Roger’s BLX90

Finally got hold of Roger’s actual, match-used BLX90! I will, as usual, post as many close-up and comparison pics (with my Roger K90s and the retail K90s and BLX90s) as possible, and also weigh it of course. Feel free to ask me anything, I will do what I can as long as it doesn’t risk damaging the stick (you know my rules). Give me a bit of time to post the pics and respond to any queries as I will be tied up for much of next week, but I promise to get most of the pics up by next weekend. At this point, I also want to say thanks to posters like VGP, Yonie, JoelDali, Breakpoint, aimr75, Ericsson, TMCW140, drakulie, RFRF, Samster, Rabbit, MichaelChang, Jollyroger, Six.One.Tour.90FAN, Gino, Kenny022593 (where are you buddy?) and several others for making it worthwhile posting on these boards.....sorry about that, didn’t mean to make it sound like an awards thank you speech :) Anyway, will come back soon with more pics.

Wow lucky you! Thanks for sharing =)

Could you help us find out if it's really BLX by perhaps tapping on the racquet with a pen or something and compare that sound with K90? The difference maybe small though. But I think that's the safest way to determine if they are the same racquet.

Try going with the retail version of the BLX90 and compare it with this one. And by the way congrats! You actually got his signed, match-use racket! And by how I would ask?

Hey ericsson, the sticker only indicates the tension (I think) not the tournament where it was used, but I was told it was used at this year's Wimbledon.

Wimbledon ? That's a Great man ... Once Again Thanks for sharing the Pics. I'm always interested to see real gear & the nifty details ... Your collection is amazing - as amazing as your willingness to show us these pics. That's some class man.

Is there anyway to know if this one is from the Finals ? ( if it was strung on Monday ...probably quarters , what'd recon ? ) That'd make this even more interesting...

I'll tell you guys something there's no way Federer would put up an actual racket of his own because the actual racket he uses is not the one you can buy in the shops. I know this because I know the guy who was given your auction racket to string up and hit with to make it look used. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news hope you didn't pay too much.

Yeah, Roddick has no problem just tossing three of his racquets to the crowd, but Federer, who uses a racquet even closer to the retail version of the stick than Andy does has to switch them out before auctioning them off for charity.

To the poster of the above---How very, very sad. Were you trying to be funny or are you just a horse's arse?

Oh, and to Fabfed--thanks for sharing--very nice pick up.

As a suggetion, can you post thumbnail links to the pictures next time.

Those images completely skew the formatting of the thread.

If Fabfed obliges to the offer, I'd like to strip the raquet clean of all its paint and hardware to prove once and for all its a pre-proto type Tour 90, the same model that Sampras used for that very brief period, the legendary PT90 Type II that was never released to the public.

Who else noticed that the spec listing is on the black side? It should be on the red side

Sharp eyes....I was gonna point it out in a comparison pic with the retail stick...I think there was another thread with the P1 pics of Roger's sticks and the red side was also blank...

Sorry guys, don't think I will post any more pics on this thread, I'm way too disappointed, stayed up all night/early morning and this happens, I'm pretty sure Rafa's gonna win in straights tomorrow over Nole. Will just stash this stick away with the rest and move on, too painful :(

Man, you've got to be kidding. I am subscribed to this thread, waiting for your analysis and the answer to the most important question of all time - "is Fed's racket close to K90 or BLX90?"

They are #2 and #3 in the world. Fed had an off day. Nole took huge risks in the 5 and pulled the lucky one. It's normal. It happens. It is why they play the matches in the first place instead of just declaring the winner.

Nadal had the same experience last year. He won AO. His main rival won FO and Wimby. A hot young player beat him in the semis, and will beat his main rival in the final. Djokovic is winning the title the same way Del Potro did. )

In any case, Fed will be trying to win the USO next year. He is not retiring any time soon.

you sure it's not because you're as upset as I am? Maybe I should let you strip the racquet clean to prove your theory that it's actually the PT90 Type Two, seeing as it's pointless to keep it in it's current pj, increasingly likely BLX is a one hit wonder unlike the ncode and kfactor pjs :)

I'm kiddin', well at least half kiddin' as i am genuinely sad that Fed lost, but ya I will make some comparisons and post pics next week when I have time, I personally share BP's opinion that it's the K90...now I gotta get some sleep

Wow, did anyone notice the grommets on the bottom? Interesting design....

they are just leather power pads

Fabfed, thanks again for posting.. I wonder if the leather will bleed like the k90's youve got. I recall seeing pics of P1 having their own "P1" leather grips on the blx's

I am sad about the Fed loss too. But I found this post and I am feeling much better. Thank you for being willing to post more pics and make comparisons, I appreciate it!

Erm seth, pyrokid, max ply and meriko - you have over 2000 posts between you. Most of those are probably composed of ******** you think matters. You obviously have nothing better to do with your lives bar posting here otherwise why would you jump to someone's defense, whom you don't even know, over an item of theirs you haven't even seen?
Why attack someone else you don't know because they disagree with your misinformed information?

Hello Fabfed

BounceHitBounceHit and I were at the match and were quite devastated to say the least. Djokovic played great but nonethless that does not ease the pain. Thanks for all the posts of your impressive Federer collection. We have deemed you as the #1 ranked ******* in the world. Coming from the two oldest *******s in the world this is only with the utmost sincerity, envy and respect. Since everyone is asking for specs on the Fed frames I am curious to the size of the power pads used (height, length, width).

Thanks in advance

Hey Geoff, really cool that you and BounceHitBounceHit were there to watch the match, now if only he had won...

On the power pads, I have measured them somewhat but it's difficult to get the length and height accurately because of their position inside the throat and I don't have a measuring tape, but its about 5, 9, 8 mm (height, length, width).

Hey aimr75, I wondered about that too, I guess I will find out in about 5-6 months. I didn't store the first K90 that I got properly so that could be the reason why it bled through quite badly after a few months with the humidity and all, so I took better care for the other 2 racquets and they seem to be ok for now (the second K90 I acquired already had some bleed through when I got it).

On the issue of a comparison, I'm sorry but visually at least, the BLX90 looks the same as the K90, short of maybe play testing them or taking them out to be measured (both of which I'm not gonna do, we've been down that road, I've been referred to as a "little squirt" by poster corners in another thread for refusing to measure the racquets, but still no), I suppose we can't really tell. So here are some comparison pics, for what they are worth...
