Now will people finally STOP claiming that Nadal would have beaten Fed at the USOpen?

As if arguing on the internet wasn't dumb enough...now we're arguing HYPOTHETICAlS on internet!

There was a quote on the odds and ends forum which I loved:

"Arguing on the internet is like competing in the special olympics, regardless of who wins you're still ********." LOl! politically incorrect I know, but I'll make an exception in this case kuz I think it's hilarious :)

so ridiculous

What a pathetic statement.

Nadal won the 2010 US Open.

Federer did not make the final.

The end. [Trumpets & fanfare].

We can't really say that today proves Federer would have won back in August.

Of course not. However.....

What we CAN say, however, is that the claims that Federer wouldn't have had a chance to win and that he was lucky to have lost in the semi (so as to avoid a devastating loss) were false.

....we can say that this is to rational for this type of thread so therefore the proper thing to say is: "Boo Yaaaaaaa! *********s!. Nadal soooo would have lost and the YEC PROVES it! Take that!

All the *********s that claimed that Nadal would have definitely beaten Federer in this year's US Open final now need to keep quiet and go hide under a rock. :)

It's just a shame that Djokovic got so lucky on those two wild swings that landed in on those two match points in the semis or else Nadal will still be without the US Open trophy and his career Slam, and Federer would still own Nadal on hardcourts. :(

This is the best post I've seen since Fedfab posted pics of his BLX90

It's too bad Murray didn't play Nadal in the semi. Nadal would have needed 5 hours if at all to beat him. Then Fed wouldn't worry so much about having to finish his own match quick and he wouldn't have given up in those two sets against Djoko. A focused Fed would have won in 4 or maybe even 3 sets. Basically Nadal needs to give Wawrinka a really nice Xmas gift. His win over Murray gifted Nadal the slam.

We'll never know what would have happened if Federer played Nadal in this year's US Open final. If Federer played his best hard court tennis it would probably be too much for Nadal, but we all know that Fed can unleash the very best mental midgetry when he has to play Humbalito :)

Hopefully this can be laid to rest next year when they face off in the US Open final!

'Humbalito". lol

Federer can thank Nadal's knee injuries for his French Open win :)
Nope. He can thank Soderling for taking out a healthy Nadal. Just like Nadal can thank Soderling for taking out a healthy Federer for his French Open title this year. This guy Soderling gets a lot of appreciation on the tour. :)

Wow, wow. Easy there buddy, some respect for the Sodman alright! He beat both you ****s @$$ up one side and another. Even Nadal could not stop him, and made Roger look like he did not even belong there LOL

Nadal was playing much better, it's 5 set matches (if you hadn't noticed Federer didn't do very well in 5 set matches tournament this year after AO), and the proof is in the pudding, Federer wasn't good enough to get to the finals, everything else is just speculation, and this thread is a clear troll attempt by the biggest troll on this boards.
Since when has Nadal been good enough to get to the finals of the US Open? Remind me how many times Nadal has made it to the finals of the US Open again? And do you know how many times Federer has made it to the finals of the US Open. So clearly Nadal is "good enough" to make the finals of the US Open while Federer isn't, right? :???:

Oh, and did Nadal have to face Federer or Del Potro or Soderling or Murray or Roddick to get to his only US Open final? Um....that would be NO!

LOL, true! But let's not get too far ahead ... it's an important event but it ain't anywhere close to the importance of a slam. We'll see what happens when they play each other at a slam. If I had a lot of money, there's no question who my money will be on :)

The last I checked, Nadal skipped the Paris Masters to rest because he REALLY, REALLY wanted to win this WTF title for the first time, as much as he wanted to finally win his first US Open title this year.

Yeah, but he didn't have to spend it in the same currency. It makes a lot of difference.

Also, tennis careers are short. I don't know how much he is making now in his non-playing career.

Federer should have never been in a position to lose to Djokovic in the first place. Djokovic didn't win because of luck. That's ridiculous. Nadal played better throughout this year's US Open and likely would have beaten Federer. If Federer can't beat Djokovic, traditionally his GS whipping boy, then what chance would he have against a more powerful Nadal?

Federer last week > Federer at the US Open this year.

You must not have seen all 5 of Federer's matches in their entirety leading up to the semis at the US Open then. He looked absolutely unstoppable. I think he looked as good or better than at this WTF. He just happened to have a hiccup in the semis against Djokovic. It happens even to greats like Federer.

All 5? Why even mention the first few chumps he played. Soderling didn't look that impressive to me, and in the end he still lost to Djokovic, right? No hiccups at the WTF. I haven't seen Federer be so confident and aggressive in years. He was deadly off both wings.

He played a more impressive lineup at the WTF than at the US Open and walked away with the trophy only dropping one set. He decimated the same guy who beat him at the US Open, so how you can say he played better at the US Open is bizarre.

Breakpoint ,i ( as a fed fan )think this thread is basically a troll thread.Nadal was a different animal at the us open (remember his serve?) i didnt see any of that serve in the final yesterday . He was playing like he always does and it was working great in the second set ,i was getting pissed and getting ready to quit watching .Then fed came out firing again and taking the initiative and we see what happens when fed brings HIS game .
Anyhoodley, this match yesterday has no bearing on what "couldve been" but i do agree nadal fans shouldnt say fed was scared to play him(at the Open) or anything like that .

I wouldn't expect you to know anything about Mensa.

Don't you get into Mensa by doing well on IQ tests? IQ tests basically just measure how good you are at taking IQ tests. I don't care if someone is in a group that accepts members based on flawed measures of intelligence.

I'm also pretty sure that Mensa members are just kind of sad and insecure in general, because all you're basically doing is paying fees to 'prove' that you're smarter than everyone else. If a person was actually smart, he/she wouldn't care about being in a group like Mensa.

Seems kind of asinine if you ask me.

IQ tests may have faults, but they are statistically proven to measure intelligence. Whether they should be used is another matter, because of certain historical reasons I don't want to get into.

There are several startups and even larger companies who in effect administer IQ tests without calling them that way. They give specific problems to get the people who have high IQ. It is not an IQ test which can cause legal issues, but specific problems in the applicant's field of knowledge which cannot be solved by just having studied the subjects in college. At the same time, they don't need higher studies either. It is like some of the SAT subject test or AP questions - you know all you need to know yet cannot solve the problem.

As far as forming a club goes, it is up to them. As long as it is not a secret society conspiring against the common good, it is OK. Like chess clubs or software clubs.

I think there's a big difference between the two situations (and so do you).

I'm a Fed fan and I was worried for him if he came up against Nadal in the US Open final. Of course anythings possible but having seen him play nearly all of his post-Wimby matches, it looked to me that the transformation wasn't yet complete in Federer's game and he was still a little shakey at the US Open. Nadal on the other hand looked fresh and on fire.
At the WTF I had a lot of confidence in Fed and was hoping he'd meet Nadal. This time Fed was on fire and Nadal wasn't looking his best throughout the tournament.
Also, you can't ignore the indoor factor, Fed had beaten Nadal twice before at the year ending championships, and Nadal traditionally seems to suck a bit during the indoor season.

That's exactly why I didn't join even though I qualified. :)

Oh, and IQ tests measure how smart you are in figuring things out, not how good you are at taking tests. That's what you already do in school.

I don't like joining issues in contentious matters but I just have to say this.

The Fed of the WTF final is NOT the same Fed of the 2010 USO SF. Truth is, WTF Final Fed beat Nadal handily. I am not sure USO SF Fed would have beaten Nadal in that form and with history beckoning.

WE WILL NEVER KNOW SO PLEASE LET'S STOP THESE MEANINGLESS THREADS.

BTW, I'm a realistic Fed fan IMHO.

Why is everyone saying ^^ this is now true / confirmed / etc.

It was always true.

A. Fed was in a position to win. The wild swings landed in, you don't get in a position to win (2 match points) and rely on your opponent landing those to give you the loss you want.

B. Suggesting a player loses in a GS Semi to avoid someone in the final is simply ludicrous to begin with.

Even if you have great IQ...doesn't mean you are smart...Intelligence is far
more broad and diverse than simple brain tests. A person can have an 170 iq
but can be the dumbest person on the street and can get shot in the head! Logic and understanding of the world is better than IQ. Not saying you lack that...but don't need to prove anything to another person. Defintly saying that you are in Mensa mean squat to be honest! Potential and willingness to improve is far better...flashing genius or trophies are for people with something stuck up their arse! Not saying that is you...but please refrain from making anyone think of that....

So why didnt Nadal face Federer at USO final this year?. Could it be because Federer wasnt good enough (at this USO) to make it to final?

Federer has Won AUS open 3 times (now 4) before Nadal beat him (and Nadal hasnt won before). Per your logic Federer should have beat Nadal ??

Following this logic Federer should have beaten Soderling at QF French since he was 12:0 (I think) against him. I think there's a first time for everything.
