A Pity Nadal Unlikely to play Top Class Attacking Players in His Career

Nadal is due to play Nicholas Mahut later today at the US Open. He's played serve and volleyers at Wimbledon or at least guys who've attacked him like Philipp Petzschner. He played Giles Muller this year at Wimbledon which he didn't enjoy.

I think it's a shame Nadal will not play a real top class serve and volleyer throughout his career. Someone who cannot just serve and volley of course, but can return serve well, can put pressure on him from the baseline and then close the net. Players like Sampras, Becker, Rafter, Krajicek spring to mind. It's a pity Nadal will not face players of this calibre of skill or that young payers are not coming through with this type of skill which would have added a different dimension to Nadal's matchups at the top level.

Your thoughts.

well, not just Nadal, EVERY player in the ATP has been facing fewer serve and volleyers, dunno why you're picking on him.

Serve and volley players is the style when they played with wooden racquets. If you want to see a great attacking and creative style you should come check my game. Most players don't like my game. :)

Title says top class........your name ends in ic, disqualifies you from knowing about being.

Not picking on Nadal. But Nadal is the one player who seems not to have any affinity for attacking players. For instance, Federer looked up to attacking players when growing up, and played quite a few of them on the tour before they retired. And based his initial grass game on some of these players.

Djokovic looked up to some of these guys as well. Nadal doesn't seem to have anything really positive to say about attacking players or attacking styles of play.

Nadal has high praises for Federer though. But yeah, he was not the type who enjoys S&V tennis it seems.

It would have been interesting if Nadal had played a Sampras, Becker or Edberg to see how he would have adapted to playing a different style. Isner was somewhat successful playing him at the French this year, almost defeating him and Isner served and volleyed a decent amount.

What does that mean? :?

He was being ironic when he said they were agressive, considering the video is between Monfils and Simons, and some of the rallies were like 50 shots or something. The opposite of trying to make something happen on a tennis court.

I might tell you when I've got 1000% proof you are Bernard Tomic, until then...

Right...

Pusher Roddick
Past-his-prime Nalbandian

Even worse for Nadal then.

Pusher Roddick >'d Nadal.

This in a year where he was at his supposed hard court "peak".
