IG Speed 300?

Im still undecided Jack :???:

I'll hit with a few of the top sticks on my list with some of my usual playing partners and see what they think. The BLX Blade 98 seemed to be a good all around stick, but it is a little stiff.

Im trying to narrow down this list :p

BLX Blade 98
IG Instinct MP
IG Speed MP 300
EXO3 Tour Team 100

I also really liked the Volkl x10, but I dont know if it will be good enough power-wise... Im not sure what it was strung at but if I can squeeze a bit more power out of it, it could make for an excellent racquet as well. Swung lighter than its specs and had a nice feel/balance to it.

Wow, the Blade has a high swingweight (335!).
Have you tied the X8? Lots of power and comfort too.
Did you have to add any lead to the Speed 300? I have one to string up and try, but it seems to be very light in stock form. Ditto for the IG Instict,
Could u compare the Instinct with the Speed? They seem very similar in specs.

Sorry, was editing my post above to add more... (check it out)

IDK what it was about the Blade98, but it just didnt feel as heavy as its SW said. I didnt know it was that heavy until I checked it after the fact. Surprised me too...I figured that would have felt like a brick for me since Im usually in the 320 range.

I hit the Speed 300 briefly weeks ago, and have demod alot since. Ive b een waiting for it to come back in to the local shop for a while so I can get a good comparison with the EXO3 Tour Team 100 and Instinct. It seeme dto me at the time to feel a bit heavier than the IG Instinct. The instinct definitely needs some lead, its just too light for me stock.
As for the comparison of the two, I find they play fairly similar too. Both have very good access to spin, lighter- yet very stable frames. Both feel very comfortable while hitting. I didnt have any increased soreness after using either despite what the TW reviews said. I loved the 300 for my 2HBH, I was ripping some nice shots with good control.

I'd really like to try that x8 since you're so high on it. Seems we gravitate to the same types of frames...

If you are looking for extra power, the X8 has it in spades. In fact, I am currently trying to hone in on a good string setup to cut out some of that power. It's a great frame if you prefer to hang at the baseline and just let em rip.

x8 Demo ordered... Lets see what this thing can do ;)

I think u will like it. I hope your demo comes with decent strings.

You never know...
Ive had pretty decent luck with that though through TW. Probably 70% come decently strung.
I also threw in there the x10 295 (again), PB10 295 and the Donnay XDual Core silver 99.

head racquets are NOT arm friendly at all. Head and Prince all feel very cheap. I'd suggest you try the Aero Storm by Babolat. similar specs to the blade 98 but a more open pattern as well as Babolat's Cortex System. You could also try the BLX Tour or 6.1 Team if you want something a little lighter or perhaps the BLX Tour Ltd. If you're using full poly I suggest you try a hybrid as well.

I'd have to disagree with the blanket statement. While *some* may feel cheap, the new IG Speed MP 300 certainly does not, nor does the EXO3 Tour Team. Now, I wasnt a fan of the IG Speed light or Speed Elite, both didnt feel good to me at all, but I dont think you can just make that broad of a statement about ALL of their racquets. ;)
Both the Head 300 and the IG Instinct havent left me sore, albeit with just a couple outings each. I havent tried the Aero Storm, and appreciate that recommendation. I did however hit with the Pure Storm GT this weekend and really liked that.

If you hit any head racquet in any full poly it's like a death sentence to your elbow. Hit any Head full poly side to side with a full poly Wilson or Babolat and you will see why Babolat (38%) and Wilson (36%) make up 74% of the market in the U.S. right now.

I thought that may be for a few different reasons...partly that the top pros the last couple years have been Federer (Wilson) and Nadal (Babolat)...
I suspect Heads share will increase if Novak continues a reign of success like the other two have.

Thanks for the answers.
Well on the Blade I use full multi setup and it was better for first few hours. But not now :( Problem is that I cant demo any of the rackets here so everytime I want to try something I have to borrow it from friends (but they all play with old models) or buy it and try it. And its quite expensive :) My wife plays with youtek Elite and I like it but its too light. As I liked the "soft" feel of ntour with stiff. 61 I thought IG 300 might be good for me.
I would say that I am somewhere between 3.5 and 4.0 (we dont have ratings here) and play with good serve from baseline, sometimes attacking the net. So I am looking for racket that is not so heavy and a bit forgiving...

I had thought the EXO3 white would suit me better when I tried it than it actually did. The Dunlop 500 and 500 tour both had alot of power and I just didnt like the feel/grip shape. The Speed MP300 was far better than those for my tastes.

Tell me what you though of the x8 and the Instinct...I assume this was the IG Instinct MP ?

Thanks

I expected that Prince exo3 white would be better but what I did not like was the feel but good backhand I would say.

Dunlop Bio 500 was for me totally dead with no feel, bad serve and backhand.

X8 was really heavy using on long term even if it only have 300g. IG 300 is much easy to move around the court. But in other way I would say the best all around racket from above listed.

IG Instinct MP was great feel but lack of weight and power.

I also switch to IG 300 between the game and using all the above racket I notice that it is really low powered frame. I wounder how would Babolat Pure Drive GT compare. Maybe tomorrow if I get it on test.

Im surprised you say the Instinct lacked power. I wonder what it was strung at/with? The one I am demoing has plenty of power. I agree its very light feeling due to the headlightness and low swingweight. With some lead tape added it could be quite good. The IG300 for me had plenty of power as well. It was strung with different mains/crosses at a low/mid tension though and that probably made a big difference. (For reference, it was strung with head sonic pro 16g at mid tension on mains and head fxp 16g on the crosses at mid tension). If you have the ability I suggest trying that combo as it was pretty darn good.

You may want to try the Pure Storm Team GT / Pure Storm GT. The team is a bit lighter and a little more powerful. Both have a thinner beam and are pretty comfortable.

18x20 and still comfortable? What about lower statich weight compare to IG300 and X8?

I guess it is again question how you string your racket.

They're actually both 16x20 so not bad at all. As for the static weight, PSTeamGT is 10.7 and SW 312, the PSGT is 11oz and SW 327 . The MP 300 may have a higher static weight (slightly) than the PSGT but its a significantly lower swing weight. When it comes to the PSTeamGT, swing weight is pretty close. The PS's are a little closer to even balance so they have a higher swing weight even though the static weight is lower.
That said, they are pretty comfortable (most would say the most comfy of the Babolat line). ;)

The X8 looks like it will feel a little heftier than these 3 based on the stats. But if I found the BLX Blade 98 ok, you never know

I liked the Radical MP but i didnt like the way it was strung when i demod it :(
It was too springy. You could tell its a quality frame though. It had a similar feel in balance to the blade 98 but lighter overall. I can see why its so popular.

You need something light and powerful. If the X8 is too heavy and the Speed 300 not powerful enough...all these racquets you are asking about are over your head. You need a tweener...light and powerful. Something like the Organix 6 or the IG Speed Elite or the Prince EXO TOur Team.

Don't try anything heavier than 11 oz or swingweight over 320 or low powered. The Radical MP won't work for you either. You have to realize what your limits are. Stay away from the "players" racquets for now.

I wasnt a fan of the Elite at all. I have used the Prince O3 Hybrid Hornet for a while though and that might be a good one to try out for him. Easy on the arm/elbow, versatile and pretty good across the board, good for medium strokes and power...
Best of all, you can get it on a great discount since they are an older model and on sale at TW :)
Two of my hitting partners have also used it and commented on how much they enjoyed hitting with it.

The Hybrid Hornet is a great tweener and would be a good suggestion I agree.
I think the Organix 6 would be perfect...light and powerful. Like a lighter, friendlier X8.

The only thing I'd be concerned about with the X6 is just how light it is. 10.2 strung with a 306SW is pretty light. :)

I hit with that IG Instinct again last night and Ive gotta say, that thing has plentttty of power. Cayzi must have run into a bad/old string job on it. Spec wise, I would think that should be a great frame for him...but the Hornet is defintely another I'd try.
Prince Hybrid Hornet MP
Head Size: 100 sq. in. / 645 sq. cm.
Length: 27 inches / 69 cm
Strung Weight: 10.6oz / 301g
Balance: 2pts Head Light
Swingweight: 320
Stiffness: 70
Beam Width: 23-25-22 mm Tapered Beam
Composition: Dynamic Braided Graphite / Titanium / Tungsten
Power Level: Medium
Swing Speed: Moderate-Fast
Grip Type: Duratac
String Pattern: 16x19

Stiffness seems high by the specs, but it hits solid yet very very comfortable. My playing partner has bad TE and has hit with my Hornet the last 2 matches and loves how comfortable it is.

Still no Instincts in your neck of the woods yet Jack?
You will definitely want some lead on it when you hit with it. It swings really light, but has a decent balance overall. Needs a bit more SW.

The demos should arrive to me tomorrow (x8, PB10 295, Donnay X-Orange and Donnay X-Dual Silver 99) and my Donnay X-P Dual should arrive today! :)

Should have some fun hitting over the next two weeks :)

Still waiting for my demo of the Instinct. Should come soon...I am next after it gets returned.

I am not sure Kayzi said the Instinct was low powered. I think he said the Speed 300 was? I have to agree to a certain extent about the 300. If you play it stock, that light frame doesn't generate a lot of power unless you really whip it through the air. I actually found the heavier 315 to give me more power, even though you would think it was the other way around. I prefer a long, smooth medium paced swing, so I need some of the racquet's mass to give me some power. That's why the X8 works well stock for me.

I will definitely try the Instict with about 10 extra grams added to it (4 at 3/9 and 6 on handle).

Im not a big hitter myself, but I guess the MP300 was just strung up at the right combo and tension for me  It had good power for me. Anyways, looking forward to your comments on the Instinct once it arrives.

So I purchased the IG SPEED 300 from TWE :)
I played with it yesterday and I must say, that I am amazed from this stick.
Compared to my K Blade 98 - it feels much lighter even though the weight should be the same. I had soooo much more control (which surprised me, because it is open 16x19 pattern), much more feel, played couple of crazy drop shots and tons of spin (stringed with Multifeel 1,30). I played some angles that I never did before and some of them surprised even myself :)
As I am intermediate player somewhere between 3.5 and 4.0 I must say, that it is perfect racket for me.
So thank you guys for your opinions which led to my new racket :)

I have a question I hope someone can answer.

Has anyone measured their IG 300 unstrung to confirm the weight?

Background: I just got back into tennis and decided to move up from my 285g 12-year-old racquet. I first found an almost new YTPP on craigslist for a great price so I picked it up. I was really struggling playing with a stick that much heavier. I loved the feel of the prestige though, but I began to consider something more mid-weight and found the IG 300.

I found a great deal on a new Speed IG 300. Had it strung up the same as the prestige pro and tested them back to back in order to decide which to keep. Initially I played much better with the IG 300 and thought was for me, but as I got used to the weight, I started hitting better with the Prestige Pro.

THE CATCH:
Recently, feeling that the racquet weights weren't as different as I expected them to feel, I got a digital scale and weighed them. Here is the set up of each and weight results:

IG 300:
Head leather grip (22g trimmed to fit, grip I removed was about 19-20g)
Same strings as Prestige Pro
Same dampener as Prestige Pro
= 330g

YT Prestige Pro:
Same leather grip as IG 300
Same strings
Same dampener
Tourna overgrip (+4-5g)
Little head protector tape (maybe 1g)
=341g

WITH the overgrip on the Prestige, it only weighs 11g more than the IG300. Without the overgrip, it would be pretty close to the TW listing of 335g strung, and only 5 grams more than my IG 300 with the exact same setup.

I also weighed the heads and handles of each racket and figured out that the YTPP head is only 2g heavier than the IG300 head, the rest of the weight difference is all closer to the handle (YTPP handle about 9-10g more than IG300).

So according to my measurements, my IG300 only weighs 5-6g less than my Prestige Pro (if I took the overgrip off the YTPP), and so it would should be about 320g unstrung.

Seems high to me, anyone else?

I'm going to cut the strings off to really get an accurate weight and also because I'm wondering if a 17g string will play better.

Let me know if anyone else has weighed their frames, or even what your racquet weigh with strings.

I have two IG Speed 300 and both weigh 304 grams unstrung without overgrip or anything else.

Thank you for the info! So, unless my strings weigh 26g, something seems weird about my racquet.

Just played 3 hours today and I think I've decided to sell my IG300. It still plays very nice and I do like the touch and control it has, but it just isn't really lighter than my YT Prestige Pro, and I really have come to like the amazingly solid feel of the Prestige Pro. I seem to tend to prefer stiffer racquets over flexy racquets, so I think this is why I'm leaning toward the feel of the YTPP. If I found one that weighed what I expected it to weigh and had a lighter and quicker swing to it, I might be more inclined to give it another look, because sometimes after playing 3-4 hours, I get a little lazy swinging the 12oz. YTPP.

I know it makes a while we have not talked in this thread...
I am playing with the Speed IG300 for almost one year now and I am still struggling a bit with the best string to tune with the stick.
I am currently using Head Intellitour sttring, which is the one I have already played for several years. Even though, it appears to me that as the head size is different from my old Dunlop 300, it does not work as well. I have tried to pump up the tension to get something less powerfull and to gain control, but it is still not that.
I wonder how the Technifibre NRG2 can react on this racquet or trying something radicaly different as the Pro Hurricane (not tour, I can't stand this string).
Any ideas on which string to use with? What are you playing with on this stick?

just switched to this racquet coming from my ever dependable Fischer Speed Mpro 98 SL, I keep buying newer model to replace my mpro but would still come back to it, now trying this YT Speed IG 300, stock form is light but as what the earlier posters here said is surprisingly stable, however since I was looking for heft and more penetrating shots, I still added 7 grams lead at the handle, 1.5 grams each at 2 and 10, 3 grams each at 3 and 9, unstrung wt is now 320 grams just like my Mpro.......it is a beast and very stable, needed to get used to it and retire my Mpro......

added a total of 16 grams in the handle, now 12.15oz, it is quite in there but would still need some time to adjust.......it is now very stable even against heavy hitters ranked ntrp 5.0...

Btw I think the Elite doesn't deliver like the IG300...

At least the IG300 when you get the bat speed up definitely delivers amazing spin and nasty accuracy.

The Elite lacks definition and feels vague and wavy - I just cannot really feel it there in my hand, v weird.
Hi I’m thinking of buying the ig 300. You can get them for $99 from racket guys. I want a flexible frame and the Wilson blade is a little to heavy for me. What strings to you like and tension . Thanks

Plays like a Gravity Pro 16x19 when weight is added. Great racquet.

now i'm really intrigued. how much weight are we talking? similar to gravity pro specs?

I added weight in the head (maybe 7.5g spread around the head at 12,2,3,4,8, and 9 o'clock), 10-11g at 7" above the butt cap, maybe 3g inside the butt cap, and two overgrips.

All together, it came to around 360g strung (which is exactly the weight of my modified Gravity Pros). I like my racquets heavier, but being 300g to start with allows one to make it anything they like.

How does it play in stock form. Is it stable or under powered . I cannot play with a racket that weighs over 300 grams

It was ok, but it has a lower TW, and the power potential at the top of the racquet is much lower than a Gravity Pro.

It's hard for me to answer as I can't play with racquets that are 300g (too light).
