Anybody try Dogfish Head 90 Minute IPA?

Thanks Kevin! That's great info. Unfortunately, Stone, Lagunitas, and Mendocino are off the table for us, and you're right--Russian River doesn't have the capacity--and I see Bear Republic has a limited lineup, especially in 6pks. You know your stuff!

Yep, I'll have to dig up Kevin's analysis next time I'm out in Cali.

Thanks! And anyone that went to UVA and knows about Tupper's Hop Pocket is okay in my book. :)

Given that Lagunitas is off the table, my vote goes to Firestone Walker or Green Flash. My heart and taste buds say Green Flash but as I said, FW beers seem to appeal to a mass audience and they offer a nice range of beers, including English styles. Let us know how things go. My wife and I are always thinking about moving back east, so the more west coast beers available, the happier we'll be. :)

had Green Flash IPA (great brew) out west but haven't seen it around here. however Avery IPA is available locally and that one also hits the spot. :)

It will be a year or more until I'm brave enough to attempt trans continental travel with a toddler!

I feel your pain. We have a 3 YO and 15 month old and make the flight back east a minimum of 3 times/year. We always take the red eye going east and sacrifice our own sleep but it works well for them.

My wife is getting the fever for another. Time to drink some more!

Anyone out there try Lake Erie Monster from Great Lakes (my favorite brewery)?

The unfiltered aspect of it adds some interest, I think. Definitely changes the flavor. Hoppier, but seemingly less bitter than their Commodore Perry.

Just a random MSN "top 20" feature but hey, it gets this fine thread back on top:

http://specials.msn.com/A-List/Life...cumentid=29366413&imageindex=1' rel='nofollow

Some of my faves but so many great breweries left out...I know it's MSN but c'mon!...no Russian River, Lagunitas, (insert your fave). No surprise to see Dog Fish, Stone or Victory and nice to see Port (one of my faves) and Allagash on the list. But Saranac? Really?

Lagunitas is the biggest omission.

Closeout deal!! I picked up multiple bombers of Great Divide Tripel and Hercules for 99 cents a piece the other day. :)

Bottled dates were a little over a year old, which made me concerned about the Hercules; whether the hops would hold up. I've since had both of them and they've both held up nicely. Hercules is a more malt forward IIPA, so I think that helps.

Had some Stone IPA on draft last night at WOB and then a DF 90 at another restaurant. Been sticking mostly with Cigar City Jai Alai IPA and DF 60 at home. Nothing too exciting.

Anybody seen any of the latest 120 Minute out in the wild? I'm going to be in the Washington, DC area in about 10 days and hoping to get my hands on one.

They just started delivering a lot of new beers to my local Publix. I had left this Publix due to the poor beer selection but they may be reeling me back in. I tried some Dale's Pale Ale (Colorado) this past weekend - it was in a can so I was a little reluctant (and it cost $9.99). This is the only good beer that I can remember drinking that came out of a can. 6.5% abv and went down really smooth. Definitely will be going in the rotation .

Still hunting for Lagunitas around these parts (Buford, GA). If anybody knows a place to purchase, please let me know.

If you go to Lagunitas' website, it lists Savannah Distributing as the only option for GA. I'd contact them.

As for cans...a lot of good beers (more and more) are being offered in cans. Here in Cali, it's catching on because of the portability/fact that glass is illegal in most parks and beaches/environmental "friendliness". Anderson Valley, Maui, 21st Ammendment are just a few that use cans. I've heard Lagunitas and Bear Republic are soon to follow. In VA (my home state), Blue Mountain and Dominion can be found in cans. I really don't notice a difference in taste (many beer experts say cans are ideal compared to glass bottles) and it's so much easier to camp/hit the beach with canned beer.

Good luck finding the Lagunitas...my favorite brand.

Here in the north, Surly is almost exclusively cans. I heard Sierra Nevada was going to start canning, though not exclusively.
While cans are easier than bottles when you're on the go, you still need to bring your goblet...

What does "out in the wild" mean then?

Sorry, was wondering if that was the mix-up. I'm not familiar with the wild styles. I just meant out in the real world, as the 120 Minute has been so elusive for so long.

I've noticed our local Publix has really improved their beer selection the last year or so.

I've been able to find 120 minute fairly easy across the border in Hudson. Keep in mind 120 minute is brewed a few times a year so you may or may not find it throughout the full year.

Though it seems like on the DFH website that they've had trouble lately keeping up with demand.

Well, they've just recently begun putting out their first 120 Minute in about a year and a half, IIRC, and my understanding is they've pulled out of Wisconsin.

Oh yeah, I forgot that they pulled out of Wisconsin. 120 is an interesting beer that you should definitely try. I am kind of hot/cold on it. I have to be in the mood for it. Sometimes the alcohol and sweetness can be a bit overbearing.

I had it once, a couple years back. I recall enjoying the novelty of it, but it wasn't my first beer of the night, and I'm not sure I really was able to make a good judgment.
Heck, I'm a guy who tried to convince myself that I liked SA Triple Bock.

Had a couple 21st Amendment Hop Crisis last night. It's an IIPA, aged on oak. Reminiscent of Southern Tier Unearthly - or the oak-aged Unearthly, I suppose. Good stuff, and a good value, given that Unearthly is only available in bombers around here.

^Whoa, that sounds good. What is IIPA?
Indian India Pale Ale?
Independent IPA?
double I PA?

If it's double, it reminds me of the character from Idiocracy: Upgrayedd, spelled thusly with the double D to represent a double dose of his pimping (an American Pimp reference).

I'm a big fan of the Southern Tier Unearthly. It packs quite a punch along with being a great tasting brew.

Imperial - same as double.

Just took a personalized tour of New Holland Brewery's downtown Holland facility. Thank you Dennis Downing!

Was more impressed with their whiskeys than their beer with the exception of Dragon's Milk - think Guinness but creamier and better quality; and Belgian Knife Fight - ginger and lemongrass.

Sometimes breweries sign up with the first wholesaler who calls them--even if that wholesaler doesn't have any major brands and works the whole state out of one or two warehouses. It makes things easy for the brewery, but it's not so good for distribution.

I've got a Lagunitas Lucky 13 waiting on me when I get home. Then we'll probably walk over the the local pizza joint and split a pitcher of SN Torpedo. Cheers and happy weekend to everyone.

Picked up some new stouts today. Stone Imperial Russian Stout, Great Divide Chocolate Oak Aged Yeti, and Epic Imperial Stout. Really looking forward to the first two, more just curious about the latter. Anybody had anything from Epic? They're out of Salt Lake City, of all places.

Tried a new one last night, Firehouse Brewing Hops on Rye. 75 IBU and 7.5%, very spicy and bitter but quite nice. I really enjoyed it. Probably a better rye/IPA than Bear Republic Hop Rod Rye.

Also saw another new IPA but didn't get a change to try it-maye I will this weekend. Breweries have been very creative with IPA names and this one is the best I've seen in a few months....Caldera Brewery (out of Oregon) Hopportunity Knocks. Great name.

Was in Milwaukee for the Cubs/Brewers game and picked up a case of Spotted Cow from Woodman's in Kenosha, just off the I-94 interchange. That place is huge and has a great selection. Great prices too. I was more excited about the beer than I was the ballgame.

Picked up a 4 pack of Founder's Old Curmudgeon yesterday - that is one tasty beer.

I'm starting to enjoy more and more scotch ales/old ales - as much as a good IPA is still tasty, I really enjoy the maltiness of the darker ales.

I've noticed a lot of the beer makes now are trying to incorporate "Hop" cleverly into their beers like Hoptical Illusion etc.

There are so many good IPA's on the market, good marketing gets beer in mouths. :)

By the way, we fly out to VA for 10 days next Thursday. I'll have a Dominion Pale Ale for you. But first stop, Blue Mountain Brewery outside Charlottesville...Full Nelson Pale Ale here I come, then on to some Tupper's Hop Pocket in Williamsburg.

Had an Abita Turbo Dog (brown ale), a Flying Dog IPA, and a Southhampton Double Wheat last night after catching some qualies at the Legg Mason.

Had a Harpoon Leviathan at a pub yesterday. Then had dinner at a sushi place. Ordered an Asahi Dry. I couldn't even drink it. It tasted like a rotten Miller Lite after being spoiled with the hoppy goodness of the Leviathan (an honest-to-God IPA).
We all went back to the pub. Had another Leviathan and walked home.

Two Leviathans. Great taste. Enough of a buzz for the whole night.

I envy those of you who have daily access to Founders' brews.

Red's Rye and Centennial IPA are amazing, as is their Porter.

Right on! Founders is one of my favorite brewers. For me, Harvest Ale is pretty much the perfect IPA, while KBS is also a favorite of mine.

Picked up some Oscar Blues Gubna and Bear Republic Hop Rod Rye last weekend while in Wisconsin. Wasn't so impressed with the Gubna, but the Hop Rod Rye (which I've tried before) was excellent! :-D
