Nonsticky underwear for tennis

Under Armour is the only boxer-briefs I use for tennis. Normal stuff just gets soggy and weird... :(

Yeah, I strictly wear compressions shorts. Nike pro combat to be exact. I have a few pairs of the adidas techfit compression shorts with those TPU bands that make you look like spiderman, but they don't breathe very well.

I also have some Nike pro combat shorts. Pretty comfortable if you ask me. Doesn't ride up like normal boxers/briefs.

What the shortest nike makes in the pro combats? i have a pair that are boxer brief length and i find that they fit a little too much into the thigh. they are also too tight on the balls if you know what i mean.

i also tried the adidas samba which are soccer undershorts. those are very comfortable but tend to warm you up too much in summer.

i am basically looking for something light, subtle, and comfortable for hot summer days.

Lol, rapid, I know what you mean. Under Armour feels weird against my junk, plus the sweat doesn't wick away, it just runs down your leg. I like Fruit of the Loom boxer briefs. Even though they are cotton, I don't notice the sogginess.

Hands down the best boxer briefs for your issue...

http://www.jockey.com/products/GO-Mesh-Midway-Brief-2-pack

Much lighter and thinner than compression shorts. I recommend dark colors because white goes grey after a while. They also last a long time.

I get mine at K*hl's when there's a sale, which is often.

do you feel the mesh structure against your skin or are they more seamless? they do seem like a good idea. what about room for balls! i am not going to budge on this issue as funny and embarrassing as it might be!

I'm strictly Nike Pro Combat shorts, too.

so many like the nike pro combat, but honestly, i am neither going for a combat nor am i pro! :p

i've tried them and they are a no go. this hi-tech thing just doesn't do it for underwear to be honest...we are talking about comfort and safeguarding of sensitive parts, without choking the rooster.

FTL and hanes boxer-briefs are what i wear now, and i am fine for the most part unless it's hot out and/or i sweat a lot...then they start to feel heavy and stick, and you do feel warm. but they are a lot better than many other choices.

Well, to me the mesh feels great. You actually have less fabric in contact with your skin when you think of it.

As for room for balls... I'm sure Jockey kept that in mind in the design. I like the fit. Not too tight, not too loose.

I have some base layer shorts from playing softball leagues. Thin and have a pocket for a cup (not that I use it for tennis...or should I? Jk). The run the length of my thighs. Even during hot days they are comfy. You can find them in the base layer/sliding short section of sports stores. Just don't get the actual sliding shorts as it's a waste of money and gets warmer than the non padded ones and you arenn sliding into home. I've seen some as low as $12-15.

I usually stick to technical sections but noticed this on the main page as the current "last post." Couldn't resist. I have various basic "non-cotton" models from different retailers, but I like some that match your "light, subtle, and comfortable." They are sold at K*hl's (as another poster wrote the name--is that one a "no-no" for TW?) They are "Sonoma" brand. All polyester. Properly structured "room." Adequate "control." Adequate length to prevent any "escape" while doing your splits to retrieve a low slice. Variety of colors if you care. They are not billed as "athletic equipment," only the generic "performance" for the material, but they fit the bill. They are usually on the wall with those "clip" hangers.

I got some great adidas performance underwear from Kohls online; really light, supportive, very breathable, trunk-length, and they're a really cool lime green color. I'm not sure what they're called, though.

so i just ordered the go mesh trunks from jockey. they seem to be the most reasonable suggestion so far. i didn't go for the boxer/brief length because it defies the purpose of wanting to feel that you are wearing less and not more. will post feedback once i get them.

the Exofficio look useful. they are practically the same as the jockey ones. i will give them a try if i am not satisfied with the Js. do they ever go on sale?

does anyone else think it's ridiculous to pay $20 for a pair of underwear?

Ask nadal. He probably knows his underwear pretty well lol.

Anyway, being a teenager I only play in boxers and have never had a problem

hopefully you are not one of those teenagers with shorts halfway down there butts and boxers hanging out.

rafa probably doesn't know much about it, he only knows about his superstition.

^In the "boxer brief section." I've only paid $6 to $9 per pair recently with sales. Yes, I do take advantage of sales (and good coupons if I get e-mailed them). I had one pair I liked a while back, and when I went back to the store, they didn't carry them any longer. I then did an internet seach and the company had doubled (within months) the price on them. Please...

Difficult one to recommend with total success. A "touchy subject" for each person.

I'm reading this w/ interest as my cotton boxers have been ridiculously wet as have my shorts this summer. I went for a 2nd serve on Saturday, pulled the ball from my pocket, bounced it, and splash! Gross! I feel sorry for the opponents and my partner who feel obligated to toss the balls back to me.

I'm waiting for the Jockey review.

What I really want is a short that has a built in liner like running shorts (not like swim trunks; that open mesh can be DEADLY!) and have some sort of sweat resistant pocket to keep the tennis balls dry! Let's face it. We'd pay for shorts like that!

I found some athletic boxer briefs from hanes and they work pretty well. Under Armour is pricey but worth it.

why?

that seems like a death wish for your...boys.

Also you Nike Pro Combat users, is the hypercool better than core?

I don't like wearing Nike compression shorts as underwear. I prefer Under Armour. However, I love wearing Nike Compression shorts whenever I play sports, hockey, baseball, tennis, golf, etc... I prefer the Nike hypercool ones. Actually all my underwears are either Under Armour or Calvin Klein.

Good choice IMO. I won't wear anything else, tho I go the boxer-brief route. I have the longer boxer briefs and the shorter ones and honestly, I can't feel a difference because the fabric is great.

Report back on your findings!

My old Adidas shorts have that liner built-in, perfect. Does not keep the shorts dry though. Found running briefs to work well, cheaper than this undergear, and last forever. Back-in-the-day we wore Speedos under our short shorts.

I am a huge supporter of synthetic fabrics. Shirts, socks, shorts, hats, etc.

But the only undies I wear are cotton. I need some comfort in my shorts, and I've never found a synthetic that comes close.

I have four pairs of the ExOfficio boxer briefs and some of the Jockey Gomesh stuff.

I bought them all last year.

The GoMesh had some of the elastic bands start appearing and some holes in the mesh. The best thing about them is that they are lightweight. Oddly enough some of them retain more moisture than others. I cannot figure out why that is.

The ExOfficio are still as good as the first day I wore them. No holes and the waistbands are still perfect. They have always been the first piece of apparel that becomes dry after I play tennis.

i am making the move to synthetic with skepticism. you have a point that i thought of. i guess playing with synthetic that keeps you dry and is non sticky, wouldn't ride up etc, is better than soaking in wet cotton which can be as uncomfortable as synthetic for normal wear. i guess i am willing to compromise the comfort of cotton for the hours of play.

thanks for the review on these. i haven't touched either so far, but just from the pictures: the wholes on the GoMesh seem larger which makes sense that they will wear out sooner.

did it take you time to adjust to these from regular cotton underwear?

Not at all considering how much I hate the feeling of wearing soaked underwear after playing tennis. Occasionally, I'll forget to change into a pair of the ExOfficio or Jockey boxer-briefs, and the feeling of the soaked cotton while playing tennis disgusts me.

I didn't like the high price of the ExOfficio underwear, but considering that they have lasted for over a year now with no signs of wear has convinced me the price is worth the money. I've also used them for travel since they are easily washed and quickly dried. My only suggestion is to avoid drying them with heat. Air-drying is definitely the key to making them last a long time.

yes, after living in italy and having no accesso to a dryer. i noticed that all the athletic clothing fair a lot better if you wash them in cold and hang dry. so that's the formula.

they should deliver this week, i am looking forward to them.

I usually air dry my clothes in my laundry room. No need to waste electricity when I can save the money and use it towards other things. Nike drifit clothing dries quickly over night or a couple days.

The review is here!
i got the Jokey GO Mesh Boxer Brief which were recommended and...

They almost address all the issues. in comparison to the cotton equivalent. They are:

+ lighter
+ more breathable
+ do not soak or become heavy
+ no sticking to skin
+ sufficient room for the pipino and his buddies
+ affordable (on sale)

there a couple of drawbacks both due to 90% polyester composition:

1- they tend to feel warm to hot instead of cool, so most likely they would be a better pair for the winter.

2- the polyester against the skin can be a little uncomfortable in comparison to cotton. i wish they were a little softer or had more spandex in them...or whatever would make them softer on the skin.

i also got the Euro Sport Microfiber Mesh No-Fly...and i have yet to try them on the courts...but they do seem like they are going to be a better choice. pending review!

Thanks you guys for the suggestion!

i use boxer swimsuits with mesh lining to practice in when it's really hot, so i don't wear any underware. at present using speedo brand, but have also used suits made of microfiber which drys very quickly and the material is very soft like cotton.
