Mike Bryan threatened an official.

He should be banned from competition. Ridiculously low fine. Like this means anything to a guy like this.

We need to draw the line somewhere. He and his entire family are an embarrassment to tennis. Disgraceful behavior.

Newsday (Long Island newspaper) reports the $10,000 fine to Bryan is the largest on-site fine that can be assessed. Newsday also notes that tournament officials didn't feel Serena's behavior merited a major fine as she used no profane language and there was no physical contact.

Seriously though, it makes complete sense to me that physical contact is regarded as being more severe than mere words.

Mike Bryan should be arrested!!! The Umpire should have pressed charges!!!

Clearly Mike is a dangerous, potentially murderous sociopath1!!!!

Oh wait...he's a tennis player.

nvrmind, fine him and move on.

Wow, the Americans are really taking tennis down a notch.

Fish calling Tsonga a "dumb @$$"
now B. Bryan

Who's coming next?

And all of this on 9/11.........in front of the children.

This just in, fine reduced as Mike Bryan is a close friend of Serena's. The USTA will release a statement of apology for the oversite of their friendship, and impropoper delegation of fine.

I'm not saying perspective isn't often based on fabrication, I'm saying the truth is based on facts. Where are the facts? Some chubs blog? I am also saying trolling is based on smiles.

Whatever Mike Bryan did to get fined that amount is fine because he and his brother are better athletes and more compassionate individuals then Serena will ever be. Bryan shouldn't have been fined, what he did was minor compared to what Serena did, look we are talking about the differences between Serena and the Bryan Brothers, that's a huge difference. The Bryan Brothers have contributed so much more to the United States then Serena. I mean Serena berated an umpire which is illegal under the US constitution and what Bryan did was practically nothing and he received a higher fine, that doesn't make any sense whatsoever.

I don't really understand what you're saying here, but there are some media reports about Bryan's fine if you look. Here's one:

Men's doubles player Mike Bryan was fined $10,000 for an "off-court" incident after he and brother Bob Bryan lost in the first round. Because Mike Bryan can still appeal the fine, a U.S. Open official said, the nature of the offense would not be disclosed.

Are the Americans all just so spoiled that they have to act this way when things dont go exactly their way? Roddick seems to do somehting like this every dang match now.

Are people really comparing a physical altercation to verbal abuse? Easy to pick out the career trolls in this thread.

I guess Mike only knows how to put away lobs, and not hit lob shots.

Compassion led Serena to build schools in Africa.

There is nothing on the subject other than that. Doesn't list the offense. Some guys blogs say different things about it, from a bump to just placing his hand on an official. It's hard to make a justified decision without knowing any of the facts, and that is what seems to be missing. I've looked. If you would like to entertain us with evidence of what happened, it would be delighting.

I don't understand that logic. To me threatening an official (don't look at me or else...) is worse than just swearing or cursing. It should be:
- foul language: mild punishment
- verbal threat (whatever language is used): worse
- physical threat: the worst.
