Blue Max just got it yesterday. St. Anthony was supposed to have gotten it yesterday, and I think Cellars Eagan said they'd get theirs tomorrow (Friday). So it's out there.

Dogfish is based around 1.5 hours from my house. They have a pub 10 minutes from where I live. I've tried their 60 and 90, that stuff is alittle heavy in taste for me. But from my beer expert friends, it's definitely up there. Frankly I prefer their Lawnmover and another Lager. Their food is excellent, they have a really nice wood oven there. Pizza is the best I've tasted anywhere!

Have you ever tried pizza at the Mellow Mushroom? That is the best pie I've ever had. Next time I'm up in Northern Virginia my wife and I are making it a point to stop by the Dogfish pub.

Not yet. But I really like the name! Dogfish is definitely a worthwhile place. I believe they have one in N. VA as well. You can find it in their website.

Their Ruben Sandwich and burgers are great too!

I love the Mellow Mushroom but best pizza you've ever had? That needs to be fixed my friend.

Sipping Great Divide Old Ruffian on tap. Very nice barleywine at 10.2% ABV. They also have Dogfish Head World Wide Stout on tap at 18% ABV!

In the US: Di Fara in NY, still a fan of the real Tottonos as well

In Italy, countless places I cannot name.

In Key West - Definitely Bobolus

In South Florida - hard to say, Fratelli di Buffalo in South Beach is pretty awesome. For NY pies, I go to Primanti Brothers; thin crust, Anthonys used to be real good before they over-expanded and they burn the crust too much.

I like MM a lot, and they have a great beer selection.

Oh heck yes - scored the last sixer of Hopslam at a local beer store. Looking forward to giving it a spin when I get home from the gym.

I also have a couple of Old Rasputins in the fridge as well - if I didn't have to work tomorrow, I'd go nuts and watch some Aussie Open...

And this is why Hopslam is such a hot product - this year's brew is very very good. The aroma is amazing - Bell's has always been one of my favorite breweries for hoppy beers. Flavor-wise, the ABV is more subtle than last year's version, and the flavor is a great balance of hops and malt. Definitely a winner...

Compared to Abrasive, it seems smoother - the balance is better. Abrasive is hardly a slouch in that category though - I enjoyed a bit of it last week while watching football, and it goes down awfully easy for a 9% ABV beer.

I had a slice of pizza in New York years ago and it was literally the size of my arm. It was at a tourist joint so not a good measure of a true NY pie. In Italy, I was at a restaurant that looked like they put the pizza under a tree and shook a bunch of leaves on it. These leaves were very spicy and the pizza was so good not just there but everywhere we went. I still need to try the MM beers.

That beer last night just made me groggy and loopy. I had a few glasses of wine after that with dinner and 1 DF 60. My body told me it was time to power down after that.

Lucked out this weekend and was able to procure 2 bottles of Pliny...what a nice cap to a busy week. The wife and I also enjoyed large bottles of Brother Thelonius on Saturday and Stone Ruination IPA on Sunday. I also tried 12oz bottles of 2 other IPAs:

1. Drakes IPA-a decent offering but similar to other IPAs that are stronger on bitter aftertaste than the nice citrus/pine aromas and tastes I love. Just okay, not very complex and probably not something I'll drink again.

2. Moylan's IPA-not a fan at all. Moylans' is famous for their 'Kilt Lifter' Scotch Ale. This IPA was very bitter but in a tylenol/chemical kind of way, not a hoppy kind of way. It left a very strong bitter aftertaste that required eating multiple cookies to rid it from my mouth. :)

On a side note...anyone out there drink too much IPA and then they all just start tasting bitter? Maybe I had a cold/sinus problems but all IPA were just tasting bitter. Am I suffering from hop/IPA overdose? :) I never thought I would say this but I really enjoyed the Brother Thelonius and a bottle of Sam Smith's Oatmeal Stout vs. IPAs this weekend. I was wanting that sweet/malty flavor vs. IPAs this weekend. I even found myself craving a nice, cold Tecate with lime. Maybe it's time to take a week off (perish the thought!)?

Never had the regular IPA from Moylan's but I've always though both their IIPA and Hopsickle are better than average.

To your side note - I went through a phase where I tired of hoppy beers. Probably palate fatigue or something. Took a couple of weeks off from them and started to enjoy them after that. In general I like to mix up what I try. For a while I was really enjoying saisons, hefeweizens, and barleywines. More recently I've been back to IPA's/IIPA's and good pilsners. Smoked has really grown on me as well, especially smoked porters.

Been drinking Rocky Mountain IPA the last 2 nights. It's not quite as good as I remember it. Perhaps I'm getting palate fatigue with IPAs in general.

Palate fatigue...I like that term. I usually swing towards good pilsners and saisons in the warmer months but still love a good IPA. I've never been a huge fan of porters but I do love all stout varieties. I'm thinking of going on a stout/English Ale kick for the next few weeks.

Although the temps in SD aren't too extreme in the winter, this is the perfect time of year for Impy Stouts, Barleywines, Winter ales, Belgian styles such as Quads, Trippels, and Dubbels, etc. With the exception of some Impy Stouts and BW beers, most of those aren't very hoppy beers.

One of my favorite stouts of all time is Speedway Stout. And it's made and available right in your backyard. (Of course, if you're not a fan of coffee in your beer, then it's probably not for you)

I'm assuming SD is San Diego and not South Dakota. :)

Yes, I like Speedway very much. I also like Lagunitas Cappuccino Stout.

I feel bad for states like South Dakota. Their beer selection is pretty poor, though not as bad as North Dakota, and perhaps states like Mississippi with a ABV cap of 6.3%.

If you like coffee flavors, Terrapin Brewery Wake n Bake - Coffee Imperial Stout. Had it on tap, killer. I think it actually has coffee in it.

I have to travel for Terrapin. I think their distribution is mostly in the SE United States and perhaps some east coast states. But if I'm ever in the area, I'll make sure to track it down.

Wine is just fine. I think I've seen that brew in the stores here but never got around to trying it.

Watched "How Beer Saved the World" on Discovery Channel last night. Cheesy production value but pretty interesting how beer has been the catalyst for a lot of technological innovation over the centuries...writing, refrigeration, germ theory, etc. Is there anything beer can't do? :)

Lucked out and got 2 more bottles of Pliny last Friday. Also tried Firestone Velvet Merlin oatmeal stout at the recommendation of a guy at BevMo. It was pretty good but a middle of the road stout, not as rich and full as Sam Smiths. Also tried this year's limited release Boone Imperial IPA...nice but like their Hop Ottin IPA, not so complex or hoppy-should have gone with Green Flash or Port Hop-15.

Anyone into nut browns? Any recommedations?

Tonight a Surly Furious (IPA) followed by a change with Boulevard Tank 7 saison. The Boulevard is a worthy beer but I think I Ommegang Hennepin might be slightly better. A good saison is a nice change of pace from the hop barrage I'm used to. Now if I could only get Dupont Avec les Bons Voeux, which I used to get occasionally when I was up in the cities. That beer is something else :!:

Furious is my standard go-to IPA. I prefer it to most other IPA's with a few exceptions. But most of those exceptions are higher priced seasonal IPA's such as Founders Harvest, some of the Mikkeller single hopped beers like Nelson Saugvin and Simcoe (pricey at around $5 a bottle), etc.

Surly is pretty much limited to MN, part of Wisconsin, and Chicago. If you're ever visiting, make sure to get your hands on it. Oh that's right you don't visit states with blue laws. ;)

Nah, I'll visit states with blue laws. I do prefer the temperature to be above freezing though. Sorry, I have standards. :)
