Hey Everyone... Another DC area poster here (Arlington to be more specific).

I'm sure this has been discussed before but I thought it was time to revisit this topic.

Where do you guys get your rackets restrung? I've gone to both the tennis factory in Arlington and Drilling in DC.

Has anyone been to this guy called the "string guru" in falls church?

I usually find local players that string. Much cheaper and usually just as good as anything you'll find at Drilling or the Factory.

You might be able to find a few stringers on craigs list or if you play a lot in this area, just ask other players where they get their sticks strung and you'll get a few recommendations.

Word for the wise - never take up sappys offer to string your rackets or to hand your rackets to someone else to string ;)

i do my own stringing but for someone like you a couple of us have string machines so i am sure one of us can help you out. there is also a new tennis shop in dc. google tennis zone. its on wisconsin ave towards georgetown. very nice place and the owner is superb. his name is Ravi. tell him i send you there :)

Also, if you would like to dump your old frames there are plenty of guys here in need of new racquets to try out.

I started doing my own because thhere was nobody in harford county to do it. Used to go to Hollerbird and get it done but they started going downhill in the quality of the jobs.

Maybe that guy is legit. If he has to calibrate before everystring job he probably needs a new machine. But he probably menas he checks to make sure it accurate. I guess you never knwo until you try.

schap02 strings for me. he's always spot on.

sup2dresq has strung in the past - but i think he's stopped stringing. also great.

sapient007 is not known for his stringing abilities. or tennis abilities really. he does own a very nice babolat 5 star i think but he doesn't know how to use it. his claim to fame is his ability to hand pull an entire string job. guaranteed at least 15 pounds of tension and maybe 20 pounds if he had a good lunch.

it's actually a babolat II and i calibrate my machine as well as oil and lube every job.. thank you very much.

emr82: contact me, it's $7 for a string job and if you are not satisfied by the string job after you are done, you can then pay me an extra $3 to get the $10 string job on CL.

For the craigslist guy, sometime you just have to try to find out.

As for sappy/sapient - He posts in this forum. It's sort of an inside joke (he bought an expensive stringer but doesn't use it). See tennismonkey's post above.

side story. drakulie emailed me a while back asking me how the stringer worked because he was looking to get a similar one. i might of email him something back but i'm sure i lol-ed all the way while drafting that message.

I just logged into Tennislink and after trying to find where to join a league. This site sucks by the way. I go to player search and check my name and says I'm rated 4.0. This really sucks. I don't understand the system at all. I went 4-1 in a Mixed dubs league and thats all I played last year. I have not played in so long theres no way I can hold up to that standard. I may be the worst 4.0 in the USA right now. Tennislink really sucks I don't why I hate that site so much but I do. Why is there an ad to join USAT after I log in when Im joined till 2013? Tennis link must have been a site that was built by Magilla Gorilla while he humpin grape ape.

I guess I get to update my Math though.

5.0 Serve+3.5 forehand+2.5backhand+2.0mobility+1.0 volleys=4.0

I guess those 3.5 trophies I never won would have just been paperweights now.

I should probably practice a little before the 8.0 mixed league starts.

If I was in my form from a couple years ago I couldnt complain. And Im still possibly decent 4.0 level in dubs where I dont have to hit many backhands.

But Its just funny that the year i was like 20-1 at 3.5 singles I didnt get bumped, then the year I barely play at all I have moderate success and get bumped. If I played a 4.0 in singles right now though Id be lucky to win two games. Summer of 07-08 I would have liked my chances even though my Backhand is 5 times better my serve is 5 time worse. I just cant generate the spin to get as much kick. Granted I still more kick get than most. But no way can pump that 127 blast like I did at wakefield that day when TFM lost the bet and actually paid :)

What do you mean auzzie by scampering. Whats shrimp have to with tennis? I dont even like shirmp scampering.

I actually ahd hash brown casserole sauage patty biscuit and fried apples for lunch today. without old bay.

Im not playing tennis tonigh but I will be playing disc gold later tonight. Hopefully I have enough layers to keep warm.

We have hit in worse dude thats for sure.

And that scampering you refer to is just me getting tired and just trying to hit a bomb somehwere to end the point. Some times it works in my favor most of the time it doesnt.

Actually alot of the time in 3.5 it did so maybe thats why I got moved up.

It really dont matter to me I got moved up though. I guess if I was playing alot still it may be tougher to get on a team that wanted to win, but who wants to be on tose teams anyways :)

hollywood - i hear you gots a big serve and big forehand and a big loving for MSG. we should hit sometime when it warms up to 30 degrees or so. at below freezing - your serve will probably blow my knees clean off.

anyone recommend me a durable multi -- my frame of reference is maxim touch. as in show me on this racquet where the maxim touched you.

The serve is gone dude. DATS will attest. But I was hurting then also so maybe I still have some remnat of it somewhere. I guess Ill when this winter 8.0 mixed starts.

As for MSG I know the Knicks and maybe the Rangers (NHL) play there but I have never been so I wouldnt know if I loved or not.

I dont know nothing about Where the Maxim touched me but I didnt like it as I like X-1 biphase. Biphase seems to last a tad longer than the Maxim did for me when I used it in a full bed. But for some erason the Maxim lasted longer in the hybrids. wierd I know but then again I put the multi in the mains in hybrids so the poly eats through it pretty fast.

Also if your ever in Middletown PA theres is a Giant (grocery store) that has the best sweet and sour chicken around.

i agree that x-1 biphase is a superior string. but it's $16. maxim touch is $7. i'd want x-1 to play twice as good and last twice as long but it doesn't.

i should have prefaced. i want the cheapest, best multi $7 or less can get me. as long as it's not over $7 -- money is no object.

best sweet and sour chicken huh? i'll take your word for it but typically i like to stick my head up the butcher's azz rather than take his word that a cut of meat is good.

Why do you think I play mixed dubs?

Its scientificly proven that 54.371835692 percent of all female atheletes are lesbian or bi. Now the WNBA which is 87.937183645 percent scews the numbers a tad, but there are plenty of them other female sports as well.

Also I was watching bowling sunday and this dude won the title hugged his mom and dad and some toher dude the announcer referred to as a "friend" who was standing besides his dad. This guy was 30 year old lawyer so had plenty of time to crush some chics but was huggin on some dude. There were 5 bowlers on the TV show and that guys was flamer so I guess 20% of all pro bowlers are flamers as well. Ain't science great

Very rarely do they wear a thong. Plus its hard to say becuase Pro wrestling is a Big Spectacle for entertainment purposes. So even they seemed like flamers it is ofr entertainment and cant be taken seriously.

Thats like saying those dudes from brokeback were flamers just becasue the movie was about flamin cowboys. Or that Zed and that other guy in Pulp fiction butt bangin Marcellus Wallace before bruce willis hacks em up with a samurai sword were gay becuase they were butt bangin marcellus wallace in a movie before bruce willis came in and hacked them up with a samurai sword. So unless you see them in real life kissin on dudes at awards ceremonies you cant tell.

JRstriker -- i believe in Superman II lois lane was surprised the fortress of solitude was warm. plus you know that Sup2dresq is not really superman. i've seen all of the superman movies and Sup is too short to be superman. plus the existence of santa claus or the easter bunny is more plausible than an illegal alien with superhuman powers running around in skintight leotard outfit.

I used the same photography tricks Jrs used.

1) stand closer to camera than other persons in shots.
2) stand only next to short asians who slunch over. In fact Ppl plays all the villians in Sup II

p.s i swung by the local asian sweat shop to say hello to PPL during lunch, and to pick up a gucci hat for $2 knitted with real panda fur..

anyhow, i think i spot topaz working there as well so i'm thinking sup has now sold 2 TWMAC members to the said sweat shop. and it also answers why there's such a void of reason in this thread as of late
