taking the corners for the last quarter of the season I believe.

Yeah, Ivanovic more than deserves his place after being the best right back in the Country last year. Carvalho looks like he will probably be sold, with Bruno Alves possibly coming in to compete with Alex.

As it stands at the moment it will be Ivanovic, Alex, Terry and Cole, but there could be a change.

As for Malouda, Lampard and Drogba.. with a limit of 3 players from a single club, they will be the 3 I go for. The numbers they put on the board last year was crazy, I think Lampard has been the single top scorer in every fantasy football i've done over the past 5 years. He consistently blows everyone else out the water with the goals and assists year in, year out.

Alright thanks, what'll happen with Bosingwa?

I dunno about the second bit, Fabregas was dominating everyone last year in goals and assists before getting injured - but with him leaving Frank should be the top scorer again yeah.

Bench probably, Ancelotti has always prefered Ivanovic. In one of his first games in charge last year at the Community Shield everyone was shocked to see the reserve centre back picked ahead of Bosingwa, especially after Bosingwa had such a great first season. I think he just prefers Ivanovic defensively, the fact he's also like a tank going forward is a nice bonus.

Interesting that apparently Chelsea went after Neymar with a pretty big bid. I thought Abrahmovic was keeping that change purse closed .

It's always pretty interesting with these Brazilian wonderkids, in Brazil where things are open they look amazing, and there's no doubting he has some serious skill in the locker. The thing that worries me though is how he would react to European football, particularly the physical, tactical and mental aspects. Take Robinho for example, he could of been so much more but his attitude wasn't there. I'm not saying Neymar would turn out the same way, but it's always an issue.

As for what Abramovich is thinking, who knows! :) Last year Ancelotti had Ballack, Lampard, Essien, Cole Mikel, Deco and Belletti to play in midfield, yet he still wanted to sign either Gattuso or Pirlo. Now he has lost half of his midfield and is left with just Mikel, Lampard and Essien and we aren't looking at midfielders? It's bizarre.

Yeah I watched some Santos games after Robinho went on loan there last year and he is an incredible talent. You're right about what could end up lacking because frankly the defending in that league is embarrassing :). Also apparently Robinho told him and other Brazillian kids such as Ganso to stay away from European football (particularly English.) because of the vastly different climate, having to defend every once in a while and generally having a higher work rate and fitting into a less 'free' system. It could be the reason the top Brazilians never come to England, Robinho being the biggest named one for a long while.

I think Robbie ended up learning his lesson in how the European system is dominating right now in the World Cup though!

I'm sure Roman will go after a midfielder before the window's over, because relying on an aging Lampard, Essein who'll get injured in 2 games, and Mikel isn't exactly something to fill a Chelsea supporter with confidence (though I'd welcome it, easier road to the title for City!).

Robinho is right, they have some fantastic players in Brazil but they aren't really suited to the Premier League. I suppose the good thing about paying around £20 Million for a wonderkid is that if it doesn't work out, he'll still be young enough for another top team to give him a chance so you would probably be able to get your money back.

I'll probably tinker with it between now and the start of the season,
but currently my team looks like this:

--------------------------Jaaskelainen-------------------------

-----------Figueroa----------Dunne------------Foley----------

Lampard---------------------Bale-------------N'Zogbia--------------Milner

-----------Drogba(c)--------Rodallega--------Defoe

subs: Robinson, Givet, Ferguson, S.Taylor

I've gone for the two cheapie goalie option. So will alternate depending on Blackburn's and Bolton's fixtures.
An interesting option might also be to pick a keeper from Chelsea until Cech returns from injury. Any ideas who will be in goal for them? I would have thought Hilario, but might there be a chance that Ancelotti will opt instead for Turnbull?

Even though he's expensive at 7.0 I've picked Richard Dunne in defense. He's always likely to come up with a goal and he seems to be a magnet for bonus points. The rest of the defenders I've gone for are cheapie types but they play for decentish teams so I'm thinking that hopefully they might not concede that many.

In the middle of the park I reckon Lampard is a must.
Bale and N'Zogbia are cheaper but should get a decent amount between them.
Aston Villa's opening fixtures don't look too demanding so Milner (will he still be at Villa at the start of the season?) should be amongst the points.

As for the forwards,
Chelsea should be on the scoresheet in GW1 against West Brom and their other early fixtures are not against any of the top teams, so I've gone with Drogba and it will probably be between him and Fat Frank for the captain's armband.
Rodallega is a good cheaper option and a solid enough goal scorer for Wigan, so looking at him to get me a few points, especially in their opener v Blackpool.
Defoe also looks a good bet to get a decent total this season.

-I would have liked to but for now I can't fit Rooney into my team.
-And will probably see how Arsenal does in their first few games before I commit to any of their players. I'm looking at either RvP or Fabregas. But it could well be that we might see the the latter in a Barca shirt before the start of the season.
-I'm also hearing that Robbie Keane might be off to Craven Cottage or to Villa Park. He looks very good value at a cost of only 5.5.

Spot on, I saw Neymar play in a friendly against my local side, NYRB, a few months ago. While MLS is similar in style to the Premier League (read: where athleticism, power and speed are more valued than technical ability), I could see that the kid had some talent. However, even though it was a friendly, he didn't play well at all and I was not blown away by his ability. Impressed? Slightly. Amazed? Not even close.

What I'm getting at is this: how many times are we going to hear of some Brazilian who won one or two meaningful tournaments being labeled the next best thing? The truth is, for every Ronaldo or Ronaldinho who has the ability to succeed in Europe, there's 20 "wonderkids" who win a youth tournament or who had one stellar season in the Brazilian Serie A as a 18-year old, are hyped up to be amazing, go to big clubs in Europe for obscene prices, completely fail, get loaned out, fail again, and within 7 or 8 seasons find themselves playing in horrendous places like the reserves of a bottom team in the Vietnamese third division (a bit of an exaggeration but still)? Is that what the game has turned into - a rush to get the youngsters in a league where each team fields 10 attackers and a keeper and the referee is out to punish any physical contact whatsoever? Nobody benefits from this - the South American club has it's reputation tarnished (thus less and less offers come in for their players), the European clubs he plays for don't benefit because they don't win anything, the player doesn't benefit because he doesn't come good on his potential, and nothing good ever comes out of it! How can we change this whole culture?

Also there is more emphasis on defenders and wingers in England, in terms of overall quality I'd say they're about even.

Note: Milner/Ireland could be switching clubs, which would make Ireland worth picking up and potentially a big point scorer whilst Milner would lose value with less opportunity and less of the play going through him at City.
