Huge news about Federer's racket!!!

Was on the phone with the Wilson rep today...and he casually mentions Wilson is getting Del Potro a new stick. cool. then he informs me Fed has been testing out a few new prototypes to hit with, with the main difference in that he's testing out a larger head size. 93-95!!!!!!!!

so fed may finally not shank those bhs so much anymore!!!

lol, well he's using that 22mm/21mm/21mm beam pj'd blx tour now.

This thread reminds me of when I posted that. 22/21/21 is a familiar 93 we all should know.

Roger should slip some 90" sticks into Rafa;s bag the next time they play. Rafa will be too busy lining up his bottles to notice. then we'll know how much difference technology really makes ;)

Omg...

First 2 pics are from practice, next two are from teh actual match. His outfit is totally different....<insert facepalm pics here>
Yes, I realize that. But people who saw the actual match said that Federer was using a bigger racquet (at least in the first set).

Wilson rep told me hes not switching until after US Open. but yea he could be taking it out of his bag during some matches just to see how it feels in live action

Is this Wilson rep a friend of yours or something? Just wondering how you can just casually find this information out on the fedMEISTER! ;)

In practice or match, Fed needs to post some reviews here after trying different racuqets.

And an exclusive Spencer on-court interview!

That close up on the Video is not his racket!!!! Its a shot from the other end, the strings are different as well. They have just used one for effect like they do at the aussie open

I'm sure wilson would love to make him change. A 95 inch racket would be much better to sell then the 90 inch racket that most rec players (who are the most important market of course) can't even play.

It's not technology that makes a difference, it's headsize. All of these "modern" frames are made with inferior materials AKA "technology".

and what is the difference between k95 and k90 on levels below 5.0 or even 6.0?

To be completely honest, I suspect it'll be a case of selling a larger frame to the public and Fed keeping on with his current stick under a PJ.

Wilson going the Speed Pro route and designing a 93 sq in x 17 mm box beam for Fed sounds too good to be true.

Then most rec players need to first learn how to play tennis. ;-)

Let's be honest here, the BLX PJ is a huge step down from the K-Factor. Potsie refuses to touch it, and while Fed hasn't said anything publicly, I wouldn't at all be surprised if he asked Wilson for something nicer too.

I also think that a lot of the people who've bought Fed rackets (especially those rated 2.0 - 4.0) have really struggled with its comparatively small headsize and complained as they've gotten their posteriors kicked by similar-level players wielding larger, lighter sticks.

So imo Wilson will take a page from 2003 and have Fed PJ a larger headed stick, one with edgier colours and graphics and a headsize that will be more appreciated by rec players.

In the final analysis, Fed's shanks have stopped being a problem and as long as he keeps playing at the level he's been at since 2010 WTF, he probably won't change sticks.

yea i agree. i mean obviously even if fed switches to 95, the retail one we buy wont be the same as his. we dont know what he has now, and we wont really know ever. my reason for posting originally was because if Fed does switch to a large size, that is very exciting to me. regardless of whatever retail stick is up for sale.

we wont really know. hes probably not even using the BLX90 now.

Ron Yu has confirmed in many posts that Fed uses an off the shelf retail BLX 90.

But I'm sure your Wilson rep knows more than Ron so maybe you can ask him.

LOL
you honestly believe anyone besides Fed really knows what hes using. besides that wasnt the point of this thread

yea because i am sure Ron had a press conference where he confirmed it on live film. and of course he is 100% honest too. not like wilson or someone may pay him to say what they want him to say.

DUH
I never said that Ron told anyone...I said that he knows what Roger is using. Before, you asked if JD thought anyone beside Roger knew. There you go!

you guys are missing the point of the thread anyways. my posting this news was because its shocking news if Fed does switch to bigger, and i think it will be very exciting to see how his game is with a bigger head size.

but go on and argue about whats true or not. i dont really care

I'm really excited, I just talked to my Wilson Rep, and he told me that there will be a box-beamed 95 and 90 in a new 6.1 range in 2012. Still BLX though, but definitely worth a try! :)

I really hope Rog doesn't switch to a 95 or higher, because he's one of the few classic style players left on the tour.

This is big news. I guess testing and actually using are two different things. I would love to see a 93-95" version of the box beam Federer racket.

Well, that's not quite what I took from Ron's comments. They receive the frames from Wilson and then balanced them, redid the grips etc.

This post here from the famous Fabfed thread on the topic has side-by-side comparisons of Federer's actual frame vs the retail BLX (albeit the "Asian" version) and it is a fact that they have slightly different inside-throat decals - as evident in the photos. So, they can't really be called retail models unless the decal side changed with production runs (which is likely??) - regardless of whether they are the identical internally. Either way, Federer's have stayed the same so his could be from one run/era as opposed to being taken from 'normal' stock whenever they need more.

Basically, until someone cuts one open we have no way of knowing whether the internal composition is the same as a retail model. His may be braided kevlar/graphite like an original PS85, or use the K6.1 Tour composition... It is highly likely they could have a slightly different flex etc from the retail model - or at least all chosen to be similar before being sent to P1. We only know what goes on with them after they reach Priority One.

That is what I think as well. Great post.

This has nothing to do with your comment, but I would just like to say hello to another Buckethead fan ;) haha :) I've got loads of cds and the dvds, ohhh yeah baby!

Yeah, the last innovative guitar player. I've been to several of his concerts, took a couples of pics with him, unfortunately He doesn't talk :( to anybody.

I'm assuming you're a fan of Iron as well based on your nick name.

Cheers man.

you know...this is all from what the Wilson rep told me...so....believe what you want. i think my source is pretty good lol

A sales rep from a racquet company is a pretty crap source. They're told what to tell shop owners/employees in their national sales meetings, and it's all with the goal to increase excitement/sales for the new upcoming lines.

Wilson is probably getting ready to do a Jan/Feb/March 2012 roll out, so they're getting people psyched up. I'd be shocked if Fed switches to a bigger frame. He'll probably keep what he's been using since 2003/2004.
