Still have not seen Rafa play yet thanks to this rotton BBC coverage of the AO. They give us Murray live when they should also concentrate on the great winners in this sport. Hope Rafa is fully recovered because this was some flu bug here in Europe. Rather see him lose and be healthy than beat himself up and suffer

He said in a Spanish radio interview that he'd take a month off after the Australian Open, so even if he isn't healthy at least he knows this will be his last event for a long time.

I'll chip in. I'm a Nadal fan and I think they look embarrassing. Too much photoshop and what's with the gay calendar pose. Seriously, Armani WTF? :)

His name is Rafael Nadal. He's a tennis player. :)
He's perfectly recognizable. Of course, they are model pictures. They make him look more perfect than he is, but I like them. It's not gross at all.

The press conference after the second round. Sorry if someone posted it before:

I am quite aware of Rafeal Nadal, the greatest, talented tennis player in the world, the down to earth humble young man, admired and loved by many. These pictures look more like a waxwork - nothing like the real life tennis player i have seen on court!

His body doesn't seem different, but they definitely did something to his nose.

Also his upper cheek a lil bit. looks more filled it, just a tad bit. Stupid on them. But still pics are 10000 times better than the ronaldo stuff that was just repulsive.

I'm on the same wavelenght on this. I said this in the original thread about Armani

Babbette is not best pleased! What have they done to my Rafa! Photoshopped the hell out of him in the first pic he looks like a distant cousin! How insulting! And i'm not sure if the body in the jeans pic is his. Arse is not plump enough, plus the hair on the arm are a bit too noticeable and Rafa's hair is very fine!

These "best of the best" photographers never try hard enough with Rafa. I mean they usually even do things with the eyebrows but looks like they hardly touched them. In overposed shoots rafa mostly end up less appealing to me than when he is all natural. And why can't people understand the left side of his face is his best side!!! Anyway it is what it is and I take it.

Waiting for the next batch, and hopefully an advert where megan fox has her way with him.

Thanks for the pressers reservef. It was so nice to see him reflect on being a young player coming up and how the mentalities are different between then and now that he's at the level he is at. With that said I've seen time and time again what can happen when a player plays the match of his life against Rafa with nothing to lose so Tomic....calm the f8ck down!!

Haha, I'm just happy they are not as weird as the Ronaldo ones!!! I hate that they photoshopped his face. How stupid. In any case, better than I expected!

Ya seriously. Tomic will play there, like he has nothing to lose. I think this time Rafa is ready. He needs some tough matches already. Looks like Cilic will be next

I agree he does need the tough matches now. Too many easy matches isn't enough preparation.
Btw, I wish they'd waited till after AO to publish Armani. I hope no negative press affects his mood.
He says he doesn't read much about himself but he must do! He likes sports, in the sports sections he's there a lot of the times. Plus a guy that has posters of himself in his gym likes himself a bit no?

Don't worry, Rafa wasn't stretched in the USO (didn't drop a set until the Final) and look what happened there  while Djokovic got 2 five-setters and it didn't help him in the Final.

I think Rafa will easily straight set demolish Cilic (or Isner). They haven't got the footwork to stay with Rafa. Since he started playing the bully it's brought another dimension to his game whereby players require powers of golden retrieval to have a chance. I also think he'll slaughter Soderling in the SF, and he also will be keen to knockout Tsonga after what happened in 2008. But of course Murray is the likely opponent.

Murray will again be the challenge, but Rafa is at his absolute peak mentally right now, and that is the key vs Murray. We know they both will bring their a-game physically, but it's the clutchness which will propel Rafa to a straight sets win over Murray this time, tight sets but all Rafa. The clutchness was missing from Rafa's game early in 2010, but a year later we see the toughest player in history on the verge of the greatest achievement in history.

I hope there is no negative press. People are stupid if they say something seriously bad about these photos! Don't worry, for today rafa will practice then go on to wander around at the aquarium. I wonder if he should be announcing his activities like that. If I were in Melbourne I'd totally go stalk him down at the Aquarium. I'm sure he's reading about himself a little. But I think he avoids all the gossipy stuff. Non match analysis articles are garbage anyway. I also don't think that he has too much time for those. I'm sure he like himself a good amount. But the gym, do you think it's used only by him? Like not open to other athletes or private sessions? Not that I blame him for putting his pics up there, but could also have been done by whoever owns the place.

I was talking about his gym at home. But it could have been put up by his mum yes.
But soetimes I do wonder if he does read gossip because at times he makes quips when he answers questions. Like when someone asked him which women he would like to play doubles with I think he replied I don't know, but I know what you want to hear.

I like the Armani pictures. They've made him look very model-esque with some good old photoshop but they do that with everyone. It sounds strange to say considering his state of (deliberate) undress, but these photos are not as in your face as the Ronaldo ones. These have a hint of restraint to them that I think was lacking beforehand. I think this will be a very successful ad campaign for Armani.

NSK, I wasn't too keen on his outfit when I first saw the pics either but I've grown to really like it. He almost shimmers on court. Nice.:)

That's probably Benito filling him in.

I haven't seen his gym at home, only the one they show him working out in with his trainer and stuff.

Yeah I know, it looks like he's wearing running paint, it's a good idea from Nike, that material and color is brilliant when its not dry. It suits Australian weather well, because you are rarely dry there.

I'm pretty sure Babbette posted this one before, but it's a slightly longer version of that kia in-car interview.

Rafa's Times Blog/Q&A

Hi everyone, Just came from dinner and wanted to write a few words to you.
We had a nice dinner here nearby the hotel. No match tomorrow, so some good sushi. We are staying at a hotel where basically you have all kind of restaurants. This is good since it is convenient but at the same time we tend not to go out much.
I have been 10 days here in Melbourne and not really gone out of this place. Have to change that! If I am here in 2 nights I think I’ll change!

Tomorrow I am practicing at 11 so that leaves me time to sleep until at least 9.30 so not bad.
Can’t complaint.
Rafa
I guess he wrote this before he went to eat by the ocean? I suppose the aquarium counts as going out of the area.
Hi Rafa after every match you say that there is still room for improvement, which part of your game do you think you need to improve the most? - native3

RN: I think the position on court and maybe to play a bit more aggressive.

G’day Rafa! Muchas Gracias for writing from Melbourne and for replying to our questions....good on you. As with your first round match against Marcos Daniel, your second round match against Ryan Sweeting is the second match on the Rod Laver court...do you prefer playing your matches during the day or at night ..or do you not have any preference? Many thanks, Niamh, Ireland

RN: Hi there. I prefer the day since it is warm and I like the sun. But I know I will have to play soon a night match, probably the one on Saturday! You’ll see!

Rafa, as you spend so much of your year living out of a suitcase, which three things do you always like to have with you? Love Shani

RN: Music for sure, my lap top computer and my tennis stuff

Rafa. It is always a pleasure reading your blogs! Wish you a healthy and successful season:) I am curious what was it like playing water tennis in the ocean in Doha with Roger. It looked kind of bizarre:) Megy, Bulgaria

RN: Thanks, It was fun, something different that we did to publicize the launch of the new ATP season. The problem is that there is where I got my cold!

Rafa, it has been reported that you aren’t very keen on dogs. Do you like other animals — have you ever held a koala bear while in Australia? Good luck in your next match — vamos! Love Sam

RN: Yes I do but not to have them at home. I have had the chance in the past to see the Koala and it is quite cool!

Hola Rafa! We quite often see you with your Quely biscuits. However, an excellent biscuit is to be found in Australia called “Tim Tams”. Have you tried them?? Love, Jules

RN: I always have them with me. I eat them since I am a little kid and I have them at every place and every tournament I go to since they send me a whole box every week. I will try those you mention but I am more than sure that they won’t be better than the Quely’s :)

Looks like the whole ocean thing did contribute to him getting sick. Thanks Xisca.

Hey..can I borrow your gold rose colored glasses please? :)

Seriously seeing Nadal this year, you've got to be either joking or bordeline naive to suppose that he will win everything in straights through the final..
