So fans of Verdasco or Nadal are gay?!

Women's tennis is fantastic, but only when Ivanovic or Kirilenko is playing. Otherwise it's just crap and dull.

Be honest, you don't enjoy it either.

When Henin plays at her best, she is awesome to watch.

Unfortunately, I am. And if you like tennis for the sport, you wouldn't enjoy an inferior, distorted version of it. People complain about Nadal's "ugly" gamestyle, but it's still two times aesthetically superior to the most elegant girl

That's mainly because she has a one-handed BH. Everyone likes a one-handed BH.

Admit it, Serena's game reminds you of a psychopath beating a cat to death.

Yes that's my opinion. That's the point of this board. It gets quite tiresome when people feel they need to reiterate that incessantly.

How can someone's gamestyle be an "abomination"? It's an awesome spectacle of power and brutishness. Serena tries to achieve the same effect, but it's just plain ugly. It makes me want to stab my eyes out.

"it makes me want to stab my eyes out" - this is my opinion.

"Serena's game is ugly" - this is universal truth.

No one honestly believes otherwise.

I agree, Serena is a dumb ball basher..

However, I'm 100% sure there are people who find her game to be not ugly.

the girls would lose!
I was challenged by 2 of the top girls back in my junior days, I think I was ranked 5 or 6 nationally and they were 1 and 3. I beat them pretty easy, think it was 2 and 2. If Rafa or Roger doesnt hold back they will blow the girls away, too much pace and spin for them to handle.

So, back to the question I asked at the beginning...

I can't remember which charity, maybe hit for haiti, serena was really keeping up with Rafa and Djokovic I think? And clijsters was like, "see what we put up with" Serena has some strenght so maybe she could do well against Rafa and Roger too. Don't underestimate this tiger

Thing is, she puts a lot of strength into each shot, but are her shots much more powerful or even AS powerful as the average top 50 mens player?

I don't think so! She would probably break her arm trying to return shots during intense moments.

If Serena and venus had doubles court on roger's side, they would crush roger. but if Roger had only singles court to cover than this would be close but Roger would probably win. 7-5 7-6,,,something like that.
I played this before and it isn't as easy as you think for the guy playing singles even if you just had singles court to cover. You can't make the other guys run because there is 2 guys over there and they can move the singles guy around alot.

O'rly?

do any of you dorks know the top serve speed of Serena Wiliams & Rafael Nadal in Wimbledon 2008?

She holds the record for the fastest serve struck by a woman in a main draw event. At the Zurich Open, she recorded 130 mph (210 km/h) She also holds the record for fastest serve in all four Grand Slam tournaments: 2003 Australian Open quarterfinal – 125 mph (201 km/h), 2007 French Open second round, 2008 Wimbledon final, 2007 US Open first round – 129 mph (208 km/h).[12] At Wimbledon in 2008, her average first serve speed was 115 mph (185 km/h) in the quarterfinal, 116 mph (187 km/h) in the semifinal, and 111 mph (179 km/h) in the final

What about her fastest forehand?

I guess my original question is flawed in that Serena would be tired after 2 sets with Rafa.

If it's a match to see who's better at tennis, then Roger and Rafa.
If it's a match to see who's got the biggest ***, then it'll be a close match, but still Rafa.

On the other hand, the Williams sisters' grunting might put both Roger and Rafa off.

Top female players hit balls consistently at about 70-80 mph on heated groundstroke rallies... male players do the same with more topspin, but in the men's game, you routinely see shots hit in the 80-99 mph range when they flatten out the ball slightly for more offensive shots...

Rog or Rafa playing against BOTH sisters would be tougher than you think, there'd be a sister on both sides of the court, always there to hit a ball.

Neither of them are the best ball placers, at least not in my opinion. They win points against their female counterparts by forcing errors with their powerful strokes, or hitting the ball past the female players who cannot get in position to return. However, in the singles match that the Williams sisters have played in the past against some 200 something ranked men's player, all he really did is just exasperate the female player by returning the ball back and creating unforced errors (I might be mistaken but that is what I thought I read). Even in the doubles game, if the Williams sisters want to win, they will have to find a way to hit a winner, and will probably end up hitting unforced errors. Perhaps the same defensive strategy might work against them in doubles, just slice the ball back deep, and wait for the unforced error. They certainly aren't going to be able to hit it past almost any of the top players on the men's tour.

I think it's Venus that holds most of the fastest-serve records. But Serena is second, and they both serve bigger than a lot of the men.

I don't think it would be close playing singles, but if Venus-Serena teamed up (and weren't having an off day), I think they'd win whether playing Nadal and Federer individually or as a team.

Doubles is a different animal from singles. Look at the much-vaunted match-up of Nadal-Djokovic last summer. They were No. 1-2 at the time and were beaten in the first round against two unheralded players that made a better pairing. Venus-Serena are a really formidable pairing, especially when you have Venus up at net. From what I saw last night, I don't think Rafa and Roger would do that well as a doubles team, in comparison to their singles dominance. Unless Venus or Serena is having a bad day, they're pretty unbeatable as a team.

I think Serena and Rafa are both effective displays of brute power but neither is very appealing to watch. Thankfully we have Fed for that.

Thing is, Rafa's shots are efficient in that the effort he puts in is equivalent to the consequential shot. With Serena the effort she puts in far outweighs the shot she produces. That is inefficiency. Rafa's shot is also far more impressive to watch. It may not have the elegance of Federer's but it's quite awe-inspiring, unlike Serena's.

What an irrelevant response. I really could not care less about that. The sole purpose of my comment was to express that Serena and Venus cant beat Fedal in either singles or doubles. I don't know what your point is.

Serena AND Venus ?

I think Agassi has chewed up TWO top college guys playing together just for PRACTICE. Pounded them into the ground then switched out for another two. IF correct, that should give you an idea.

And, the sole purpose of my comment was just to say, massacred or not by the men, they would not care I am sure. Obviously based on physical strength it would be very difficult for them to beat any men at the top of the game. That is not a newsflash.

Yeah... and when did I say that they would be crushed by the defeat? :? I'm sure they wouldnt care because they understand that they can't match up against the men in tennis. Serena even doubts that she would be able to get a game on Federer.

lol, I had a chuckle at that one. Federer is such a brilliant doubles player. Nadal is very good at doubles himself. Im sure team Fedal would win handily.

Was watching the Wozniacki 1st round match earlier and the commentator, Fred Stolle, said the women proved in the Rally for Relief match that they could foot it with the men.

The old guy is getting a bit senile I think. Federer and Nadal were in major stuff-around mode for most points that I saw.

I also think either Federer or Nadal could beat a Williams sister doubles team to be honest. Few of Fed's 1st serves would come back - even if he did them at 85% pace to keep the percentages up. Most of the ones which did would be sitter volleys. On return, most serves to his forehand would come back with way, way too much pace and depth compared to what the sisters are used to. Fed would then rush then net off it and, again, most of the time the point would be over the next shot. He would be able to go for shots knowing that his shotmaking ability couldn't be trumped by most players even if the ball came straight to them - as would often be the case such a singles vs doubles match.

Might sound dismissive of the Williams sisters abilities (combined even) but you only have to take a real look at most of their matches to see they hit nothing like the sort of shots guys like Federer/Nadal/Djokovic/Soderling usually can all day long. Their winners come mostly off poor replies. The men hit them off shots within inches of the baseline and/or sideline literally dozens of times in every match.

Okay, we got it! We know! Men are "physically" stronger than women. This topic is like flogging a dead horse! Women pretty much have it over men in every other area though (other than physical), so we will take the fact that you are stronger physically. Big whoop!
