Surprised there isn't a thread for this yet.
Hoping Carolina takes $cam Newton so the Bengals can't get him.

aj green is a great pick. throw it up in the endzone and let him go get it= TD!
falcons gave up a TON for 6th pick... julio jones. love him but that was way too many picks!
Wow, locker picked before gabbert.
guess Skins can get gabbert or fairley now. hrmmmm
Jax trades up for Gabbert? Skins could've used a QB, I dunno what the heck they're thinking.
They're owned by Dan Snyder.

Ponder?
I dont think a bengals fan can make fun of Snyder, he at least tries to win and spends money. Mike Brown is the worst owner in the NFL. The Bengals are the poorest run organization in the NFL, maybe in all sports. This coming from a Bengals fan (well more like an ex-Bengals fan) I cant stand watching them anymore. Its like watching a ship sink.
The Bengals are not even the worst run franchise in the league, that would belong to the Detroit Lions.
Gabbert pretty much came out of nowhere to be a top 10 pick, as someone that follows CFB relatively closely I'd never even heard of him before guys like McShay and Kiper started hyping him up. I'm always a believer in on field production over having good numbers at the scouting combine, and 16 TDs/9 INTs isn't that impressive IMO.
But he ends up in a good situation in Jacksonville, sit a few yrs behind Garrard and come in w/ one of the best RB in MJD behind you.
This years' QB class was weak. Once Luck stayed at Stanford that point became more clear. Teams looked at the fact that no QBs the past few years have really been busts (Ryan, Flacco, Stafford, Sanchez, Freeman, Bradford, Tebow) and were willing to reach for a franchise guy.
Guys should watch tape on Gabbert. No pocket presence. He's a like scared little boy in there. He scrambles to the outside of perfectly good pockets and makes his line look terrible.

Mallett must be a mass murderer or something. For character issues to drag him this far down. He's the consensus best pure passer in this draft with a great football iq.
In other news: With the entire 2nd round the 2020 New England Patriots select...

Loved the draft last night.
My thoughts:
HUGE reach for Newton. I think he's a million dollar athelete with a nickel for a brain. Not that Clauson is the answer, but he certainly got no help from anywhere last year. We may be singing a different tune about Newton in 5 years, but right now, I don't think that Carolina made the most prudent choice.
Love Von Miller to Denver. Denver has a lot of holes to fill, but I think a pass rushing LB will do a lot to shore up their defense.
Surprised that Gabbert dropped below Locker. I think Locker is the better NFL QB, but everyone was fawning over Gabbert for the last month or so. I think Locker has tremendous upside - even if he wasn't accurate in college, he had almost no receivering corps to throw to.
Ponder at 12. Ouch. Again, in 3-4 years we'll see where he ends up, but the one plus is that he is a very smart kid, and the Vikes have a history of drafting athletes that can't run an offense because their IQ is about the same as their shoe size, so Ponder is an improvement. He may prove to be a good QB, but I don't think he'll ever be a game changer.
Really surprised Bowers is still on the board. Same with Dalton. I still think Dalton will prove to be the best QB in the draft - he's the 2011 Drew Brees - undersized, not a big arm, but smart and has a history of turning around programs.
I think that the 3 smartest picks based on need/talent are:
1. A.J. Green to Cincy
2. Julio Jones to Atlanta - yes, they gave up a haul, but to give Matty Ice another weapon to throw to is only going to make Roddy White that much more dangerous.
3. Gabe Carimi to Chicago - Wow. Cannot believe that he dropped that far, but he's a monster player for a team that was a weak O-line away from being a Super Bowl team.
Honerable mention to: Nate Solder (NE), Anthony Costanzo (IND), Nick Fairley (DET)
Fairley to Detroit? Teams in the NFC North are not going to have a good time trying to stop Suh and Fairley - in 2 years, the Lions will be a force. They have a core of young talent that is arguably one of the best in the NFL (Stafford, Megatron, Suh, Fairley).
skins trade down
and then
trade down again.
we need the picks. hope we get better value than more 5ths. blech.
I think the entire NFC north has to draft OL in response to Detroit grabbing Nick Fairley.
Seriously, Detroit's inside rush with Suh and Fairley, both young and dominant, is going to be BRUTAL.
Smart pick GB on Sherrod, Rodgers is the most valuable player on that team and needs protected.
Smart pick Bears on Carmini, we need OL either way. (But Angelo continues to prove he cannot manage a draft even when making a smart choice)
WTF Vikings...Ponder? Drafting the white TJax?
I like the Pats taking Mallett. Any character issues usually disappear w/ Belichick around, and he's a possible legit successor to Brady.
learn how to be a professional QB, both on and off the field. -------------- Not to mention learn how to grow exceptional hair and hook up with supermodels, which I'm sure Mallett is a fan of.
Love Von Miller to Denver. Denver has a lot of holes to fill, but I think a pass rushing LB will do a lot to shore up their defense.

The problem is that about the only position the Broncos aren't weak or old at is linebacker and they already have one top pass rushing linebacker - Dumerville, who was hurt last year - and their other linebackers are pretty good at it. So they spent the only chance they may ever have to get an impact defensive lineman (or even two or three if they worked things right - so they'd look like or surpass Detroit) to fill the only position they didn't have a need at on defense.
The Broncos weakness from the 80's to now - 30 years - even during the Super Bowl years - was not having good Defensive Linemen. They always had to work around it with fancy schemes and blitz packages. Looks like it will be a problem for many more years.
If he can realize that the two are related, it might be enough motivation for him to become a great quarterback.
Dont know much about Denvers D schemes. Do they run a 3-4 or 4-3 most of time. If its 4-3 then having playmaking linebackers is more important to having super great DTs. In a 4-3 you need big body DTs to clog the middle and let your linebackers make the plays.
Look at the Ravens D in 2000 You had Sam Admas and Siragusa (both Signed as FA's) in the middle and Had Burnett and McCrary on the ends. The had 3 good linebackers in Boulware Lewis and Sharper.
So if Denvers is running the 4-3 the Von Miller pick is great. And if they run 3-4 he becomes a player like Derrick Thomas lining up at DE sometimes to wreck havoc. I think they were samrt to take him.
Would drafting a DT fix everything for Denver? No it wont but, players with Von's skillset do not come around too often, and there was not a Suh type player at DT. Von in collge to me reminded me of Derrick Thomas when he was wrecking havoc. I highly doubt Von will ever have 7 sacks in one game, but he has that skillset, but may be better in pass coverage.
